THE TEBOW CURE HOSPITAL IS OPEN!

May 2015Page 1

The long-awaited day finally arrived: the Tebow CURE Hospital is officially open!

The grand opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the hospital on May 1st, followed by an open house. In attendance were Dale Brantner, President & CEO of CURE International, along with representatives of the Tim Tebow Foundation, the Tebow family, the Sacred Harvest Foundation, the City of Davao, the U.S. Embassy, USAID, and the Philippines Department of Health.

“We’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time,” said Brantner. “After many years of prayer and much hard work, I am thrilled to be able to say the Tebow CURE Hospital is officially open! In this place, we will share the love of Jesus and bring physical healing to children and families who desperately need it.”

The hospital, which began treating patients late last year, specializes in pediatric orthopedics, providing charitable treatment to children with conditions like knock knees, bowed legs, and neglected clubfoot. The Tebow CURE Hospital also provides competitively priced orthopedic consultations and surgery for adults in need of total joint replacements or arthroscopic surgery, as well as treatment for spine conditions and sports injuries.

“We’re excited to be open for business in Davao City, and we’re grateful for the strong support from the community, our donors, and other partners to make this project a reality,” said Leron Lehman, Executive Director of the hospital. “We are already providing life-changing surgeries to children with physical disabilities and are excited about the opportunity we have to make a difference.”

The Tebow CURE Hospital features a Timmy’s Playroom, a special space set aside where children who are patients at the hospital can take a break from medical treatment and enjoy being a kid. The playroom was decorated and equipped by the Tim Tebow Foundation, honoring Philippines-born athlete Tim Tebow. It is the sixth Timmy’s Playroom to open and the first to open outside of the United States.

“The Tim Tebow Foundation is so honored to be working with CURE International and so many incredible donors to make this hospital a reality,” said Erik Dellenback, Executive Director of the Tim Tebow Foundation. “Tim, who was born in the Philippines, has always had great passion for this country and its amazing people.”

First envisioned in 2009, construction on The Tebow CURE Hospital began in 2012. The hospital received its license in November 2014 and saw its first surgery in December 2014.

Please join us in praising God for His goodness and faithfulness as we celebrate opening our 10th hospital!

AFRICA

ETHIOPIAPeople from the Afar region of Ethiopia visited the hospital this past month. The Afar people are considered an unreached people group. The JESUS film opened up a great opportunity to explain who Jesus is and what it means to worship Him, and they were open to hearing more. Please pray for our spiritual ministry team in Ethiopia as they plan to visit Afar to train missionaries who work in the villages, and pray also for the hearts of this people group to be drawn to the Lord.

KENYAA recent school holiday brought local children to the CURE Kenya playground in search of some fun. As a result, kids from the community had a chance to play with our patients at the hospital – a positive experience for both parties! They listened to Bible stories, watched children’s movies, and played on the playground together. Some received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and others memorized and recited Bible verses. We praise God for this opportunity to minister to both the kids in our hospitals and the kids in the communities we serve!

MALAWILisnert, pictured left, doesn’t know how she hurt her hip, but knows all too well the pain it has caused her ever since. She loves school, but had to stop going because the two-hour walk there and back was far too much to bear. However, after two surgeries at CURE Malawi, Lisnert has been inspired to become a nurse, and plans to return to her studies as soon as she is able to walk pain-free again. Lisnert was also inspired to deepen her relationship with Jesus through spiritual ministry at the hospital and now counts reading her Bible among her favorite activities! Please pray for Lisnert to continue to heal and grow in her walk with the Lord.

NIGERArt therapist Julie Korn has been painting casts for a long time, but Hamsatou, pictured right, came to her with a slightly different request. During a follow-up appointment after her casts had been removed, she asked for her legs to be painted. As Julie said, “It’s as though she had been planning to get her legs painted ever since she knew she would be coming back to the hospital to have closure with this experience.” We praise God for the wisdom of these little ones and celebrate healing alongside them!

UGANDAElijah and his mom, Farida, had to wait for his condition to stabalize before surgery for hydrocephalus could be performed without putting him at risk for further complications. This is the case for many patients who come to CURE in various states of health. Some need treatment for existing conditions while others need simple nourishment. Please pray for good health for all of our patients, both before and after surgery!

ZAMBIAGordon, pictured right, began to cry after his initial consultation at CURE Zambia. Concerned, we asked why he was crying. He answered that he was crying tears of joy. He had previously been told that the only way to correct his severe clubfoot would involve losing his foot, but the doctors at CURE Zambia told him his foot could be restored through surgery. Gordon just recently had his last cast removed and is now walking on two straight feet! We praise God for the healing that has taken place for Gordon and so many other children at CURE Zambia.
