L et us take a moment this month to thank the brethren who have servedin our armed forces. As you know, this month we celebrate MemorialDay, a time to commemorate those who are serving and have served to

protect the freedoms we so richly enjoy.

Even the most superficial examination of our country reveals it was certain-ly founded upon Masonic ideals. Freedoms of due process, the democraticvote, and equal rights and protections under a constitution mirror almostexactly our great fraternity.

Ponder this for a moment: you have the freedom to believe in any religion, support any politician, speak freely within reason, and even defend your-self, all without governmental intrusion. You also have the freedom to go tolodge, enjoy fellowship, and practice Freemasonry whenever and whereveryou wish.

Brethren, I can tell you truthfully this is not so in many parts of the world. Ihave read many books and spoken with many brethren who have informedme that being caught in a Masonic lodge in other countries can be punishedby prison or even death!

So this month, I ask you again to ponder the beauty of Freemasonry’s philos-ophy, which, in so many ways, mirrors this great country’s philosophy. If youhave not come to lodge to participate recently, I urge to think about thosewho have quite literally risked their lives while practicing Freemasonry, aswell as our brave men and women who defend our freedoms so that we maycontinue to practice our craft.

Let this Master’s Voice be a wake up call that, even though we continue tostruggle in this “great experiment”, as our forefathers put it, we still live in thebest country in the world! I urge you to remember our fallen heroes, remem-ber the freedoms you possess, and be grateful that we have the ability to meetas brothers and as friends.

God bless Freemasonry and may God continue to bless the United States ofAmerica!

Sincerely & Fraternally

First up, Ms. Barbara McCarty, our TC No. 5Teacher of the Year was selected by ourGrand lodge as the honoree to receive the

NJ Masons Annual Award for the entire state!Guess we made a good selection.

The Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, April 12, waswell attended and a successful fundraiser for thelodge. The breakfast food was excellent, includ-ing RW Carl Jacobson’s delicious crepes.

At the April Regular Communication, RWHoward Dumhart, Jr. presented on the 4 M’s of asuccessful lodge: Membership, Money, Moraleand Memories. He also spoke about SWOTAnalysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunitiesand Threats).

We need your input as our top officers preparefor our Strategic Planning Meeting in late May.You should have received an email the last weekin April, outlining the procedure to use in provid-ing your observations about the Lodge. Pleasetake time to share your thoughts.

Off we went to theAnnual Communicationat Bally’s in AtlanticCity. The 15th Districtgathered for their annu-al dinner at the Fork andKnife restaurant. A greattime was had by allattending. Our 15th District Hospitality Suite wasagain hosted by WB Scott Mahan and WB BrianHartel, Sr. The food and drinks were wonderfuland second only to the company of the manylodge brethren and spouses. Later that evening,WM Toth, WB Stepek, WB Fernandez and JDRich Hopkins attended a number of other districthospitality suites, where Cigar Smoking was thefeatured event. Quite the smoky night!

Our new GM is MWAnthony W. Montuori. RWRoger Quintana waselected as Junior GrandWarden and MW John S.Ryan elected as GrandSecretary. All legislationwas approved (with someamendments). A fullemail report of GL activi-ty will follow. Also, let’snot forget that our very own WB Walter Stepekwas appointed Grand Chaplain by our new GM.Congrats RW Walt…can’t wait to see you close inshort form!

The month of May brings us to Pennington Day.We will be hosting an information booth on MainStreet and the Lodge will be open for visits fromthe public. We will be fundraising with a 50/50 raf-fle at the booth and using our lodge for paid park-ing. Memorial Day follows with our traditional 21gun salute, parade, and Famous Mason’s Float.Rumor has it that this year there are additionalFamous Masons expected. Remember, we need atleast 25 brothers to march in the parade so pleasejoin us if you can. For those that wish to come butwalking is a hardship, rides in a convertible andchairs on the float will be available.

At the May Regular Communication, we will behearing WB John Nagy, via Skype, on “Building

Free Men”. Brother JohnNagy has written many booksregarding Freemason-ryinterconnecting our ritualand the importance of theapplication of our teachings.A nice dinner is also planned.

Mother’s Day is coming. Weare assigned Volunteer Dutyat the Masonic Home in the

morning. If you get your presents for momthrough Amazon.com, don’t forget touse the AmazonSmile option to gener-ate money for our lodge. Click this link

This month is a busy month for thelodge. Memorial Day andPennington Day both occur, along

with the Strategic Planning Meeting andanother Open House. At Pennington Day,we will have an information booth onMain St. and the lodge will be open fortours, as it will be our Square andCompass Day. These events are crucial tothe lodge to help us gain new members.

It is important that our lodge membershipcontinues to grow, both for financial sta-bility and for increased fellowship and thecontinuation of a successful officerline. In the past few years, our member-ship has been declining, and we have notreceived a single petition for membershipin the past 5 months. The lodge cannotremain stable if this pattern continues.

I urge all members to think of someonethey know that may make a good Mason.Think of the the good men in your life andgive their contact information to ourJunior Warden so he can get in touch withthem to let them know about theseevents. A neighbor, brother in law, or co-worker may be interested in Masonry andnot know it yet. A candidate must ask to

become a Mason, but he first needs toknow whom to ask.

With just over 250 members (2014) in thelodge, and around 10% being active mem-bers, I do not see why we can't invite 20-30 people to an Open House. This is aninvite from just one person of the Brotherwho regularly come to the lodge, and lessthan one recommendation from every tenof our members. Of the Brethren invited, itis anticipated that a third will attend. It ishoped that a third of those who attend willpetition the lodge. This should enable usto raise 2-3 new brothers from each openhouse that we conduct. Only 6-8 peoplehave been invited to our last few OpenHouses. Of this, 2-3 have attended and wewould be lucky if one submits an applica-tion. We need to get our numbers up.

Please take the time to think of the peopleyou know whom you feel could benefit thelodge so we may get in touch with them. The lodge is counting on your support andparticipation.

Sincerely and Fraternally

Brian Hartel, Jr.SW Brian Hartel Jr.

With the daffodils in full glory, spring ishere and our yearly march down MainStreet is this month.

Last Memorial Day, TC#5 started a new tradi-tion, a float that had seating for our memberswho would be more comfortable riding thanmarching and our 6 intrepid re-enacters offamous Masons from history in costume.

Judging by the reaction of the spectators, aswell as the participants, it was a great successfor our lodge and a wonderful way to help fur-ther the public’s understanding of some amaz-ing historic figures who helped change theworld, as they sought the light ofFreemasonry.

This year, the roles of Brothers BenjaminFranklin, Mark Twain, Buffalo Bill Cody, DavyCrocket, Douglas MacArthur and John Glennwill again be reprised on our float. There is stillroom and time for anyone who is interested injoining us. Help with ideas and costume pro-curement is available.

We are thinking of the following Masons:George Washington, Buzz Aldrin, LouisArmstrong, James Bowie, Admiral RichardByrd, Roy Clark, Samuel Clemens/MarkTwain, Ty Cobb, Buffalo Bill Cody, GeneralJames Doolittle, Henry Ford, John Glenn,

John Hancock, John Paul Jones, CharlesLindbergh, General Douglas MacArthur,Frederick Maytag, Arnold Palmer, PaulRevere, Eddie Rickenbacker, Franklin D.Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt, HarryTruman, Booker T. Washington, John Wayne.Other suggestions are certainly welcome...and I don't think our float can be completewithout a Mason portraying GeorgeWashington!

Participating brethren would be responsiblefor providing their own costumes. BrotherBob Vecere, Jr. is in charge of the float, soplease contact him for further details andassistance with costumes: Cell phone 609 915-5111 or email [email protected]
