MAY 21 & 22 DOWNTOWN SPRINGFIELDSATURDAY 10AM - 5PM Sunday 10am - 4pm
PRESENTED BY

It is my honor to welcome you to the 55th Springfield Old
Capitol Art Fair presented by PNC Bank. As Chair of this year’s
event, I would like to welcome and thank you for attending this
State of the Art Fair. What began as a one-day event in 1961
has since evolved into a weekend festival that continues to
be fully coordinated by an all-volunteer board of directors. The dedication of this
board, as well as the overwhelming support of the Springfield community, is what
keeps the Old Capitol Art Fair a remarkably successful event, year after year.
I am proud to announce that we have approximately 160 juried artists from around
the country attending this year’s Fair. Festivalgoers can browse among the artists’
offerings and purchase the perfect piece that suits their personality. The Children’s
Tent is stocked with a variety of artwork for our young patrons to admire, purchase,
and begin a lifelong love of art. The community project returns for its sixth year,
and we invite all ages to be a part of creating a mural to be proudly displayed in
Springfield. To enhance the festive atmosphere of the Fair, we offer a variety of
musical acts and culinary delights, including expanded beer and wine options. I
also invite you to the lobby of the Old State Capitol to view the artwork from our
talented Student Award winners from Sangamon County.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our donors and sponsors, including
our generous in-kind sponsors, the numerous volunteers who keep this Fair
running smoothly, the Old State Capitol Foundation for the use of the Capitol
grounds, local businesses, and the City of Springfield. Finally, I would personally
like to thank the entire SOCAF board of directors who works tirelessly to ensure
that this Springfield tradition remains State of the Art.
Enjoy the fair.

The Springfield Old Capitol Art Fair presents six $600 awards annually to graduating high school seniors for their outstanding portfolios of artistic work. Please visit the lobby of the Old State Capitol during the Fair weekend to view these portfolios. For a list of winning students, please visit our website at socaf.org.
STUDENT AWARDS
The Community Project made its debut at the Springfield Old Capitol Art Fair’s 50th Anniversary in 2011. This project was envisioned to be an interactive event for Fair patrons of all ages. The Community Project Chair selects a piece of artwork from an invited artist that will be both fun and interesting to replicate. Everyone at the Fair is invited to participate in the creation of the mural by painting a tile (while they last). Patrons are then able to watch the mural come together piece by piece over the Fair weekend. The finished product is then displayed in a public space in Springfield for one year.
COMMUNITY PROJECT
For the past 55 years, the Springfield Old Capitol Art Fair has purchased selected works from artists who participate in the Fair. Now numbering more than 200 pieces, these works are located in Springfield’s civic buildings.
