!!INTRODUCTION!! ! ! Statistics is a mathematical science which involves the collection, analysis and interpretation of data. Statistical analysis helps to understand some process and possibly to make some predictions based on the understanding. !! For this assignment, assuming that Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (Malaysian Health Ministry) engage us to conduct a survey. We were needed to study the understanding level of between female/male young adult aged 21 to 25 and aged 26 to 30 on one of the cronic diseases in Malaysia. In a group of five members, Loh Wei Shuen, Roy Yiek, Chan Yi Qin, Chong Yi Qi and I, Sherlyn Ang. We intend to do a survey based on the understanding level of females young adult aged 21 to 25 and adults aged 26 to 30 on breast cancer, which it is now represents 1 in 4 of all cancers in women in Malaysia! ! ! Breast cancer was the commonest overall cancer as well as the commonest cancer in women amongst all races from the age of 20 years in Malaysia for 2003 to 2007. Estimates by the International Agency for Research in Cancers (Globocan 2012) reported that in 2012, there were 5410 cases reported and 2572 deaths from breast cancer in Malaysia. This is a very significant rise in cases compared to the Globocan 2000 report where there were 3825 new cases and 1707 deaths from breast cancer in Malaysia. The ASR per 100,000 population of breast cancer was 38.7 in the Globocan 2012 report. !! Through this survey, we are able to identify the understanding level of females in Malaysia on breast cancer according to different age groups. It successfully creates awareness among them and highlighted that we should take this issue seriously and must be aware of it. !!!!!

OBJECTIVE!! ! This assignment give us the opportunity to explore ways of collecting data and different types of organisation that we can use in statistical data. In addition, it enables us to apply the knowledge gained to analyse statistical data and draw conclusion from the data. The aim of this survey is to let us analyse and solve problems that involves various mathematical principles. For instance, we apply mathematical principles in Statistics like mean, frequency, median and etc. to get a more accurate results throughout this entire survey. ! Furthermore, we get to identify the understanding level of female in Malaysia on the cause and effect of breast cancer and some other questions that related to this issue. Moreover, this assignment allows us to collect, organise, present and draw conclusion for simple statistical data. It enhances our communication skills as well. We develop this skills by distributing survey forms for others to fill. It also allows us to understand more about the knowledge of breast cancer. Most importantly, we choose to do survey on breast cancer as it is one of the commonest cancers in our country, Malaysia. Most importantly, we hope that we can create awareness among people towards breast cancer in Malaysia through this survey.!

METHODOLOGY! We carried out questionnaire survey from 8th of November 2014 to 12th of

November 2014. The questionnaire were distributed to a total of 250 students. 173 of them were having the online questionnaire while the other 77 of them did on a hard copy questionnaire. The questionnaires were distributed all around Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus. For instance, we distributed those questionnaires in front of the library, Student Life Centre, and Block D.!

SURVEY FORM !(Hardcopy)!

Survey Introduction You are being asked to complete this survey as part of a statistics project to help Mathematics students of Foundation in Natural & Built Environment (FNBE) February 2014 Semester 2 to study the understanding level of female adults on breast cancer in Malaysia.!! ! !

(a)  There are no right or wrong answers—we just want to know what you think. Your responses will provide us with important information to help our study become even better. !

(b)  All your responses are completely anonymous. No one will ever see your answers and no identifying information (name, ID, or classroom) will be connected to your answers. !

(c)  All student results will be reported only in terms of how groups of students responded. !

!The survey should take you approximately 10 minutes to complete.!

In conclusion, the major purposes of this survey is to create awareness among individuals in Malaysia as well as students on chronic diseases that may lead to death. Through the survey, we have tested the understanding level of all the participants on their knowledge for breast cancer. Of course, there are still rooms for Malaysian to improve their own knowledge on breast cancer. Not only do they need to know about breast cancer, in addition, they must also know a bit of other chronic diseases as the saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure! ”!! When we first figuring out what to put in the questionnaire, we have no idea at all on breast cancer. After doing some research, we gained a lot of knowledge on breast cancer basically the facts of it. We have learned that there are five stages of breast cancer. Even if there’s a lump in the breast, that doesn’t mean necessarily, the person, has breast cancer. Furthermore, wearing an underwire bra may lead to breast cancer. We have also learned that men will also get breast cancer. In Malaysia, breast cancer is the second most dangerous chronic disease. Most importantly, all stages of breast cancer can all be cured if discovered earlier.! ! From this survey, we have learned a lot of things such as working as a team, collecting data, analysing survey forms, tabulating data, converting data into charts, be able to apply statistics principle in calculation, writing a report, first and foremost, design an infographic poster. !! Through this survey, we hope that more and more people will be aware of breast cancer. Last but not least, measures to increase uptake of breast cancer screening and factors as to why women with breast cancer present late should be studied as well to assist in more development of policy on the prevention of breast cancer in Malaysia.!
