RESIDENT SPOTLIGHT Ruth Elaine Simo (“Elaine”) Ruth Elaine Simo “Elaine” was born in Lincoln Park, MI. Her favorite childhood memory is receiving a grand opportunity to play the flute/piccolo for her Junior Symphony. She also enjoyed spending a lot of time at the National Music Camp. Ruth loved dancing lessons, playing the flute and piccolo, and swimming as a child. She was a lifeguard at age 12. Ruth met her husband while attending the same childhood church. Her best friend was his sister and they all grew up together. While growing up, Ruth’s Aunt Ruth was always her role model. Obviously Ruth was named after her and they both share a big passion for quilting along with a lot of other talents as well! e biggest one is quilting, though, and they absolutely love it. Ruth went to college and worked at a lot of business and administration jobs while moving to various states. She has lived in Michigan, Wyoming, Colorado, and Flagstaff, Arizona. She has also done numerous clerical jobs and had her own clerical business in Wyoming. She was also the Clerk of Court for the Magistrate. She had her husband have four children and four grandchildren. She has two son-in-laws in the Air Force as well. She is most proud of her daughter, Myndi, who has started picking up quilting and helping out the community by making masks and donating them during this COVID-19 crisis, “she has a heart of gold”, states Ruth. Her dearest memory is when her and her husband built their very own log cabin after retirement on the Kenai River in Sterling, Alaska. Ruth enjoys her 1-on-1, quilting in her room, music, friends, and bible study with the ladies in H9. MAY 2020 4211 N.
