Feds Seek Warrant to Conduct Poultry Plant Safety

Mar-Jac’s Poultry in Gainesville is coming under federal scrutiny after allegedly not-cooperating

with Material Safety data sheet osha staff after a nearly-fatal electrical accident. According to the

warrant request filed by OSHA, Mac-Jar refused to allow OSHA investigators anywhere beyond

the area where the accident occurred. This, combined with past safety violations, has prompted

OSHA to file for a warrant to inspect the Gainesville plant for common poultry processing

hazards. According to OSHA, poultry workers nationwide face a number of workplace hazards,

including exposure to dangerous equipment, infectious pathogens, and hazardous chemicals, and

according to the warrant request, OSHA was able to to see a number of these violations from

their brief visit, even without being allowed to enter other parts of the facility.
