WORSHIP NOTES

Easter is more than a single day of celebration—

it is a season that spans 50 days beyond the Day of

Resurrection and the Day of Pentecost. Today is

the sixth Sunday of Easter.

Our anthem today is a setting of 'Shall We Gather

at the River' for tenor, flute, and piano. The hymn

was written by Robert Lowry in the summer of

1864, and was first published as 'Mutual

Recognition in the Hereafter' in 1865.

The first stanza asks a question about meeting

the saints who have gone on before at the river

of life, and the refrain is an affirmative answer.

The remaining stanzas expand on the theme of

Christian death and eternal life, and recall imagery

from Revelation 21. The tune is also by Robert

Lowry and was written for these words. He named

the tune HANSON PLACE after Hanson Place

Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, where

Lowry was serving as pastor at the time.

BELIZE UPDATE

Join Dan Terpstra after church today in Room 102

for a visual and verbal update on his trip to Belize

in early March. Dan presentation, titled "Belize:

Five (Not So) Easy Places," will explore the chal-

lenges and opportunities for mission in Belize by

reviewing his experiences in several different

communities. The infotainment begins at 11:20.

Cave Quest is the VBS theme for June 23 and 24

here at FPC. We are partnering with First Chris-

tian and Grace Lutheran to share in the adven-

ture. The program is free and you are encouraged

to invite friends and neighbors to attend. The

program will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

(with an hour before and after for childcare) for

ages 1 year to rising 6th grade.

Volunteers to help in various roles are needed,

Church Women United invites the public to celebrate May Friendship Day

through a worship program on Friday, May 6, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church,

212 N. Tulane. The program “Finding Grace at the Table” focuses on the table as

a place for reconciliation and the need to recognize God presence in each person.

Fellowship begins at 11:30 a.m., followed by a brief meeting and program at

noon. A potluck lunch will be held afterward. Reservations are appreciated but
