MATTHEW 22:1-14
The Parable “Analyzed”
An Invitation… (1-10) A king hosts a wedding
feast for his son. The king sends his
servants to call them but they would not come.
The king patiently sends other servants to announce “All things are ready.”
Some didn’t care! The king’s patience runs
out! The original guests proved
unworthy! Servants sent to invite all!
Matthew 22:1-10
The Parable “Analyzed”
A Guest Improperly Attired (11-14) The king came in to see
the guests. Someone was not dressed
for a wedding! The king questions the
guest. By the man’s silence, he
acknowledges that the king is right!
The king’s reaction is swift and unsparing!
He was defiantly opposing the king and all the king represented. He was opposing everything the marriage feast represented. He was also aligning himself with the opposition—those who had initially refused to accept the invitation. Here was a willfully defiant attitude of the deepest kind.
The Parable “Applied”
Have You Spurned The Father’s Invitation? Through Indifference?
Acts 17:26,27 Rom. 1:20 1 Tim. 2:3,4
Through Rebelliousness? Romans 2:4-11
The Parable “Applied”
Simply responding to God’s Invitation isn’t enough!
Are You Properly Attired For The Wedding? Many seek to attend the “wedding” in
apparel of their own choosing. Romans 10:1-3
We must be willing to put on the “apparel” that God gives us! (According to heaven’s dress code!) We must “put on” Jesus Christ! (Gal.
3:26,27) We must “put on” the new man! (Col.
3:5-14) We must “put on” righteous deeds!
(Rev. 19:6-9; Tit. 3:1-14)
Will You Be Among The Chosen?
"For many are called, but few are chosen." (Matthew 22:14 NKJV) Those initially invited
were “called,” but because they were preoccupied with other concerns they were not chosen!
God chooses those who choose Him and rejects those who reject Him!
The word “chosen” here applies to those who not only receive a call, but willingly choose to come, being sure they are dressed with the right garment, and remain committed to the Kingdom of God.
To them the Kingdom means everything. They are willing pay any price, make any sacrifice, and remain committed for life to God and His values.
Will You Be Among The Chosen?
Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. "For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:38-39 NKJV)
Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. (Acts 2:41 NKJV)
