LIFE TOGETHER Dear Friends, Blessed Eastertide to you. The 50 days of Easter season are opening up for us, and we are moving toward the celebration of the other Easter sacra-ments: Confirmation on May 9th and First Commun-ion on May 15th. Both of these initiation sacraments will mark this stage of the faith journey of the fami-lies with candidates. Please pray for them all. The parish Habitat House Build is next Saturday the 7th. Call Lori at the Office for details. The Master Plan Committee continues its work this week. The next stage, a financial feasibility study is underway. Renderings of the Master Plan will be in Church for you to see. It is our custom to offer the Anointing of the Sick on the first Wednesday of the month at the 8:30am Mass, which would be this week, May 4th. This sacrament is for those who are seriously ill, chronically ill or facing surgery. This coming Saturday is our annual Parish Apprecia-tion Supper which will follow the 4:00pm Vigil Mass, @ 5:30pm. We’ll have crawfish, jambalaya and the trimmings. If you have been involved in any parish ministry we’d like to have you join us so the Parish Staff can say “thank you !!” I hope your Easter week is going well. Please pray for one another and the parish. Love,

A CALL TO THE SERVANTS OF GOD: Born in the Spirit of Faith

Parish Stewardship Summary

Fiscal Year to Date July 1, 2010 to April 17, 2011

Parent’s Night Out for Special Needs Children: For parents of special needs children, providing one Friday evening semi-monthly. “Blessed are they who have not seen and yet believed,” Jesus says in today’s Gospel. For those who have not seen to believe, however, we must be good

stewards of our faith, living it joyfully and sharing it generously. Then, in our time too, “men and women in great numbers” will be “added to the Lord.” See John 20:29; Acts 5:14

ADORATION

Join Deacon Brent Duplessis every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm for Eucharistic Adoration. Taking special time with our Lord is a great way to grow closer to Him.

CATHOLIC ALCOHOLICS –CALIX CHAPTER A new chapter of international association of Catholic alcoholics, called CALIX, has been formed in Baton Rouge. WELCOME THE NEW ROMAN MISSAL

Full, conscious, and active participation

The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (Sacrosanctum Concilium), the first document approved by the world’s Bishops gathered at the Second Vatican Council, serves as the blueprint for our liturgical renewal. It asserts that liturgy is a celebration of Christ’s paschal mystery. Our full, conscious and active participation in liturgy is vital since liturgy is the source and summit of our whole Christian life.

We love to hear from you… You would be amazed by the volume of information that flows through our parish records office each week! We appreciate everyone who updates records and lets us know when you move, get a new phone number, etc. All of this is very important for sacramental records and is essential for parish services. Quite often you might be “using up” old checks that don’t match our records. When this is the case, could you please note the situation on your check. Thanks for helping us keep our records up-to-date by:

Informing the front office or Mickie Marchiafava of any address, phone number or membership changes. Identifying your tithing by check, cash in an envelope (with name and address) or simply use our visiting envelopes in the

back of church. Confirming that you ARE registered in the parish. Parish registration forms are in the front of church.

Thank you! Mickie Marchiafava, (225) 753.7950 or [email protected]

A REFLECTION ON THIS WEEK’S SCRIPTURES

GET REAL! Those of us who flatter ourselves that we have a “realistic” view of the world may listen to the first reading today and say, “Get real!” when we hear Luke’s account of the early, Elysian days of the Christian movement. All seems to be rosy, lots of wonders are performed, everyone shares selflessly, they eat together in “exultation,” and the Lord added to their numbers? Well, who wouldn’t be attracted to a group like this? From the wind that swept through the upper room at Pentecost as the Spirit of God blew over the face of the waters in Genesis, and the fire that appeared over each disciple as the light appeared at the dawn of creation, Luke’s intent in Acts is to show a new creation, a restoration of creation’s original goodness through the working of the Holy Spirit. It is the Spirit who continues to make us into the Body of Christ. We may occasionally, like Thomas in the Gospel, say, “Get real!” but our ultimate reality in the Spirit is to work continually to make our Christian community a new creation, one in which others will find God’s joy and beauty. © Copyright, J. Lord this week help me to …………..

FEAST OF FAITH The Homily The ambo, or pulpit, is a special place—it is the place for God’s word. That is why it is not used for all the spoken words of the Mass, even important words like the collects and the blessing. The ambo is only used for the scripture readings, and for the homily and the prayer of the faithful. The homily is part of the Liturgy of the Word. It flows from the readings we have just heard, and helps us to understand the way in which God is speaking to us today. The homily is not a lecture, a catechism lesson, or a speech. It is more like an exhortation; it has an urgency about it, for it calls us to find our-selves in the scripture, to live the faith we profess, to see our world by the light of the Gospel. The homily, in itself a response to God’s word, demands a re-sponse from us. There are many styles of preaching and many ways to respond to the scriptures. But whether the homily is weak or strong, an open ear and an open heart can find in it an abundance of spiritual nourishment. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.
