Ou r Vision Statem ent We are committed to helping children learn to enjoy and excel in mathematics.

Our goal is to give children a strong fundamental basis in mathematics and

help them reach their full potential.

The Math Monkey Curriculum aims to open a childs mind to the natural order

of the surrounding environment, leading the child to not only appreciate math,

but also want to continue investigating its many wondrous uses.

We move away from the conventional "drilling" method of teaching math and

to instill the love of math in children, who will lead the next generation in

technological advances and the practical integration of that technology.

We teach more than just math. Our competitive games sessions encourage

children to think on their feet and nurture mental agility, creativeness,

    independence and sportsmanship in them.

The classroom approach used to teach the Math

Monkey Vedic Math curriculum is similar to

    the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME)

    philosophy developed by the Freudenthal

Institute in The Netherlands. This philosophy

stresses the idea of mathematics as a human

activity, meaning the focal point should be on the

process of "mathematization" rather than as a subjectto be transmitted.

Based on the philosophy that FUN is the key to learning, MathMonkey is an age appropriate, game based curriculum of mental

gymnastics. At Math Monkey Knowledge Centers, math is a humanactivity. The focal point of the Math Monkey curriculum is on theprocess of doing math. Weekly, Math Monkey students playgames to solve math problems, which integrate the concept ofVedic Maths. They are encouraged to think on their feet inorder to play the games. Through the games, the childrensmath skills, as well as their own mental agility improve.

The Math Monkey Curriculum is the culmination of Professor KennethWilliams 36 years of research and teaching experience in the field of VedicMath. Widely regarded as the "guru" of Vedic Math, Professor Williamsbelieves that children shouldn't have to rely on a calculator or pencil andpaper for something the mind is capable of doing without them.

There are three components to the Math Monkey program that create excited, engaged children, as well as nurture disciplined minds capable of using math asa second language, and applying that discipline to other academics for a lifetime:

    1. The first component - and the guiding force in Math Monkey classes - is theuse of games, which integrate the concepts of Mental (Vedic) Math. Childrenare encouraged to think on their feet in order to play the games at hand.As a result, learning occurs and math skills are greatly enhanced.

    2. The second component to Math Monkey classes is the honing of concentra-tion and memory skills. Classes are conducted primarily without the use ofpencil and paper and the children participating are continuously encouragedto hold the numbers in their mind, in order to build their mental math skills.

    3. The third component is the continued learning encouraged at home. Studentsreceive a weekly assignment to be completed at home between classes. Thisallows practice between sessions, as well as provides the teacher with feed-back on the students retention and progress .

Ve d ic M a th= M en ta l M a thWidely known as the fastest speed math in the world. The collective name given to a set of 16 fo rm u la swhich givesstudents numerous ways to work out a math problem easily, mentally and quickly and therefore building concentration andvisualization skills.

Consists of formulas that gives a one line answer to every

mathematical sum, encouraging fun and innovation among itsstudents and enabling the mind to solve mathematical problemsfrom arithmetic to algebra, trigonometry to geometry to calculusand beyond.

The simplicity of the formulas allows even the weakest student tounderstand and excel in math. Mathematics becomes a subjectevery student can master.

By learning Vedic math, children develop increased "Math IQ" withan understanding of the relationship between numbers, creating alife long foundation in Math.

Jettefits of M etttal M athThrough mental work, students progress faster in terms of mentalagility, capacity to hold ideas in the mind and to remember pastimpressions.

students develop flexibility in their methods of tackling problemsincluding evolving their own strategies to meet new challenges.

The mental development encouraged by mental math helpsconsiderably in other academic areas as well as personal

    growth and sel f-esteem.

    L e t l t u r f r o op (6 -7 y ea rs o ld )_This group will be challenged to build their mathematical literacy

using mental workouts designed to improve concentration and begindeveloping the logical thinking necessary for advanced mathematics.

The children are shown the basics including number recognition,

order and sequencing, greater than and less than, addition,

subtraction, number skipping (an early base for multiplication),

money, shapes, time and properties of basic numbers in mental math.

    ~ t ib b o n s f r o o p (8 -9 y e a r s o ld )~ This intermediate group will be introduced to the many facets of

multiplication with repeated addition, doubling, skip counting and

nikhilam multiplication. The tedious task of memorizing times tables

will be dispensed with. They will also tackle more complex time and

money questions and word problem techniques. Vedic Techniques are

in metric calculations and children are taught math skills

This youngest group of children will be engaged in the art of

math, keeping them active and giving them a head start in number

(and music) sense, reasoning and critical thinking. The first

impression of Math = Fun is created.

    C h i t l tp an ze e f r o op (7 -8 y ea rs o ld )This group will be challenged to think mathematically and build

logical and critical thinking skills using a carefully designed series of

games and mental exercises. Children will become efficient in the

early math skills needed to advance later. They will be learning to

perform addition and subtraction mentally and will further learn to

add and subtract larger scale numbers with ease. They will learn

more about time and money and basic skills

    for providing change.

    O r a t lg u ta t l f r o o p (9 ..1 0 y e a rs o ld )This group will continue to build on their mental agility through the uniquely

designed Math Monkey games and activities. Children will focus on mental

techniques for speed and accuracy. Orangutans are provided with a wonderful

foundation for multiplication and division. Each child is led to understand the

concept of multiplication inside and out using hands on tools and concepts.

Then we provide our children with the Vedic short cuts that make even

multiplication of double digits numbers a breeze. Simple concepts of fractions

will be introduced, preparing them for more complex formulas later.

~ Jaboon froopIt 0-11 years o ldlThe building blocks for more advanced math are piling up as students in

this group begin to explore higher-order thinking in concert with theirmath instruction. Children will learn techniques for extending their basic

skills including mental techniques for speed and accuracy. Baboons learn

to tackle multiplication and division problems mentally and with ease. They

also cover word problems and are led to build a strong foundation in the

    topic of fractions and division.

O -o r i l la f ro o pn 1..1 2 y ea rs o ld )The experienced Math Monkeys in this group will continue to experience

the hands-on/minds-on activity based learning found at Math Monkey.

Through both inquiry and modeling, children will get to experiment with

more advanced math concepts. More advanced methods are multiplication

and division enables students to continue honing the basic skills needed tosucceed in intermediate and advanced mathematics. Vedic formulas areexr5lnl:ed in depth.
