What do you like best about living in Cave Creek? The friends we have made who have become our very special chosen family. And also the views! No matter where you live in Cave Creek, there are beautiful vistas.

How are you involved with the community? I have been involved with Desert Foothills Theater (DFT) either performing as a jazz musician or help-ing with fundraising events. Next month, on June 23, I will be providing “An Evening of Jazz” at the Holland Community Center. These are my favorite types of performances for DFT because I have the opportunity to “snuggle up” with fellow community jazz lovers to help create a very special, intimate, musical experience. When you’re not singing, what else fills your time? I have my own marketing firm where I pri-marily work with the music and entertainment and elder healthcare industries – two very deliberately selected industries that absolute-ly fill my heart. My clients include actors, GRAMMY Award-winning musicians and producers, dancers, record labels, performance venues, and even Mr. Olympia bodybuilders! And thanks to the inspiration from my loving grandma, my clients also include those working in and receiv-ing services from elder healthcare (particularly dementia and cognitive impairment). I also provide an inter-active Musical Memory Care Work-shop for those living with dementia and/or cognitive impairment, along with their care partners.

What do you like to do for fun? I am a Harley-riding, competitive bodybuilding jazz musician, public speaker, and advocate who likes to sew, antique hunt, ride horses,

travel, lay tile, hang drywall, and help people with their memory and Parkinson’s conditions.

Favorite restaurant: Cave Creek’s Janey’s Café and The Grotto.

The song I would sing at karaoke night: “Sweet Child of Mine” by Guns & Roses. Shannon Wallace and her husband John Knell have lived in Cave Creek for 15 years.

A favorite movie I could never get tired of watching and why: Moonstruck; I am Italian and every ounce of that movie reminds me of the Italian side of my family. “Snap out of it!”

Do you have any coveted collections? Vintage shoe clips! I own over 50 pairs for my nearly 250 pairs of shoes (mostly stilettos).

Favorite holiday tradition: Every other Christ-mas, my husband John and I spend the holiday in North Dakota (where he is from and where his family will always be). Although it is dreadfully cold there during that time of year, growing up in sunny Southern California does not lend itself to a bona-fide “white Christmas”; so, I am always delighted to watch the snow fall from the windows while sitting by a toasty North Dakotan fireplace.

Skill you would like to improve? Giving grace. I have come a long way, but there’s always nev-er-ending self-improvement work to do.

People who have made a difference in your life?My husband is my most favorite human on the planet. We’ve been together for 22 years. He has such a lovely and kind calming effect and I am delighted he still loves me through my sometimes whirling dervish personality!

My recently deceased paternal grandmother was also an incredible influence on me. Talk about unconditional love! Grams was 98 years old when she passed this past Thanksgiving Day and she was the ultimate peas to my carrots. I miss her terribly.

What’s the story about how your pet became yours? I met Luna at a foster home and and immediately fell in love with her. Within a week, my husband Mike and I adopted her and she came to our home, joining our other Maltese pups Lily and Linus.

What funny/weird quirks does your pet have? Luna, like most Maltese, has a sudden urge to run a racetrack around our home multiple times a day until she’s completely worn out. She loves to do this with a toy in her mouth! She loves to walk all over you and around the house with her toy in her mouth as though she’s “strutting her stuff”. She can’t go anywhere without her toy in her mouth.

How spoiled is your pet? Luna--like our other two pups--is treated as our child because we do not have kids. Our pups are our kids and are very spoiled…they are so very loved by us.

Is there anything else we should know about your pet? Luna is our miracle dog. Within a week of bringing Luna home, our vet diagnosed her with a heart defect. Without surgery, she would not have lived past her first birthday. So Luna underwent four hours of extremely delicate surgery to remedy the defect in her tiny body (weighing less than two pounds at that time!). Her birthday was this past March and she is going gangbusters due to the awesome work of her surgical team!

“I Walked on the Moon” is the name of a bit comedian Brian Regan famous-ly performs about his social fantasy of being one of the astronauts who walked on the moon so that his expe-rience could beat anyone’s story at a dinner party.

“I’ve met astronauts who’ve walked on the moon” is something Cave Creek resident and Cave Creek Living cover photographer Timon Harper can ac-tually claim at a dinner party—a close second to Regan’s fantasy. Timon has met Buzz Aldrin and Pete Conrad (two of the 12 who have walked the moon) as well as several other well-known astronauts like Buzz Aldrin, John Glenn, and Sally Ride.

Photographing high-profile people like astronauts, U.S. presidents, senators, governors, and ambassadors at their events is all in a day’s work for Timon. (See a sampling at Timon-HarperPhotography.pixieset.com.) He’s developed a rapport with these circles dating back to the early ‘90s when he first started shooting at political rallies in downtown Phoenix. Since then, he’s been one of the go-to political photographers in Arizona, specializing in capturing moments quickly and efficiently—skills that Timon says are essential when pho-tographing important people on the move.

Other important people Timon makes time for are his hometown residents in Cave Creek. He regularly shoots graduates, families, events, and headshots.

For Cave Creek Living magazine and event photography, his work has been exceptional and I’ve been particularly impressed with his use of light and his ability to capture clear photos with accurate facial tones.

“I like going to the events to talk to people and be involved with the community. I like seeing the final product when the magazine comes out,” said Timon.

At the Fiesta Bowl Parade in downtown Phoenix, Right Honda partnered Canine Companions for Independence as a parade participant. Their entry featured a sea of white Labrador service dogs accompanied by their handlers or foster family. It was my first opportunity to meet some of the handlers.

If you are ever at Right Honda on the first Tuesday of the month, you might wonder why are there so many service dogs in our customer lounge. It’s because, as a part of our support for Canine Companions for Independence, we opened up the dealership to be used as a training facility for the service dogs.

Canine Companions for Independence places potential service dogs with a foster family at approximately 10 weeks old to start off on their journey to become a licensed service animal. These pupsrequire one to two years of training to become a service dog fully trained in public access skills.

As the director of philanthropy for Right Honda and Toyota, I have set out on a journey to learn more about a charity’s needs and mission, and to use my expertise to host community fund-raising campaigns that increase awareness for smaller charities in the valley. I don’t expect a return on investment for our giving. I have always felt that it will eventually come organically and is not measured in dollars and cents.

The training cost for these service dogs is over $45,000. Right Honda is honored to play a small role in helping to prepare the pups to help people who have disabilities such as visual

impairment, hearing impairments, mental disorders (such as post-traumatic stress disorder), seizures, and mobility impairment. When a handler is approved for a service dog, they pay absolutely zero cost to obtain the life-changing gift.
