Finding ‘x’

Solve for x.

15x + 12 = 25x - 8

Solve for x.

15x + 12 = 25x - 8 -25x -25x

-10x + 12 = -8 -12 -12

-10x = -20 -10 -10

x = 2

Solve for x.

8(x + 20) + x = 187

Solve for x.

8(x + 20) + x = 187

-160 -160

8x + 160 + x = 187 9x + 160 = 187

9x = 27 9 9

x = 3

Solve for x.

21x - 8 = 8x + p

Solve for x.

21x - 8 = 8x + p -8x -8x

13x - 8 = p +8 +8

13x = p + 8 13 13

x = p + 8 13

Solve for y.

5x - y + 7 = 12x + 3

Solve for y.

5x - y + 7 = 12x + 3 +y +y

5x + 7 = 12x + 3 + y -12x -12x

-7x + 7 = 3 + y -3 -3

-7x + 4 = y y = -7x + 4

Solve for y.

2x + y + 1 = 8x + 5

Solve for y.

2x + y + 1 = 8x + 5 -2x -2x

y + 1 = 6x + 5 -1 -1

y = 6x + 4
