Each year, some students venture out into the city for off-campus housing which can be an intimidating and uneasy process for many. We have developed multiple web based off-campus housing resources, which include the Off-Campus Housing Guide and the Moving and Living Off-Campus Webinars to accommodate those with busy schedules.

All of these resources can be found at american.edu/offcampushousing. If you would like to set up an appointment for an individual consultation please email the Off-Campus & Guest Housing Coordinator at [email protected].

Considering Moving Off-Campus?

End of Semester Move-Out Information

While it is hard to imagine packing up your belongings to prepare for move out, a little planning can go a long way. Keep the following things in mind as the end of the semester approaches.

Plan Your Move-Out Arrangements: The residence halls will close at 12pm on Wednesday, May 7 for undergraduate students (or 24 hours after your last exam, whichever occurs first).

Packages: Tuesday, May 6, 2014 will be the last day that mail and packages are accepted for Spring 2014 resident students. Any packages not picked up from the residence hall front desks by Wednesday, May 7 at 12pm will be returned to the package sender. Be on the look-out for information from Mail Services in the coming days about forwarding your US Postal Service mail.

MicroFridge Rentals: You will receive an email from the vendor on how to defrost and clean your MicroFridge before it is picked up. MicroFridge pick-ups will occur between May 7-May 9.

Lockbox Rentals: If you have rented a lockbox for the 2013-2014 academic year, please make sure your unit is cleared of all personal belongings prior to pick-up. The vendor will be collecting all rented units between May 7- May 9.

Want More Information?: If you have questions after reading the information, please talk with your RA to make sure that you follow the proper steps for moving out of the residence halls. You can also check out our move-out infomation website here.

2014 Project Move-OutAs you start planning your move out of your residence hall room, team up with Housing & Dining Programs, Facilities Management and the Office of Sustainability for our 4th Annual Project Move-Out!

Students are welcomed to donate unopened food, toiletries, clothing, electronics, office supplies, small furniture items and small kitchen appliances. All items benefit local DC charities. Collection units will be placed on each floor of the residence halls starting May 2 through May 7; Cassell and Nebraska halls collection units will be out from May 2 through May 12.

Summer Storage for AU Students Summer storage is a popular option for students looking for a way to store their belongings for the summer months. Housing and Dining Programs is pleased to partner with The UPS Store to provide safe and convenient storage for all AU students. The service is called AU Storage. The UPS Store has been on campus since 1987. They provide in-room delivery when students return in August. Stored student items are placed in a student's assigned room before they return to school. Their belongings will be the first thing they see when they open their dorm room door next semester! For more information about summer storage, please visit the AU Storage website.
