Living and Giving in Christ 2020: Unity through Diocesan Ministries 2020 appeal has begun. Many of you should have received materials in the mail this past week. The gifts we share nourish the Body of Christ & build it up so that we may do God’s work in every community in WY. Please prayerfully consider your pledge to Living & Giving in Christ: Unity through Diocesan Ministries. Our parish goal is $14,815. Please return your pledge form to the diocese. You also may donate online at www.livingandgivinginchrist.org; then click where it says DONATE HERE. This year, in addition to its annual tithe to organizations that care for the vulnerable throughout the world, the Diocese of Cheyenne will ensure that 5 % of Living and Giving in Christ 2020 gifts will be earmarked for COVID-19 relief efforts. If you are unable to make a monetary gift at this time, please consider giving the gift of prayer; check the box that says you are willing to make that commitment, & mail it to the diocese or return it to the parish office. Prayer has the power to dramatically make a difference
to our diocese, as well as to the rest the world. Prayer: “Before we were born, before we were formed in our mother’s womb, God knew us. May our faithful giving to Living and Giving in Christ: Unity through Diocesan Ministries strengthen & enhance the ministries of our diocese that work with women, children, and their families.” WHY DO WE DO THAT? CATHOLIC LIFE EXPLAINED: QUESTION- I have a friend who says she doesn’t need to attend Mass because she prays to God every day. What are your thoughts on this justification? ANSWER - If the only reason for going to church were to talk to God, your friend might be right. Prayer is not something limited to a physical place or even a holy place. If the sole purpose of the Church were prayer, it would be a narrow purpose indeed. The Church is a community of believers, formed by “one Lord, one faith, one Baptism.” It is an outward sign of our faith in God instituted by Christ, and the purpose of the Church is to give us grace, that is, a share in God’s life. Coming to Mass is not really for God’s sake, but for ours. If we believe that Jesus is truly present in the holy Eucharist, then we will want to be in his presence. We will want to be fed by him. Our daily prayer and good works are strengthened by our authentic encounter with our Lord. For Catholics, it is at Mass that we celebrate the source and summit of our faith. If this is true, why would we ever
stay away? ©LPi
***The church will be open Sunday mornings from 10:30am-12pm. You are welcome to come pray during this time. We ask that you kindly observe social distancing protocal.***
Fifth Sunday of Easter Reflection from Father Lucas~ We learn from the Acts of the Apostles that at the beginning of the Church, prayer and the preaching of the Gospel were the most important priorities. However, even before this first Christian community grew and opened its doors to other peoples and traditions, new challenges calling for distributive justice appeared within the Faith family. The disciples supplied a twofold response to this challenge:
1. They summoned those men who lived as true disciples of the
Lord, because their lifestyles were consistent with His Gospel. 2. They introduced the ministry of Charity.
It is this evangelical lifestyle, permeated with prayer, that enabled the first Christian community to achieve the delicate balance of prayer and service that formed the foundation of the Church of God. From this episode emerges a people that lives an orderly communion--one in which each finds and performs his task, without losing sight of unity. Differences are not denied or repressed, but are lived within the framework of communion, thus becoming a source of wealth. Consequently, we can conclude that the laity are effective in their ministry if they are spiritually prepared. Only in this way can they be genuine extensions of the ministry of Christ to the hungry, the sick, and the troubled world of today.
The Church will always need people from various groups to be entrusted with Her outreach ministry of Charity. It is my prayer that an encounter with Covid-19 has given to our Christian life a new horizon and a decisive direction characterized by prayer, teaching and corporal works of mercy. Our common vocation to holiness of life invites us to become a communion for the mission.
The month of May is a time when the People of God express with particular intensity their love and devotion for the Blessed Virgin Mary.
For this reason, I want to encourage everyone to rediscover the beauty of praying
the Rosary at home in the month of May.
I am providing two prayers to Our Lady that you can recite at the end of the Rosary, and that I myself will pray in the month of May, in spiritual union with all
of you.
Dear brothers and sisters, contemplating the face of Christ with the heart of Mary our Mother will make us even more united as a spiritual family and will help us
overcome this time of trial. — Pope Francis
O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey
as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who, at the foot of the cross, were united with Jesus’ suffering,
and persevered in your faith. “Protectress of the Roman people”,
you know our needs, and we know that you will provide,
so that, as at Cana in Galilee, joy and celebration may return
after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus tells us.
For he took upon himself our suffering, and burdened himself with our sorrows
to bring us, through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection.
Amen.
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God;
Do not despise our petitions in our necessities,
but deliver us always from every danger,
O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
