2014-2016 in collaboration between with UNAIDS and UN Women the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States convened in partnership with the Government of Algeria a high level meeting of women leaders from the MENA region on HIV and gender equality on 10-11 November 2014. The theme of this high level meeting is “Advancing gender equality and the HIV response, as part of the Arab AIDS Strategy 2014-2020 and the Post-2015 development agenda”. This High Level Meeting is organized to support the implementation of the Arab AIDS Strategy (2014-2020) endorsed by the Council of Arab Ministers of Health on March 2014 and in line with the 2011 United Nations General Assembly Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS and to position gender equality and HIV in the Regional Debate on the Post-2015 Development Agenda”. LAS is preparing two workshops on the media's role in addressing the AIDS epidemic, as well as the role of religious leaders in raising

2015 - 2016 LAS participated in the regional consultative meeting on social protection and AIDS during 4-6/8/2015 in Sharm El-Sheikh, with the presence of UNDP, UNAIDS, ILO, and representatives from Arab countries, and AIDS programs and officials of the ministries of social affairs managers, and representatives of civil society, the aims of this meeting is to strengthen and integrate the response to AIDS in the health and development efforts and social protection systems to remove AIDS from isolation, work to achieve a decent standard of living for people living with HIV and their families without discrimination and guarantee their rights in social protection, especially of women, girls and children, according to the objectives set out in the Arab strategy to combat AIDS 2014-2020.

UNFPA 2015-2017 The Arab Parliamentarian Forum with the support of LAS, UNFPA, and AUC Center for Social Research are preparing for the first general assembly of the Forum, to be held from 26-27 Jan 2016, in Amman, Jordan. The Forum should be attended by representatives from Arab countries parliamentarians, partners from LAS, UNFPA, and SRC. This meeting aims at setting the organizational infra-structure for the Arab Parliamentarian Forum which will include approving the constitutional bylaws and appointing the Secretariat Office, establishing the committees and electing its members, establishing the Secretariat Office in Amman. LAS will provide 2 awareness workshops and 2 Advocacy training workshop to the Forum in 2016-2017 the workshops aims to discuss the critical Population issues that are raising right now and how we can reach the goals of post 2015 agenda.

Regional Workshop on ICPD-based Post 2015 SDG priority indicators and review in the Arab region,

The main objective was to build on the results of the Special Session United Nations General Assembly (UNGASS) endorsement of ICPD review agenda which emphasized that ICPD review should be in the core of the SDG agenda beyond 2015 and the importance that all populations to get high quality basic services including health care, education, family planning, and address population related issues including fertility, elderly, infant, child and maternal mortality, and HIV (AIDS). The workshop was attended by some (60) participants from a number of Arab states, ASRO, UNFPA HQ, League of Arab States, UNESCWA and representatives from UNFPA country offices in the Arab region. The list of participants included senior officials from National Statistical Offices, Population Commissions/Councils, Sectoral Ministries, Parliamentarians, Regional and National Research Centers in

Two rounds of the training workshop were organized for government officials of LAS member States in areas of international migration, refugees, and human displacement. The first one was held during the period from 9-12/12/2013, while the second was held during the period from 23-26/6/2014. The workshops aimed to build the capacity of LAS Member States in the promotion of the rights of migrants, refugees and internally displaced people. The participants in the workshops represented ministries of: migration and Arab expatriates, foreign affairs, interior and human rights national institutions.

children in armed conflicts, aiming to set some mechanisms to provide protection, habilitation, education and health services to displaced and refugee children. Also, the issue of violence against children, aiming to enhance national child protection systems at the local level, set preventive programmes, limit early marriage and children sexual exploitation. The Strategy is also addressing the issues of early childhood, children in conflict with law, children with disabilities, child labour issues, children with imprisoned mothers, children and managing crises resulting from disasters. the committee requested the WFC Dept to prepare “The Arab Strategy to Promote Children’s Status in the Arab Region Post 2015” and its Plan of Action to be considered as the Arab agenda to promote childhood conditions in the region during the period of 2015 – 2030, in cooperation with several experts and academia of good experience, as

Secretariat headquarters, were the Arab Focal Points have requested a revision of the Strategy; and the next meeting is going to take place at its headquarters as well, on 14 – 15 December 2014. - On 27-28th of May 2015 the Arab Focal Points to the UNAOC held a meeting at the premises of the Arab League in Cairo to explore the possibilities of developing and promoting the Unified Arab Strategy according to the Arab Member States perspectives. -During this meeting the Arab Focal Points amended the Strategy’s title to be the “Unified Arab Strategic Plan for the Alliance of Civilizations 2016-2019. They also drafted the preamble, international and Arab references, objectives and joint programs and activities of the Arab Strategic Plan . -LAS is in the process to hold the Arab Focal Points meeting in Cairo 20-22 December 2015 to discuss the Arab joint programs and activities to be integrated in the Strategic Plan.
