Many dogs can fetch a ball in their teeth, but only one dog can stand on its head and read e-mails at the same time. The dog’s name is RoboDog.

RoboDog is the largest and most advanced robot pet. It is 80 cm long, 65 cm tall, and 35 cm wide-about the same size as a Labrador-and weighs more than 12 kilos. The British designers say that RoboDog is more sophisticated than a similar robot dog in Japan.

Inside the electronic pet there are sixteen motors, a computer, a video camera, which is the dog’s ‘eye’. RoboDog can chase balls, climb stairs, wag its tail, and lie down like a real dog. It can also wave and shake its owner’s hand. RoboDog’s battery lasts 90 minutes and then it goes to sleep.

RoboDog is a brilliant home watchdog. It uses its computer to connect to the internet so that you can operate it from a computer anywhere in the world. If you are out of the house, you can use a mouse to move RoboDog round your home. The video camera inside the dog can show you if everything is alright. It can also connect to your e-mail, read any messages and then speak them.

RoboDog costs £20,000 so it’s not the cheapest pet around, but it’s certainly one of the easiest to look after. It doesn’t need food or water and you don’t need to take it out for a walk.
