This workshop is designed for

parents of rising seniors

(current 11th graders) to discuss

the college application process,

information from Mr. Brown

the senior class sponsor, an

overview of financial aid, and

details about senior portraits

and purchasing senior ads in

the yearbook. The program will

last about an hour and fifteen

minutes, with each presenter

lasting about 20 minutes. There

will be time for questions after

the presentation is complete.

Welcome

NCAA

Clearinghouse

In order to participate in NCAA ath-letics in college, students must reg-ister with the NCAA during their sen-ior year in high school. Students are encouraged to register on-line at www.ncaa.org. A “Request for Transcript” form must also be filled out and turned into the guidance office as part of the filing process. Students should also meet with their counselors to review NCAA ap-proved core courses.

Dear Parents and Students,

By now I am sure that you have looked at your student’s 3rd quarter report

card. Please continue to encourage your child to strive during the 4th and final

quarter. Ending a school year strongly helps students with their cumulative

GPA. The guidance department will continue working on schedules for next

year, AP exams, SOL tests, scholarships, and graduation status with the LCHS

students this month.

There will be an opportunity for summer school this year. In the past, many

students have taken advantage of summer school to get caught up or even to

get ahead. Please contact the guidance department with any questions

The Keyettes had fantastic results for our 3rd annual fashion show to benefit the cure for Cystic Fibrosis. We raised $1,400, more than any previous fashion show and our attendance was great. Thanks to speakers Ms. Pam Stewart, our own Shelby Rombach, Ms Webster and her two daughters Ryleigh and Madison. Thanks to all of you in the community who donated time and items to make this event a huge success.

LCHS Scholarship

Awards Ceremony

Loudoun County will be hosting its

annual scholarship awards ceremony

for seniors on Friday, June 1st, 2012,

9am-12:00pm, in the auditorium. This

ceremony is an opportunity for LCHS

staff and scholarship sponsors to pre-

sent awards to the 2012 LCHS student

scholarship winners.

Your senior portrait will be taken on either 5/21 or 5/22 in the late afternoon and evening on the auditorium stage. If you do not receive your appointment time in the mail at

home, please call Lifetouch at 800-445-1191 to find out your scheduled time.

For your yearbook pose, girls will wear the drape supplied

by the photographer and boys should wear a dark suit coat

and a dark tie with a white shirt. Lifetouch will provide

the suit coat if you would like.

When you select your yearbook pose online, you must select

a pose with a blue background.

Please feel free to email Mrs. Alt with any questions

about your senior portraits.

AVID 4 students recently organized a multi-generational project with the senior citizens of the Meadow Glen assisted-living residence and the fifth graders at Ca-toctin Elementary School. The AVID students video-taped interviews with the senior citizens speaking about life in the 1950s, when many of them were teen-agers themselves. Then they integrated the inter-views into a multi-media presentation that became part of the hands-on Fabulous Fifties museum. When the fifth graders arrived to visit the museum, they first listened to the school jazz band play foot-tapping tunes from the 50s. Then the students watched the video containing the interviews. After that overview of the decade, students next went into the library to visit the various stations created by the AVID students on the food, fads, music etc. of the

1950s. Each station had a

fun activity for the children to help them

“experience” life back in the time of Elvis and hula-hoops. Everyone involved, from 80 year olds down to 10 year olds, had a great time contributing to the success of the event.

ARTART DEPARTMENDEPARTMENTT NEWSNEWS

Loudoun County Senior, Avery Hare, is working on His Eagle Scout community project. He has decided to make The Senior Activity Center his project. After visiting the center with its’ barren walls and lack of color he decided he would initiate a community re-lationship by putting art into the center and bring color into the senior’s lives. Avery needs your help. He asking for donations of Artwork to be displayed at the Senior Center is dona-tions of Artwork to help beautify the senior center. You may donate the Art or allow your Art to be dis-played and later returned to you. This a great opportunity to help our seniors and one dedicated Boy Scout. Donation boxes are located in the Art rooms 157 and 159. Thanks for any and all help.

E verybody cut “Footloose”! The classic 80’s hit comes to life on the LCHS stage on May 10th, 11th, and 12th. When Ren and his mother move from

Chicago to the small farm town of Bomont, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment pe-riod at his new high school. What he isn’t pre-pared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing in-stituted by the local preacher, who is determined to exercise the control over the town’s youth that he cannot command in his own home. When the reverend’s rebellious daughter, Ariel, sets her sights on Ren, her rough-neck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren’s reputation. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

Loundoun County Presents: “Footloose” brings to-

gether an award-winning score, dy-namic choreography, and a timeless story that celebrates youth and freedom. The cast is led by seniors Chelsea Zeidman (Ariel), Jack No-tar (Rev. Shaw Moore), Grace Ellinghaus (Vi Moore), Carly Machlan (Ethel), Jess DeBoard

(Urleen), and Brielle Davis (Wendy Jo); juniors Andrew McShea (Ren), Kerry Johnson (Rusty), and Tyler Pratt (Chuck Cranston); and sopho-more Dalton Wilson (Willard Hewitt). Performances begin at 7:30pm, and all tickets are $10 at the door.

DECA, an association of marketing students, guided by the direction of marketing teachers, Mrs. Diane Petrella and Mrs. Kristen Parrish who will strive to reach the national DECA goals of preparing the next generation to be Academically Prepared, Community Oriented, Professionally Responsible and Experi-enced Leaders. This year’s club officers are:

AUSTISM AWARENESSAUSTISM AWARENESSAUSTISM AWARENESSAUSTISM AWARENESS

In the month of April we are raising money for Autism Awareness. Every year we raise money to send students at our school who are autistic

to Kings Dominion. At our last DECA meeting we had the Autistic teacher, Mrs. Schonberger, come speak to our chapter. During Mrs. Shonberger’s pres-entation she shared with us how she has started a non-profit organization called Legacy Farms. Their goal at Legacy Farms is to provide career options for autistic kids who graduate from high school. We de-cided that this year instead of supporting the Kings Dominion field trip we will donate our fundraising efforts to Legacy Farms so that the autistic kids at our school will have somewhere to go and work after they graduate.

RELAY FOR LIFE

For the past 6 years LCHS DECA has participated in the American Cancer Soci-ety Western Loudoun Relay for Life. This event will be held at Heritage High School on June 2, 2012. LCHS DECA has volunteered to help run the Relay Recess which will be tar-geted for elementary aged kids to participate in Relay for Life and learn about how to fur-ther protect their bodies to hopefully prevent Cancer. Currently we have 18 people on our relay team and have raised over $3,000!

The Raider Trader is operated by Marketing Education and is open each morning from 8:25-8:50.

We offer a wide variety of beverages and snacks, school supplies, as well as Raider spirit wear

and spirit items.

MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION

During the month of March, our chapter fundraised for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. We sold green and gold shamrocks and held a back sale on our last day of fundraising. In addition to these acti-vates, we also donated one day of the School Store sales. Collectively we raised $161 that will go to sending children who suffer from Muscular Dystro-phy to a 2 week summer camp where they will be able to participate in activities that they wouldn’t nor-mally be able to do. These activities include fishing, horseback riding, and swimming.
