(JY 3 73) to Folkstone, England, via closed bag through the US, re-entering Canada at Windsor, Ont (JY 17 73) bs and Hamilton, Ont bs (JY 18). At this point the post office determined that the mail wouldn’t make the July 19 sailing of the Allan line “Polynesian” and thus sent the cover via Boston and the Cunard “Helca” leaving July 22. Under the first packet principle, the post office rated the cover only single deficiency for the con- venience of catching the earlier sailing. The cover is rated “1”d Stg collect (2¢) which represents the difference between the 6¢ Allan line rate and the 8¢ Cunard rate via the US. #39 6¢ Small Queen tied by cork hs on cover from Victoria, Brit. Col. #35 1¢ Small Queen grid cancelled on uprated domestic postal card 1¢ attempting to pay 2¢ postcard rate, but picture of Niagara Falls on the reverse was not allowed and thus letter rated 5¢, short paid 3¢ “T” 15 centimes, “3d” due in England. From hamilton, to Liverpool, 1894. $150

#53 3¢ Jubilee tied by London and Niagara Falls Ry PO (JY 6 97) on Ingersoll Packing Co advertising cover with fantastic all-over back advertising showing factory. $225

#75 1¢ Numeral tied by Montreal type 8 flag (OCT 7 99) on Mail Souvenir card to Antwerp, Belgium bs (Oct 17 99). The card is an accordian style fold-put showing pictures of Montreal. Scarce. $125

Item 9. 1921 15¢ Registered to Poland.

#104(4), 106(4) 1¢, 2¢ Admirals tied by Victoria, BC “3” roller on 3¢ stationery envelope to Lodz, Po-land, bs (Oct 19 20) paying 15¢ registered letter rate. Small cover tear at top left. Scarce. $100

Item 8. J.C. Wilson Sports Advertising Cover.

#78 2¢ Numeral tied by Crystal Beach, Ont (Aug 2 99) on J.C. Wilson advertising cover showing GOLF and HUNTING, to Buffalo, NY. The cover is trimmed and opened for display but this is an es-pecially rare usage of the ENVELOPE from this sports series. You occasionally see the similar post-cards but they are often unused. This is a rare example of a used envelope from this series. I have never had an envelope (mint or used). Have I said “rare” often enough to make my point? $350

20¢ Harvester, 1¢ Arch, 5¢ Ottawa (small tear) tied by Levis, Que (AU 9 32) on parcel tag to Sweden. A most unsual use and the first example of any of these issues on a tag to Sweden. $100

#111 5¢ Admiral(2) tied by grid hs on cover from St. Jean .. Que (SP 28 12) on cover to Bagnolet, France with two keyhole registered hs, reverse with Montreal, Paris, etc bs. $50

#202 5¢ UPU stamp with UPU preparation cacenl (Juin 28 1933) on Ottawa postcard to Switzerland.An amazing example of personal mail from the UPU. Citizens, collectors etc were not permitted to use the postal facilities. The few examples that do show up are often “philatelic”. This is the first that I have seen as a postcard and not a souvenir. $150

#342 6¢ Wilding tied by Vancouver slogan (Nov 24 54) on cover to Legelund, Sweden. Scarce 6¢ surface rate, unsealed backflap. (Cover image reduced slightly to fit page). $75

Item 18. 1961 Compulsory Registered to Holland, Postage Due.

#341 5¢ Wilding #351 10¢ Kayak tied by Quebec slgogan (3 X 1961) on #10 cover to Amsterdam, Holland. In Netherlands registration label attached and 50¢ blue postage due tied. The company Real dealth with financial transactions from overseas. The cover was compulsory registered and the regis-tration fee rated postage due (50c). This is only the second such example I’ve handled. $125

#167 3¢ Arch tied by Montreal split ring (Jul 3 32) on cover with purple boxed “Eastern Arctic Mail Service Jul 9 1932 Hudson’s Bay Co. S.S. ‘Ungava’ “, return notation and similar boxed hs but this time Jul 21 presumably on return trip out. Most peculiar. $150
