    Are you considering enrolling in our MSc programme?Let us explain why this is the right choice, bothprofessionally and personally. Our programme is aunique initiative in Central and Eastern Europe: it

    offers basic knowledge similar to that in programmesin Western Europe, but in addition it also preparesstudents to apply their knowledge and specicanalytical skills in the context of middle-incomecountries.

    The Specialization in Health Economics, launched inEnglish, offers multi-disciplinary expertise and a problem-oriented approach. Such knowledge and skills will remainrelevant in the long run and help graduates understandand analyse key issues of future health systems, such as:efficiency of health technologies, sustainability of healthnancing, and techniques to measure and inuence theperformance of health care systems.

    Our programme prepares students for career positions inboth the private and public sectors. This includes healthcare governance and nancing at national and local levelsand careers at pharmaceuticals companies, public andprivate health care providers, as well as education andresearch institutions.

    The Master Programme enables graduates to understandthe complexities of health care systems both at macroand micro levels and to perform tasks in analysis, planning,

    nancing and management of health technologies, healthcare services and health systems.

    We expect applicants from foreign countries whowould like to acquire state-of-the-art knowledgeand skills in the areas mentioned above witha special focus on applicability in emerging

    markets. Foreign students studying at Hungarian medical

    universities may choose to combine theirmedical degree with the degree offered by ourprogramme.

    A master degree in English can also be anattractive option for Hungarian students, givenincreasing international co-operation in severalareas of health care.

    The MSc programme offers a specialization inhealtheconomics in a full-time schedule.

    m e Thebasic courses module (28 credits) offers the basics

    of multi-disciplinary orientation and comparativeanalyses of health care systems. Included are courses on

    health economics; health policy; health law and ethics;epidemiology, public health, etc.

    Theprofessional core material (32 credits) includesmaterial on the analysis of health care systems,institutions, services and technologies, including thedevelopment of alternatives in decision-making. Included

    are courses on health economic evaluations; healthnancing; health services organisation; health informatics;statistical methods in health care analyses, etc.

    Thespecialization in health economics covers the mostimportant international sources of knowledge, while alsopreparing students to execute practical applications. Thestudents individual professional programme also playsa vital role, which is realized in the form of the thesisseminar and internship. Thecompulsory courses are:methodology of economic modelling in health care;measurement of patient-reported outcomes; nancingof health technologies; health technology assessment;strategic pricing and marketing of health technologies;thesis seminar. Students have to select 3elective courses which can be any courses offered at ELTE in any MA/MScprogramme.

    Internship The MSc internship gives the students the opportunityto apply the concepts and technical skills they have

    mastered during the rst two semesters:

    The duration of the internship is 160 hours. It can be completed in pharmaceutical

    companies, government agencies, health careorganisations, consulting companies, commercialinsurance companies and research institutions.

    Students have to prepare an internship report.

    Our faculty members have an exceptional combination ofinternational work experience at multinational public andprivate organizations (e.g., the OECD, Novartis in Basel,

    University of Sheffield, Erasmus University, etc.), researchand teaching both abroad and in Hungary. Our facultymembers serve as policy advisors to global health carecorporations, public decision-makers and internationalprofessional societies (e.g., International Society ofPharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research).

    The MSc programme also benets from the experiencesof the members of our International Advisory Board. Ourinternational exposure guarantees the transferability ofknowledge and skills learned here to different health caresystems and technologies.

    The International Advisory Board was set up in 2010 withthe purpose of helping the DHPE to meet internationalstandards in its programmes and extend its international

    Etvs Lornd University (ELTE)is one of the largestuniversities in Hungary and a true centre of modernhigher education in todays sense. It has eight faculties
