marijuana, and other drug use by young people and to the drug abuse education of parents and community members.

Do you know? 50% of adolescent death is alcohol related and 75% of all preventable death is caused by alcohol and tobacco

use. Average age for the inception of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drug use is 12. Communicating a clear and consistent family policy about alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drug use

delays or prevents drug use. Notifying parents of suspected teen alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drug use is essential for immediate intervention.

Teenage parties in our communities are being held without supervision, and alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other drugs are readily available, sometimes provided by a parent or sibling.

It is illegal to allow minors to drink at parties or other gatherings. Penalties may include a $1,000 fine, six months in prison and/or the cost of police services.

Parent Pledges are compiled into a directory with PARENTS’ names and phone numbers (NO ADDRESSES). The Parent Pledge Directory will be available online in late Fall to those who signed the pledge so they may network.

Dear LCC Family,

The LCC Foundation proudly welcomes you to our 2017-2018 school year. We are excited to partner with you in providing your students the best educational experience possible. The LCC Foundation exists solely to support and enhance our school’s Academics, Arts, and Athletics. The San Dieguito Unified High School District covers our basic educational needs, and the Foundation funds supplemental courses, equipment, coaches, and technology that enrich the LCC experience. We are coming off a banner year in which we raised over $100,000 during our annual parent campaign! These funds went to support crucial classroom areas. For instance, we were able to give $35,000 to our STEM classes alone. We were also able to fund the “Every Fifteen Minutes” program that impacted our entire student body. This is on top of the tens of thousands that we granted to our teachers and their classrooms.

This year, we have our eyes set on even bigger and better things for our students. As always, we are partnering with Principal Marcus to fund key initiatives and areas of need. We are focused on improving key course offerings and expanding after school opportunities. We are planning to once again expand our Foundation Speaker Series for all school assemblies. We will be funding our after school enrichment program. And as always, we will be granting money to our teachers to fund important projects and supplies in our classrooms. La Costa Canyon has an incredibly talented student body who achieve great things in Academics, Athletics, and Arts. The Foundation relies on your donations to provide funding for a deeper, enriched educational experience. Even though we increased the amount of families who supported the Foundation last year, we still are under 25% of total families who give. Our goal, as always, is for 100% participation no matter how much a family gives. On the back of this form, you can read about different giving levels. If you have never supported us before, a simple way to begin is by giving a “dollar a day” for every school day of the year. That would be the $180 option you see below. LCC GRAD NIGHT 2019 INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES

What is Grad Night? Grad Night is a high energy, alcohol and drug free, all night party for graduating

seniors, held June 14, 2019, the evening of graduation. The party is held at Party Pals, a professionally

staffed and secured venue located in Sorrento Valley (www.partypals.com). This will be our 13th year at

Party Pals. There is food, music, games, entertainment, prizes and surprises...an exciting, memorable

way for all of our graduates to safely celebrate together the closing of this major chapter in their lives.

NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD THE NIGHT OF GRAD NIGHT. Ticket sales begin Tuesday, August 14th, at

Senior Business Day and will continue throughout the year, both online and in the Foundation Office.

Starting May 3rd, tickets will also be sold at lunch outside the administration building by the parking lot

and subsequently every Friday at lunch through June 7th. (Senior check-out date will be the last day to

buy tickets).

The price per ticket is $125 thru May 31st, 2019, after which the price per ticket will increase to $145.

If paying by check, make payable to ‘LCC Foundation’ with ‘Grad Night’ on the memo line. Please note, a

COMPLETED AND SIGNED PERMISSION SLIP MUST BE TURNED IN along with payment.

We are also welcoming cash donations of ANY amount, in order to assist in the participation of

students who otherwise would not be able to attend this fun night with their peers, and also welcome

corporate sponsorships.

There is also a Holiday Greenery fundraising opportunity in October to earn money towards a Grad

Night ticket.

The La Costa Canyon Grad Night Committee consists of LCC parent volunteers from all four grade levels.

Without the dedication and commitment of volunteers, along with generous donations of food,

products, and money from local businesses and the community, Grad Night could not take place. If you

wish to be a part of the fun either in planning or for a few hours during Grad Night itself (giving parents

Graduates and Parents, please review the following

GRAD NIGHT POLICIES & PROVISIONS

1. Only La Costa Canyon High School graduating seniors may attend. Any Senior who is removed

from the graduation ceremonies for inappropriate behavior will not attend Grad Night. Their

ticket price will not be refunded.

2. Check-in for Grad Night begins at 9:45 pm. Buses to and from Grad Night are provided by Party

Pals. The first bus departs for Party Pals at 10:00pm; last bus departs at 10:30pm. Graduates are

required to stay at Grad Night until the end. Buses transport the students back to LCC at that

time. Parent pick-up will be at approximately 4:45 am at the LCC parking lot. It is the

responsibility of the graduate’s family to drop off their graduate at check-in and pick-up the

following morning. Parent/Guardian will be notified by 10:15pm if the graduate has not

checked-in for Grad Night at LCCHS. If a graduate must arrive late or leave early, prior written

arrangements must be made with Christy Monko no later than June 13th. Graduate must be

accompanied by a parent/guardian when arriving or leaving under these special conditions and

must be checked-in and out by a Grad Night committee member.

3. Dress is casual but in good taste. Graduates are encouraged to wear an LCC Maverick / Senior /

Alumni T-shirt, as well as a sweatshirt or jacket, as part of the venue is outside.

4. LCC parent volunteers assist Party Pals staff in chaperoning the evening as inconspicuously as

possible.

5. There will be a checkroom for graduates to leave personal belongings (jackets, prizes, etc.) They

will be given a claim check to redeem their things at the end of the party. PLEASE BRING ONLY

ITEMS THAT ARE NECESSARY. PURSES, WALLETS AND KEYS ARE NOT NECESSARY. NO MONEY

IS NEEDED THE EVENING OF GRAD NIGHT AS YOU ARE BEING DROPPED OFF AND PICKED UP.

Any items brought to Grad Night are the responsibility of the graduate even if checked. Grad

Night will not be responsible for lost or damaged items. Yes, you may bring your cell phone.

6. Proper behavior is expected. Unruly graduates will be isolated until a parent arrives to take

them home.

7. Use or possession of alcohol, drugs, drug paraphernalia, or weapons will not be tolerated.

Parents and police will be notified immediately.

8. Smoking, vaping, and tobacco products are not permitted.
