To All Church Members: The housekeeping and maintenance of the First Baptist Church buildings and properties are critical to the church’s identity and its witness within the community. The buildings and properties belong to God and we should all be good stewards of what God has blessed us with.
The main purpose of the maintenance program at the First Baptist Church of Orangeburg is to identify, prioritize, and schedule all housekeeping and maintenance needs on a routine and preventive basis. The housekeeping consists of those tasks that keep First Baptist Church facilities attractive, clean, neat, and safe. The maintenance consists of routine duties and preven-tive methods to keep all equipment operating properly and preserve the buildings and properties of the church.
To accommodate facility use, room request and setup, and work request for maintenance repairs that maybe needed, a work request and a room setup forms have been developed to assist administrative staff to respond to your request and needs. If you have a request, please come by the church office and complete a work request and/or room setup form. Your request at that time will be reviewed and given to the appropriate staff level. God has en-riched all of us in so many ways; especially, with the facilities we have here at the First Baptist Church. This is just one part of the overall ministry we can all participate to help preserve and utilize good stewardship of what God has blessed us with here at the First Baptist Church of Orangeburg.

The American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 has brought
back the ability to withdraw from your IRA tax-free and
give it to charity for tax years 2012 and 2013.
The IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution allows IRA
owners who are age 70 ½ or older to take from tradi-
tional or Roth IRA and transfer the funds directly to a
qualified charity. The amount withdrawn counts to-
wards satisfying the IRS Required Minimum Distribu-
tion and is not taxable income.
The tax-free charitable IRA distribution provision is
temporary and will expire December, 2013.
Walking with God...
Enoch, Noah’s great-grandfather, lived to be 365. But he
didn’t die; instead, God “took him away” to heaven
(Genesis 5:24). The reason, according to the Bible, is
t h a t E n o c h “ w a l k e d w i t h G o d . ”
Such intimate communion with God, said Edward Grif-
fin (1770-1837), “is very fitly represented by two close
friends walking together, engrossed with each other, un-
mi n d f u l o f a l l t h e w o r l d b e s i d e s . ”
Griffin added: “When two friends thus walk together
they keep the same course, and thus are advancing to-
ward the same object. So the [person] who walks with
God is conformed to him in moral character. Benevo-
lence reigns.”
Good Friday?
At first glance, Good Friday appears to be a misnomer.
It seems inconsistent that the day of Christ’s crucifixion
should in any way be described as “good.” But that
seeming inconsistency vanishes when we understand
that the ancient meaning of good was “holy.” The word
holy is entirely consistent with the suffering and cross
that Christ endured for us.
Hence, Good Friday is also know as Holy Friday.
