Annual Plant Sale - May 4th

The Poulsbo Garden Club Plant Sale is happening Saturday,May 4th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at 19801 Viking Avenue (theold James Lumber/new Advanced Rentals site). Manywonderful plants at very reasonable prices will be available --come rain or shine, the sale is on! This is your chance to kickstart your garden as the club offers perennials, annuals,bushes, bulbs, vegetable starts, garden art, and more--

something for everyone. The event is free and everyone isinvited. Money raised is given back to the community asgrants for gardening projects.

Viking Fest Road Race - May 18th

Forest Rock Lane Pavement Project

Our first construction project of 2019 is expected to beginMay 23rd and wrap up near the end of July. This project willrebuild the road base, install trench drains, and thicken asphaltto improve the road. The road will be upgraded from theCentral Market entrance to Caldart Avenue.

This is the first Full Depth Reclamation type of project for theCity. The existing road and base is pulverized and used tobuild the new road section on top of it. This means the projectreuses material, reduces the work and material required by thecontractor, and shortens the duration of the project. The

During construction a portion of Forest Rock Lane will beclosed for the duration of the project. The portion of theclosed road does not have any driveways on it; however, therewill be no access during construction.

Finn Hill Shared Use Path: As part of our transportationplan, the City is looking to enhance pedestrian andbicycle safety. We are teaming up with Kitsap County tocreate a safer shared use path along Finn Hill towardsVinland Elementary. Designs have begun and we arehoping to advertise for construction in late spring toearly summer 2019.SR305, Raab Park, and 11th Ave Manhole Project: Inconjunction with our previous sewer rehab projects, thisone will reline and replace our current sewer pipes onparts of SR305, 11th Ave, and through Raab Park(summer 2019)

West Sound Chapter Representative, recently submitted thePoulsbo Pump Track's 2018 annual report. While they've dealtwith a bit of vandalism over the past year, volunteers and thePoulsbo Police Department have handled those issues. According to the report, "Regularly there are half a dozenusers at the park, usually after work hours or on weekends...Thepast year we redesigned and rebuilt a portion of the trackwith all volunteer labor. There continues to be a core group ofvolunteers who continue to work at the track as needed...Thisyear we improved the bio retention bond to prevent run offon the neighboring property. We also improved the drains toimprove drainage after heavy rains. We will continue tomonitor drainage issues at the park after heavy rains."Their biggest success was "Pumpapalooza: On 10 September2018...[we] held the 'Pumpapalooza.' This free event had over50 children in attendance. The participants' bikes we safetychecked and minor repairs were completed as required. EMBAinstructors were on hand to reach these young riders basicriding techniques to include cornering and pumping, whichare vital to safe and enjoyable trail riding."

Mayor Becky Erickson is an EconomicDevelopment Champion

Mayor Becky Erickson was awarded the EconomicDevelopment Champion Public Sector by Kitsap EconomicDevelopment Alliance (KEDA) at its annual luncheon meetingon Friday, March 29th at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino.

Presented by County Commissioner Ed Wolfe and City CouncilMemeber Ed Stern, Mayor Erickson was surprised andexpressed her appreciation, while acknowledging that it takespartnerships - between City Council, the public, staff, and theprivate sector - to create change.

The award created by Lisa Stirrett, locally well-known GlassArtist, is a Viking Sword, similar to the glass art sculpture "TheGuardian Stone" Lisa created for Poulsbo's Muriel WilliamsWaterfront Park in 2016.

Congratulations to Mayor Erickson for her award!
