Dahab
Dahab is located in the Sinai Peninsula, approximately 100 km north of the more famousSharm-el-Sheikh and borders the Red Sea.Originally, a small fshing village, Dahab shotto fame in the 1960s as a hippie haven. Today, most of the international hotel chains are rep-resented in Dahab but it still retains the chilledout atmosphere. A plethora of reasonably pricedaccommodation and eateries means thatit is an ideal destination to spend a long andrelaxed holiday. The name Dahab comes from
the Arabic for gold, which in turn refers to thegolden colored sands at the Dahab beaches.

found in the new part of the town, referred to as Dahab
Cit. Apart from the famos names in hospitait, there are
aso mid-price ranged hotes where there are wind and ite

ers and divers from all over the world.
The coastline along Dahab provides some of the best div-
ing and snoreing eperiences. Whether an eperienced
diver or just starting out, the gentle conditions and excellent
visibility means that everyone can enjoy the experience.
The diving is mainly from the shore, with a number of local
gide otts aaiae to enhance the eperience.
The most famos sites are the Canon and the be Hoe
(about 20 minutes drive north of Dahab). The tops of the
reefs are teeming with ife, maing them ne snoreing des-
tinations when the sea is cam. Its easy to nd haf-day tors
to both sites, and your hotel should be able to provide you
with transportation. One can aso opt to tae snoreing

Diving at the Bells Diving Spot in the Blue Hole is an
adrenaline pumping drive and one that requires at least
an Adance Open Water Certicate.
Mashraba has fewer people during the low season, but is
never really busy. Also worthwhile are the reefs off the south-
ern end of Mashraba. The water is very shallow at the reefs
near the be lagoon-so, if o are the ind who needs to
freqent empt ot the water from the face-mas, then
you can touch bottom easily here. The local favourites are
Abu Helal and the Hutts beautiful and dived much less
often than the other sites.

pedaos, aas and jet sis can e rented at the northern
end of Masbat and at the holiday villages on the lagoon.

ery adentros experience with tans, eqipment, as we
as, people being piled onto the camels, traveling to sites
north and south of Dahab.
Mount Sinai is well worth a visit, especially at either sunrise
or sunset, when the colours bring the sandy mountains to
life. A couple of days trip will allow you the opportunity to
seep nder the stars and wae p at the crac of dawn for
an early morning dive. A camel safari into the spectacular
montains ining the coast, especia the Ras A Gam
Protectorate is a beautiful experience.
Jeep Safaris
If o are ooing for a ess strenos form of trae than
on the ac of a came, then there is the option of a jeep
safari. The most popar is a trip to the Coored Canon,
etween St. Catherine and Nweia.

time soaing the sn or reading a oo on the each.

Un Ballo in MaSchera
One o the most amous operas by Giuseppe Verdi, the greatestItalian opera composer o the 19th century. The Opera is in threeacts with text by Antonio Somma. It was completed in 1859 andtells the true story o Swedish King Gustavus III, who was shotin 1792 at a masked ball in Stockholm. As the censor in Naplesprotested that the assassination o a king could not be shown onstage, Verdi was orced to change the locale rom 18th century,Stockholm to 17th century Boston and also the main characterrom King Gustavus III to Count Riccardo.Un Ballo in Maschera is a masterpiece o variety o style; it blendstragedy and comedy, lightness, drama and humor. The operassuccess lies in its delicate balance o musical personalities. It isnotable or the shortness and intensity o its principal arias and theabsence o grand design. The opera begins with a short Preludeillustrated by ballet dancers. It includes many amous numbers;
the tenor-aria La rivedr nell estasi in act I, the baritone-ariaEri tu che macchiavi quellanima in act III and the soprano-aria, Consentimi, O Signore one o Verdis simple but eectivemelodic arches.
