The vitamin E profile following the E1 retrieval after twelve months of implantation shows no decrease in vitamin E content at the surfaces of the rim or at the articular surface.

The carbonyl profile shows lipid absorption to a depth of 0.5 mm below the articular surface and no measurable oxidation in the E1 acetabular liner after twelve months of in vivo service.
