Worrying is for the Birds...Well, on second thought.

Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns,

and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? (Matthew 6:26)

There is this robin, this crazy robin, who desperately wants to get in my home. This persistent bird believes with all its little bird brain that it can make it through the glass pane (which has not yet been cleaned of its winter grime) in to where it is cozy and warm. And I don't blame this determined little bird because as I write this, that robin surely has cold toes from being out in the latest April snow. Poor birdie. And as much as I feel for that tireless robin, as it pings against my window time and time again, I see too that it is cared for. Its belly is, in fact, quite large. And the snow soon will melt. It's not in any need. May is a busy month. And with all the frenetic activity that comes with this month, we can easily become obsessed with the details of our lives and give our minds over to worry. The verse that precedes the verse above says plainly, "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear (vs. 25)." That's pretty straight forward. It goes on to say basically that worrying is for the birds. It brings no gain whatsoever. Instead we are to "strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (vs 33)." Perhaps to put it simply we could paraphrase saying, take a breath and put first things first. Faithful God, your eye is on the sparrow...and the robin...and each one of us, too. Give us the grace to trust in your care for us. Amen. Peace to you in these busy times, Pastor Krahn To contact Pastor Krahn, call the church office at 608-837-3111 or email [email protected].

Making Sense of the Christian Faith Adult Study

Questions, questions! We've all got questions. But when it comes to studying about faith we don't want to appear lacking, so we stay away. This video-based study gets at the basics of faith but still takes us into thoughtful conversations. You are welcome to join us for discussion on topics such as the church, the Holy Spirit, the incarnation, community and more. Stop in any Sunday at 9:15 and enjoy with us great community and conversation.

Thank You, Quilters A big thank you to the Quilters of Our Savior's for making two quilts for Sunday School. At our Sunday School openings, we sit on the floor in the fellowship area on blankets while we sing and pray. And now we have two beautiful quilts gracing our space. Thank you, Quilters! Last Sunday School Rotation of Year The Sunday School children are in the last rotation of the school year: Soar with the Holy Spirit - Jesus, Outcasts & the Holy Spirit. The children are doing a variety of fun activities, like making "outcast" cookies, collages, and learning how to square dance, as they also learn about the Holy Spirit and some of the "outcasts" from the Bible, like Zacchaeus. The last day of Sunday School is May 18th. Sunday School Registration The registration form for next year's Sunday School (2014-2015) will be available in early May. Watch for it on the Ministry Opportunities Table and elsewhere. Be sure to register your child early because some classes fill

up.

This 90 minute class includes the institution of Baptism by Jesus, the meaning of Baptism, and the role of parents and sponsors in nurturing their children in faith. Participants can sign up on the Ministry Opportunity Table or call the office. Childcare is available.

Summer Stretch 2014

Summer Stretch is a summer mission awareness program for youth completing 6th and 7th grades. Starting June 18 on Wednesdays during a 5 week stretch, youth will be responsible for Christ-centered ministry at many different mission sites throughout Dane County. After completing a morning of hands-on mission work, an afternoon of fun awaits the youth and adult chaperones (mini-golf at Vitense, Duck riding at the Dells, etc.) The program culminates on the fifth week with a day-long fun activity. Lunch is provided by the participating churches. T-shirts and transportation are included in the $90 registration fee. Registration forms have been emailed to you during the month of April. Download one at oslc-elca.org or pick up an extra form in the office. Early registration deadline is May 14.

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Parlor Dining on Dewey St Held the second Saturday of each month, Parlor Dining on Dewey Street is a great way to meet new people, connect to members of Our Savior's and

the community, and do some good! For $25/person,

guests get a 4-course meal, an evening out, and

great conversation (and 100% of your donation

goes to the ELCA Malaria Campaign!) Each month's experience will create an atmosphere and cuisine centered on a different theme, with the next meal "Cinco de Mayo" taking place on

May 10. Want to know more? See Brett, check out the display in the

narthex, and email Brett at [email protected] to reserve your spot!
