Laser material Plastic materials with an acrylic core can be worked with the laser. Many metals can also be marked with the laser but cannot be cut.

Exterior use This material is UV-resistant and suitable for outdoor use. Of course, it can also be used for indoor applications.

Engraving materials This material (usually with ABS core) is suitable for use with me-chanical engraving devices.

Indoor use This material is not suitable for long-term, unprotected use in outdoor areas (UV exposure may cause discolouration).

Reverse engraving This material is engraved from the back using mirrored graphics. Afterwards, the en-graving can be inlaid with colour or backlit, so that the engraved image is visible from the front.

TroLase is an UV-resistant acrylic based laminate for both indoor and outdoor applications. The thin top layer makes detailed engraving possible at high production speeds. Processing creates less residue than with other materials, which reduces the need for cleaning and minimizes processing times.

TroLase Reverse consists of transparent acrylic with a coloured coating on the back. By mirror engraving the image into the back, the coloured layer is removed during the engraving process and the material becomes transparent in these places. By using acrylic paint to inlay the engraved back, a coloured engraving is created. The smooth surface allows for easy cleaning.

LaserFlex is a transfer film for customizing textiles. The laser can reproduce even the finest details with intricate designs. Once the artwork has been engraved or cut out on the laser unit, the design is applied to the textiles using a transfer press. LaserFlex is characterized by good opacity and high elasticity.

Order TroLase ADA Signage with self-adhesive film applied to the back. This allows you to easily mount letters cut-out from the material plate on base plates or walls. During assembly use the cut material plate as a tem-plate for spacing and as a line level. A few tips for best results: - Materials must be even and without bends or distortions. - A cutting grate should always be used when cutting plastics, in order to lift the material. - Remove the protective film, in order to prevent discolouration or excessive smoke. - If excess smoke results, then too much energy is being used. In this case increase the speed.

Laser Marking Compounds

These compounds can be used to allow easier marking and higher contrast marks with a CO2 laser. The metal marking compounds produce permanent black markings, which are highly resistant to mechanical and chemical stresses as well as high temperatures. Laser Marking Compounds are available as a paste, spray or tape. The most convenient method is to apply it using a spray can. Brush application is appropriate whenever the entire surface can be coated with a single brush stroke. Spraying the paste, e.g. using an airbrush, is suitable for coating larger areas in a single step. The tape, however, is a particularly clean solution for smaller areas. The plastic marking compound allows for black marks on thermoplastics, while the compounds for ceramics and glass produce coloured marks on these materials (YAG or Fiber laser recommended).

A cutter-beveler has a parallel cutting edge which profiles or cuts through the material, while the angle edge produces a 45 bevel for a depth of 1/3 to 1/2 of the material thickness. Beveling is the process of creating a sloped edge on a plate, most often through the use of a 30° or 45° cutter and a beveling machine. A cutter with a 45° cutting angle is the most popular choice because it creates a more pronounced cut by exposing more of the core material.

These cutters have been designed using end mill and router bit technology to produce a tool that offers cleaner, faster cuts in a variety of materials at the high spindle speeds typically associated with engraving machines and routers.

Diamond Tools

Diamond is the hardest substance known and the most resistant to abrasion. The unique geometry of the diamond engraving tool, with its highly polished surface, provides the brilliantly reflective lines of top quality engraving. The point of the drag engraver and cutting edge of the diamond burnisher are sharpened to micro-precision tolerances that simply last and last.

Letter Height Recommended Stroke Widths

1/16 3/32

The chart below displays the most commonly used letter height/tip width combinations for single line fonts. When engraving single stroke characters, we recommend that the width of the cut be approxi-mately 12% of the letter height to achieve proportional letters. For example: engraving a 1/2” (0.5”) let-ter, the stroke should be 0.06” (0.5” x 12% = 0.06). Cutters and burnishers are available in any required tip size ranging from a point (0.000”) up to the full shank diameter. Maximum stroke width of 1/8” cutter is 0.125”; 11/64” cutter is 0.171”; 1/4” cutter is 0.25”.

Tru-Square - When material is cut on a shear, it can creep or move from the cutting force of the shear. A Tru-Square helps prevent this. When installed, it forms a right angle with the ruler and is parallel to the blades. As the material is cut, the cutting force pushes it into the Tru-Square. The material can’t move, and creep is eliminated. The Tru-Square also serves as a front gauge and is an invaluable aide for making accurate, repetitive plaques (Note: With the new Step Ruler, only the Tru-Square Guide is required!)

The Maxi-Press is designed for versatile uses, including hole punching, notching, and rounding nameplates. It can produce notched corners, rounded corners, a centre hole punch, and a combination punch and notch. The Cornermate® Series is the new standard for cutting corners, holes and slots in plaques, badges, signs, and other items. There are over thirty inter-changeable cutting units from 1/8” to 1”. All units are precision engineered, and will produce flat, crisp shapes in photographic paper, laminations, mag-netics, flexible plastic, aluminum, brass, and many other material. Each cutting unit has the material guides machined into the body of the unit so the location of the cut is always the same. Insert the material, and squeeze the handle. It’s that simple and quick! Self-adhesive film Application of a double-sided adhe-sive film to the back of the material plates.

Bevelling Beveled edges with an angle of 45° (rounded corners at an additional charge).

Longitudinal and trans-verse brush strokes The orientation of the brush strokes can be selected at the time of cutting.
