Message from the Office
Classes For September
The staffing process for a new school year always continues through the summer and often requires “fine
tuning” during the first weeks of September. Staff changes may be occurring over the course of the next two
months and new registrations over the summer impact class cap sizes and therefore student placement and
the school organization. When we organize classes, a great deal of consideration goes into the placement of
students for the next year. Where there is more than one grade, the staff takes into account the children’s
needs in order to provide an appropriate academic and social environment. Regarding class placement, if
your child has any significant learning/education needs which you feel should be considered, be sure to con-
tact the principal in writing stating these factors no later than May 31st. Class placements will not be an-
nounced until the new school year, in September .

We’d like to take this opportunity to truly and sincerely thank our GAG School Council (SC). The SC meets
monthly to discuss the learning agenda and the direction of the school. Parents are always welcome to join
us. You do not have to be a “member”, nor sit on any committees. You may simply come, listen and hear
what we have to say. Currently our discussions are focused on our gym rejuvenation, fun fair , our parent
climate survey online and our PRO Grant application. Please join us at our next SC meeting on Wednesday ,
May 24 at 6:30 pm in our Learning Commons.
Please put Friday, June 2 on your calendars for FUN FAIR!! This has always been a big tradition for GAG and
a source of funding for us. It will be a great way to celebrate the conclusion of EQAO!.
Also, the Hairy Challenge is coming quickly on June 12 and Mrs. Lehne may very well lose her pony tail if we
reach 30 pony tails donated!!
EQAO testing will run from Tuesday, May 23—Friday May 26 for our Grade 3 students. It will run from Mon-
day May 29--Friday June 2 for our Grade 6 students. Please do not book any appointments during this time if
at all possible. A healthy breakfast and lots of rest would also be beneficial. Thank you for your support in
advance!
Our Volunteer Tea will be held after our Co operation assembly on Wednesday May 3rd at noon. We hope
you will join us for our assembly beforehand at 11:20 a.m.

This year’s Glynn A. Green Track and Field Meet will take place on Tuesday, May 2. We are hoping not to need a rain date, but, if needed it will be Monday, May 8. If not, the 1500 m event and the peewee long jump will take place on Monday, May 8. All students from grades 3 to 8 are expected to participate. If your son/daughter is unable to participate due to any reason: illness, injury, etc., please provide his/her teacher with a letter excusing him/her from participation. A work package will be supplied by his/her homeroom teacher and supervision will be provided from a Glynn A. Green staff member who is not involved with the Track and Field meet. Events will commence at 9:30 and run until approximately 3:10. NO canopies OR TENTS will be allowed to be set up due to safety and supervision concerns. Students will not be permitted to play music during the day as it prevents them from hearing announcements being made. Be sure your son/daughter is dressed for the weather (hat, t-shirt, shorts, proper running shoes, layers of clothes to combat the cold, and sun-screen).

Math Olympics
This year eight intermediate students, Christine, Ben, Jeff, Tessa, Owen, Maiya, Hailey and Adam were selected to represent Glynn A Green at the annual Math Olympiad at Club Roma. During the event, these students competed in three different contests. The individual, group and team relay (no,running shoes were not required!) against 72 other teams from both the Public and Catholic school boards. After one event, one of our teams of four students had the second highest team to-tal, but they were quickly surpassed by our other team by the end of the second event. With tre-mendous teamwork and perseverance the teams placed 5
th and 6
th overall, and were only separat-
ed by 3 points. When you think about how hard it is to be a top 10 team, it is remarkable to think that we had TWO teams in the top six. Awesome job Gators! Thank you to everyone who tried out this year and congratulations to all of our “Mathletes” who competed in this year's competition. You all did a fantastic job. Can't wait to do it again next year! Thank you Mr. Campbell!!
Junior Basketball
The Junior Girls recently completed their basketball season. Playing in Tier 1 in league play the team met
solid teams that often had many experienced players. Despite this the Gators always tried their best and
gave a few teams a good run. The Girls always conducted themselves in a manner that demonstrated
sportsmanship and fair play. They were positive and lis-
tened closely to their coaches in all practices and games.
They showed marked improvement in their skills and
understanding of the game. Thanks to Hannah S and
Maiya B for helping coach the team. Thanks also goes
out to all the individuals who helped with scorekeeping
throughout the season. Team members are: Mia O, Ava
C, Rowan S, Maddie L, Ella B, Nasma R, Olivia W, Skye N,
Juliette F, Madison M, Aryanna G, Jinja S. and Mrs.
Lehne
Jr Boys Basketball will be reported on in June as they
are still in their post season...Go Boys Go!!
Smoke Alarm Poster Winners
Vanessa L and Julianne M were Chiefs for a day and went on a firetruck ride as our
school’s winners for the Pelham Fire Department’s “Smoke Alarms Save Lives” poster
contest.

Message from our Public Health Nurse
Ticks, mosquitos and rabid animals have no boundaries and can be a risk when walking to and from school, waiting at the bus stop, school trips or while playing on school property.
Mosquitoes transmit the West Nile virus to humans after becoming infected by feeding on the blood of birds, which carry the virus. For more information vis-it:www.niagararegion.ca/living/health_wellness/wnv/
The black- legged (deer) tick transmits Lyme disease to humans after becoming infected by feed-ing on the blood of small animals which carry the disease.
www.niagararegion.ca/living/health_wellness/disease-prevent/lyme-disease.aspx
Rabies is transmitted through saliva from bites and scratches, entering an open cut or wound, or from saliva contacting a mucous membrane, such as those in the mouth, nasal cavity or eyes.
www.niagararegion.ca/living/health_wellness/disease-prevent/rabies.aspx
Presently, all of these diseases exist in Niagara. Niagara Region Public Health is strongly encourag-ing all school principals to please pass this infor-mation onto teachers, students and parents.
