Here are some common tax mistakes to avoid:
• Not updating address — The IRS will mail all communica-tion to the address listed on your tax return.
• Not deducting sales tax if not paying state income tax— If you live in a state where there is no state income tax and you are itemizing, then you can take a deduction for the sales taxes you have paid all year long (including taxes on purchased vehicles). If you are not sure how much you paid in sales tax, you can use the calculator provided by the IRS to determine an accurate sum.
• Victim of identity theft? — You will need a pin from the IRS (it will be mailed to the address listed on your last ta return to e ectronica fi e our ta es.
• Not depreciating rental property — Depreciation counts as a loss of income. When you sell your rental property the IRS will count depreciation, whether you claimed it or not, when determining capital gains/losses.
• ot fi ing returns for a i e bers with earned inco e a i e bers can fi e their own ta return, not claiming themselves as an exemption, and usually get back taxes paid. This situation is seen most com-monly with high school and college students with part-time jobs.
• Early withdrawal of Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) or Individual Retirement Account (IRA) — If you took an early withdrawal of your TSP or IRA you will be assessed a 10 percent penalty and will also owe federal income ta on that a ount at the ti e ou fi e.
• Not avoiding tax liability by investing in IRA/TSP — A great way to minimize your tax liability and plan for retirement is to invest in a traditional IRA or TSP.
• Spending tax refund instead of investing in retirement — older Americans fear running out of money more than dying.

Grant Library receives makeover
Above: The Grant Library main reading room renovation project included new furniture and removing 8-foot tall book shelves and replacing them with 4-foot tall shelves. Phase 2 of the project will include new carpeting. Inset: The reading room prior to renovation.
The Grant Library teen center was added in 2013, but the latest renova-tion includes new furniture and technology upgrades.
Grant Library administrators added new computers in its computer lab as part of its most recent renova-tion project. The computers support common access cards and allow users to print in black and white currently, with plans to add color-printing capability in the future.
