MCI Transition Project

• Issue - Every site assigns a Honeywell number to COTS materials. Same material used at many sites, with different Honeywell numbers, but same level of control

• Objective

–Expand and utilize existing web-based tool (Material Code Index) to consolidate material part numbers for the same materials.

–Drive use of a common Honeywell material P/N with industry control.

–One MPE Tool that suppliers can use to find Honeywell Approved Material.

Honeywell Internal

Material Code Index Description

Honeywell Internal3

Material Code Index (MCI) – Is a web based listing that provides detailed material and sundry descriptions, specifications, suppliers, and material code numbers/Honeywell part numbers assigned to specific items which are used in the build and support of Honeywell products.

• Albuquerque, Deer Valley, Glendale and Urbana heritage users

• Olathe, Redmond and Clearwater information added to the MCI in 2016– Training early 2017

– Removal of information from heritage databases mid-2017 (AMPL ‘Materials’ and ‘Chemicals’ for Redmond & Olathe)

MCI Transition Scope

• Materials to be added to MCI:– Sundry items, bulk materials & consumables

♦ Used in the products/parts Honeywell produces

♦ the material should be called out on the EBOM (engr. bill of material) as a part number

♦ Procured from a supplier and may be applied by a process spec

• These items are materials which:– Are consumed / used up (not returned) after issuance from

stores,

– Become incorporated into other goods and lose their identity, or

– Cannot be used for their intended purpose without extinguishing or transforming their substance.

Honeywell Internal4

MCI Transition Scope

• Examples of Materials to be included in MCI

– Weld Wire

– Paints, inks, adhesives, epoxy and lubricants

– Solder used in a printed board assembly (PBA)

– Conformal coating material used to protect the PBA

– Powders

– Elastomer materials

– Specialty non-metallic materials

– Any material where an approved product list or qualified product list is used to identify approved manufacturers & products

Honeywell Internal5

MCI Tool Provides a QPL/APL Database of Approved Products & Material Manufacturers

Project Benefit

• Single location for all Honeywell material information that can be accessed by Honeywell and its suppliers

• Paves way for consolidation of multiple material callouts into one Honeywell Aerospace material part number

• Approved manufacturer located in one place in tool and approved by site Engineering rep

• Simple way to search based on supplier, material part number, category etc.–GIDEPs, Industry Alerts, customer requests, etc

–Used by Design to find part numbers for existing materials

Honeywell Internal

Project Plan – Phase 1

1. Collect site material data from existing systems (AMPL, SAP, PDM, ECT tool)

2. Format data to fit MCI fields

3. Review data file with site contacts

4. Load data into vault in quality version of MCI and test

5. If test OK, release site vault/data into production version of MCI

6. Train site personnel/suppliers on MCI

7. Obsolete data in heritage databases

Sites loaded in 2016 (green) – Redmond Commercial and Defense, Olathe, Clearwater

Sites planned for 2017 – Phoenix, Tempe, Torrance, Tucson, Toronto, Minn

Honeywell Internal

Project Plan – Phase 2

• Deploy Aero Material Part numbers–Develop process to consolidate to an Aero number

–ID common materials w/same requirements

–Release 1st Aero material/part number

–Consolidate common materials to 1st Aero number

• Initial focus will be on:– COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) materials with little/no requirements

–Materials where a gov’t or industry spec is used, but approved product listing is required

MCI Access and Export Control

• All Honeywell suppliers have access to the MCI through HASP

• Also provides a Honeywell site MPE contact in the event there are questions with a material callout

• Material information contained in the MCI is not export controlled.

• MCI does not link material to using product

• MCI does not contain chemistry of materials or technical data

Honeywell Internal

Control of Data in MCI

• MCI procedure loaded into Stages

• Changes–Site PNs

♦Anyone from site can request a change, but must go through the site MPE rep

♦Only the site MPE rep can update information in the MCI

♦Changes to follow site CM guidelines/supersedure guidelines

–AERO level material part numbers

♦Anyone can request a change

♦Require approval from all using sites’ reps

♦Follow AERO ECO/ECR processes

MCI Data Fields

• Existing site data formatted to fit into the following MCI fields:–Part Number (Material Code Number)–Size (as required)–Purchase As (Consolidation of Product Name, Description and Controlling Spec)

–Approved Manufacturer–Product Name–Approved Supplier (Distributor/Repackager)–Controlling Spec (Honeywell or Industry)–Processing/Manufacturing Spec–Category/Family–Description (for example – 6061-T6)–Notes–Material Type (example – Aluminum Alloy)–Change Date–Site Vault

Items Listed in MCI

• Materials Used on Honeywell Products or Critical Sundries–Non-Metallics (including but not limited to)

♦ Chemicals♦ Adhesives♦ Tapes♦ Coatings♦ Paints♦ Sealants♦ Wire/Cable♦ Plastics/Rubbers/O-Rings

–Metals♦ Aluminums♦ Steels♦ Titaniums♦ Etc

Duplicate Material Code Entries

Honeywell Internal27

Due to the current configuration of the MCI database, entries with the same Material Code Number, but different Purchase As information will be displayed with an (X), (Y), (Z)… etc. suffix.

This suffix is simply a requirement of the database and should not have any bearing on material selection or preference. Each number identified by the same material number should be considered interchangeable regardless of suffix.

This suffix also should not be identified in a drawing. Only the base material code number should be used.

Latest News

Honeywell Internal28

The latest news page will show you a list of the most recent updates made to the MCI database and will list any updates made to the web page below.

Contacts

Honeywell Internal29

Site contacts are listed for each site that uses the MCI.

Updates

Honeywell Internal30

All updates to be made to the MCI must go through Site MPE personnel.

Each site may maintain their update approval process, however the MCN issuance procedure (link located in the Reference section) must be followed.

The update form is also located in the Reference section.

Conclusion

• This is initial training on basics of MCI for key personnel at Redmond, Olathe, Clearwater

• After training, please log into the tool and explore, pull up PNs, etc

• Share information on MCI, how its used, etc to others at the site and outside suppliers as needed

• We will be working closely with POCs at site to sunset material information in heritage databases.

• Questions, please contact Tom Lowther or Kathy Reeves
