Lean provides tools to remove waste and variability which in turn reduce Lead Times. 

• Lead Time: Time to complete a product or service from start to finish.  

• Cycle Time: Time to perform elements within a single step of process. 

• Total Process Cycle Time:  Sum of all cycle times, which equals Lead Time.

– Graphical, brainstorming method to identify, logically group and sub‐divide potential root causes of a problem

– “Spine” of the fishbone should be the process problem  or key metric (Project Y).
