Every school district in the Commonwealth of Kentucky has a knowledgeable and cohesive leadership teamleadership team that guides the professional learning and practice of all administrators, teachers, and staff so that every student experiences highly effective teaching, highly effective teaching,

learning and assessment practices learning and assessment practices in every classroom, every day.

All participants will understand how to translate Kentucky’s Core Academic Standards into clear learning targets in order to design high quality formative and summative assessments and to plan/select rigorous and congruent learning experiences.

Looking at Appendix A Modeling, websites, finding out what other

schools are doing 7 strategies” graphic organizer. Many ideas for implementing targets;

student self-assessment Thanks for releasing for the tornado!!

Page 16: Math Teacher Leadership Network

Please number the pages on the powerpoint slides.

More time discussing standards and less of the ‘fluffy stuff’.

Model the strategies you would hope would be used in a classroom.

Move at faster pace! Move at slower pace! Nothing…just a lot of info! Less information/more depth…

Page 17: Math Teacher Leadership Network

More progressions of standards. We need resources to find rich tasks. More information about the End of Course

Assessment! How do we promote buy-in to standards

and not programs being pushed at the district level.

None. Looking forward to next meeting! Thank you!

Page 18: Math Teacher Leadership Network
Page 19: Math Teacher Leadership Network

Discussion of Formative Assessment Lessons Rich, engaging tasks—thank you! Break out time in grade level groups. Learning effective questioning techniques. Good Questions Book! Sharing and discussing the Van de Walle book. Love the break out groups/need more time in

breakouts!

Page 20: Math Teacher Leadership Network

Looking at examples of student work and figuring out questions to ask to move the student forward.

Task Analysis activity Loved the break out activities. Standards Based Grading and Reporting

info Task Sort and Vignettes activity Love the Formative Assessment Lessons

Page 21: Math Teacher Leadership Network

I love the 75 Formative Assessments Book.Analyzing formative assessment lessonsI enjoyed the activity with the cards in creating a FAL-like experience using the standards and other resources.Sharing activities during breakout time.

Page 22: Math Teacher Leadership Network

I don’t know how to share this info with teachers in my building. We don’t have time together.

We need info about teaching congruence and similarity through transformations.

Need a space to share lesson plans, assessments, activities and resources

We need more websites to get resources.

Page 23: Math Teacher Leadership Network
Page 24: Math Teacher Leadership Network

oDoing the FAL with my students

oUsing the Danielson Framework and CHETL

oBetween conversing with other teachers and going over the framework, I have acquired some new ideas and strategies for myself in the classroom and to share with others.

Page 25: Math Teacher Leadership Network

o How to continue to working on the types of questions to be asking in class.

o I have learned to look for evidence of student learning.

o Hunger Games FAL like task was GREAT!

o Definitely have a strategy now and plan in place for the refinement of aligning assessments to standards. Also, great dialog on FAL analysis/implementation.

o Analyzing student work from the FAL with my colleagues.

Page 26: Math Teacher Leadership Network

Anticipating student misconceptions and really focusing on engineering classroom discussions are strategies I will use to improve planning and instruction.

The formative assessment lessons are great and having that many activities and tasks ready for use is wonderful. Getting my teachers to implement these will require a little work because they do take time, but I think they will be very helpful in getting students to grow.

The transformations activities from the website.

Learning more about CIITS in breakout.

Page 27: Math Teacher Leadership Network

Listening to other teachers describe the results of their Formative Assessment Lessons was helpful.

I enjoyed seeing the growth from pre to post assessment on FAL.

In working through my own FALs and discussing with my peers I can change what I did wrong for next time.

It is okay to fail but you must have perseverance. Compliance is not engagement.

Growth Mind Set information was really interesting.

Page 28: Math Teacher Leadership Network

Every time we meet and discuss with colleagues I gain a better understanding of the standards. Being able to learn new ways to implement these standards is very valuable.

The videos that were shared were inspirational and serve as a reminder of what we, as teachers, must be willing to do if we truly have the best interest of our students at heart!

The discussion and videos shared today.

Page 29: Math Teacher Leadership Network

Every time we look at new resources and have discussion, I feel that I become a better teacher. Just have to maintain the focus between meetings and not slip into old ways!

We extended Standards based grading practices--and even just toxic grading practices that we find ourselves doing and what we can do to improve on that. Grading needs to have more of a meaning.

Page 30: Math Teacher Leadership Network

I now have a new understanding of the importance of "failure". As educators and instructional leaders it is vital that we share with our teachers and students "how" learning takes place in each of our lives. Many times we learn through trying and failing and trying again. I loved the quote...."If you are not failing you are not trying hard enough."

Page 31: Math Teacher Leadership Network

I think my favorite part was the three part Derek Sivers video, Why You Need to Fail. Watching the video in three parts and incorporating the TPGES 2b and 3c was extremely helpful.

I can reflect and share my experiences with the Mathematics Teacher Leadership Network.

I can make connections between the four pillars of the teacher leader networks and the Teacher Professional Growth & Effectiveness Framework.

34Kentucky Department of Education

Leadership Networks

Page 35: Math Teacher Leadership Network

I can summarize the rationale for administering a student perception survey.

I can explain how student perception survey data can be used to broaden my understanding of my effectiveness as a teacher to improve teaching and learning.

I can connect professional learning teams with teacher effectiveness framework.

Groups of 2-3 will get a word or phrase from one of the four pillars and work collaboratively to come up with 4 images that match the word. Every image has something in common with the word.

Charts will be displayed around the room and the audience will guess a word that matches the set of pictures.

What can we learn from listening to student perceptions of classrooms?1.Any person begins the discussion by putting a pen in the middle of the table.2.Any person with a pen continues discussion using his pen.3.When all pens are used, teammates each collect their pens and continue the discussion using their talking pens.Kentucky Department of Education
