I think last week’s District and Prayer Conference was, from feedback I’ve received, an uplifting, enjoyable and inspirational time for the Northeastern District Fami ly. It seemed the theme of “Open Doors” struck a positive note with al l our delegates. I really feel that we made g ood on our pre-Conference commitment to ensuring that prayer remained at the heart of our gather ing. It was good to see so many who made the morn ing prayer time a priori ty each day. I also appreciated ho w ready the delegates were to stand and pray for one another and for the open doors many of their co-laborers described with such enthusiasm. There was also the great opportunity to stand in prayer for those who came discouraged, were facing illness or needed wisdom. It was such a blessing for me to watch as you supported and encouraged each other. Pastor Mark Patterson and the people of Niagara Alliance Church did a beautiful job of preparing for and hosting Conference. They seemed to be everywhere, always pleasant and always wanting to serve us and care for our needs. Our days together were brightened by our large and small gatherings. The Tuesday night banquet “Open Doors of Opportunity” was filled with inspiring reports of progress in church multiplication and of several churches that are experiencing times of blessing, renewal and revitalization. The beautiful banqu et facility, music and deco rations enhanced a festive evening and the food was both plentiful and delicious! Our C&MA Board of Directors representative, Dr. Denny Krajacic, added greatly to C onference. His highligh ts of the President’s Repo rt and his own challenge to us as Alliance workers and people revealed very clearly his great hear t for the work, and workers, of the C&MA. His Wednesday evening message from Philippians 2 was challenging, encouraging and healing. It was truly enjoyable to have Denny with us. I cannot conclude without thanking you for granting me the great privilege to continue serving you, the C&MA and our Lord Jesus Christ by electing me to a second four-year term as District Superintendent. With God’s enabling and the help of Elaine, the District Office Staff and all of you, I will do my very best to make it four years of great impact for the glory of God. “Praise be to His glorious name forever; May the whole earth be fill ed with His glory. Not the End, But the Beginning

Our 2010 District and Prayer Conference is behind us. Niagara Alliance Churcleft no stone unturned in their meticulous preparations in hosting this event.Thank you Mark Patterson and all in Niagara Alliance Church who took part inserving our District family so graciously! Our fun, light hearted business sessioresembling a cross between a “Turkish Bazaar” and the new TV show, “A Minuto Win It” (with statements such as: “move nominations cease”, “second”, “I”could be said in a minute), passed some significant legislation. For example, conference delegates voted overwhelmingly in favor of accepting therecommendation in the Report of DEXCOM to change “District Mission, Visionand Core Value” statements to the following:

PURPOSE: We exist to glorify God by developing and supporting healthyleaders and churches that impact people for Christ.

PROCESS: The Northeastern District will accomplish its purpose by:

Embracing – the C&MA core valuesContextualizing – relevantly communicating the Bible’s unchanging message

Developing – leadership at all levels through communication, cooperation, compassion and coachingAdvancing – God’s Kingdom through the use of missional and incarnational too

PRODUCT: A growing district of Great Commission churches with Great Commandment hearts, empoweredby the Holy Spirit.

I love clear God filled vision and there is much about this new format that can be developed and embraced inthe Northeastern District for the glory of God! I’m thinking of two NCD growth force terms and definitions:

Interdependence and Symbiosis.

Interdependence: “Individual units are connected to each other in a larger system. Changes in one miniswill affect other ministries in the church and community.”

Symbiosis: “Different ministries can cultivate cooperative relationships so the mutual benefit is greater thaoperating separately.”

Imagine the benefits and dividends of all the District committees working on the same page to bring glory toGod. Imagine the positive sparks of iron sharpening iron that could take place in coaching clusters as pastorsexplain and receive healthy feed back of the purpose, process and product of the church the Lord has calledthem to serve. Imagine the productivity church leadership meetings and/or retreats could have whensometimes confusing language of mission and vision is understood in terms of purpose, process and product. In his book, From Embers to a Flame , Harry L. Reeder III with David Swavely clearly explains these terms andtheir importance in chapter 9: “Revitalization Strategy 7: Staying on Mission with a Vision – Simplicity andFocus in a Day of Complexity and Chaos.” A chapter subtitle, “State Your Mission” (what we are calling“Purpose”), Reeder writes: “…your statement should…answer these five questions: Who are we? What do wdo? Where do we do this? How do we do this? Why do we do this? This is an excellent book for church leade

who are serious about learning and implementing principles on “How God Can Revitalize Your Church” (ISBN978-1-59638-071-4 www.prpbooks.com).

While the 2010 District and Prayer Conference is behind us, a whole new “Open Door of Opportunity” is beforeeach of us as church and district leaders continue to discern God’s clear will as to how His purpose can befurther embraced for the glory of God.

For a healthier today and tomorrow, Jon

On Mother’s Day, not everyone iscelebrating. Some are remembering children whosend them flowers from Heaven. I’ve had the awesome privilege of sitting with mothers as their babies died. It’sa sacred place where the presence of God is so evident; I felt I might touch Him. The loving arms of Jesussurround these dear parents as they let go and place their precious one back into the arms of The Precious OneIn the most awful of life’s imaginings, Peace that defies human understanding and could only come from God isexperienced.

Why do babies die? Why do some live to be 94? I do not know. I do know we need not fear, because

God ministers comfort we cannot understand. This past winter, Reverend W. Emerson Ackerman, former District Superintendent of the NortheasternDistrict, went to live with Jesus. He was 94. He joins a baby named Beverly Maxine, gone to Heaven many yearago when she was two days old. Reverend Ackerman sat with Dr. and Mrs. David Reese as theirbeautiful blessing named Beverly returned to her Creator. He wrote a poem for Beverly’s funeral. It touched myheart and I hope it will touch yours.

“We like to feel those infant cheeks,Tho’ ne’er to be by earthly mother caressed.Yet, better still…E’en now are nestled ‘gainst our Savior’s breast.

The tiny hands,

Tho’ destined not for use in time’s employ,Yet, better still…Do clap at each sinner’s repentance with joy.

That unspoken voice,Tho’ not in earth’s hue and cry to raise,Yet, better still…Will learn in Heaven our Lord’s blest Name to praise.

We like to feel—yet because it’s realAnd our beloved Lord has willed it—to say,‘Tis not better…It’s best!”

~~Reverend W. Emerson Ackerman, written for and read at the funeral of Beverly Maxine Reese

May you experience God’s best today as you minister to those who celebrate and those who hurt. It isan awesome privilege.

Blessings for a wonderful Mother’s Day, Elaine
