Maths Lesson for Thursday 16th April 2020:

LO: Lengths in mm and cm

Task 1 –Mental Maths

Task 2 – Introduction Task:

Task 3 – Practical Task:

We are measuring the length of objects around your

house

using a ruler or tape measure. Using centimetres/cm.

1. Find five objects that measure under 30 cm

2. Name them and measure them to the nearest

cm

3. Record these in order of length from the

shortest to the longest.

4. What is the shortest length?

5. What is the longest length?

6. What is the difference between the shortest

and longest lengths?

Task 4 – Written Tasks:

Remember 1 cm = 10 mm and 1 m = 100 cm

So 10mm = 1 cm So 250 m = 2m 50cm

Remember 1 cm = 10 mm

Maths Lesson for Friday 17th April 2020:

LO: Equivalent lengths- m and cm

Task 1 –Mental Maths

Task 2 – Introduction Task:

Remember a metre is 100 cm long – look carefully at

where you need to put 0 and 100 and then consider

what number you will be counting in.

Task 3 – Practical Task:

Using a tape measure, measure up to ten objects

longer than a metre / 100cm and record them as

follows:

Bedroom door – 230 cm or 2m 30 cm

Task 4 - Written Tasks:

Remember 1 km = 1000m

So ½ a km = 500m

Task 5 – Problem:

Task 2 – Introduction Task:

Task 3 – Practical Task:

Find three similar objects, for example tea spoons,

measure each spoon and add up the total length.

Then put the three spoons end to end and measure

them to check your calculation. Repeat this for five

sets of objects.
