• Students taking STAAR, STAAR L, and STAAR Modified administrations may be grouped across programs, grades, and subject areas or courses in some cases.
• Students are not allowed to return to a subject-area assessment attempted on a previous test day or to work on a subject-area assessment that has not yet been administered (Gr. 5-8 has 1 book, 2 subjects).

Proper Testing Procedures
Test sessions must be conducted under the best possible conditions.
Follow the procedures listed under Proper Testing Procedures to ensure the security and confidentiality of the assessment program and the uniform evaluation of all students throughout the state.
If a situation arises that you do not know how to resolve, contact your campus coordinator.

Proper Testing Procedures
A trained test administrator must be present in the testing room at all times during the administration –

Students must remain seated during testing - no talking while tests are open.
Prepare the Testing Environment
• Each student should be sufficiently separated from other students to work without distraction.

• A “Testing—Do Not Disturb” sign should be posted outside the testing room.
• Bulletin boards and instructional displays that might be a source of direct answers must be covered or removed during testing.
• A clock or stop watch must be available to monitor the four-hour time period.

Make sure that all desks are cleared of books and other materials that are not required for the test.

The use of cell phones and/or other personal electronic devices that allow Internet access are not permitted during testing.
It is permissible to encourage students to stay on task.

Proper Testing Procedures
• Students must be reminded periodically to record their responses on their answer documents. Test administrators may say, “Remember that you must record your responses on the answer document.”
• Only students are allowed to erase their stray marks or darken answer-choice circles, and only during the scheduled test session. Test administrators may say, “Be sure to erase any stray marks that you might have accidentally made on your answer document.”

Reinforcing, reviewing for, and/or distributing testing strategies during an assessment is strictly prohibited.

Each student must be allowed four hours in which to take the test - starting after the test administrator has read directions.

Communicate (orally or in writing) the amount of time left to test in one-hour intervals and, if desired, in shorter intervals during the last hour. This must be done even if the students have Extra Time.
Once the four-hour time period has ended, test administrators will instruct any students still testing to either put their pencils down and close their test booklets or stop their online tests. May 2014
Seating Charts
• Start and end time for the test session must be recorded on the seating chart.
• Seating charts must include the names of students testing and the students’ locations in the room.
• The names of all test administrators/monitors involved in the session must be included on the seating chart.

Linguistic Accommodations
Talk to students who will be receiving linguistic accommodations prior to the test session to let them know how their test will be conducted and the types of assistance they are eligible to receive. Linguistic Accommodations
• Bilingual dictionary (word/phrase translation dictionary): A bilingual dictionary is a specialized standard dictionary used to translate words (and sometimes common phrases) from one language to another. Bilingual dictionaries are typically bidirectional so that the user can look up words in either language to find translations.

Extended Time Accommodations
■ The extra time (same day) accommodation is for eligible students with disabilities and ELLs.

Ensure That the Same Test Form Is Used When conducting an oral administration of a paper assessment in which the test administrator reads all test questions and answer choices throughout the test, the test administrator MUST have a test booklet with the same form number as the students. • For STAAR and STAAR Spanish (except for STAAR Spanish grade 5 science), use Form 01 - if this is not available, MAKE SURE FORM NUMBERS MATCH. • For STAAR Modified and STAAR Spanish grade 5 science, there is only one form.
