SISTER FELICIA’S RETIREMENT

Sr. Felicia Gross is retiring after 26 years of serving us here at St. Christopher’s as Director of Religious Ed-ucation. Sister instituted the Liturgy of the Word for Children at the 9:30am Mass and our Rite of Christian Initiation for Children program. She managed both the babysitting co-op and Early Childhood Education Pro-gram, both of which ran many years. She has provided Catechetical classes for grades 1 through 6, and coordi-nated our Junior High School classes. She has trained catechists and teachers for 400 students per year. Sister has made a huge impact on St. Christopher’s Parish. We are so appreciative of her time and here dedication to our parish and our children. Her caring and devo-tion have shone through all these years. She will always be remembered as the hardworking, committed, and friendly person. She has been an inspiration and model for all of us in her passion for the work of teaching and serving others. We hope Sister will enjoy her retirement and find many fulfilling things to enjoy, but we know she will always find a way to serve others. “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” (Mother Theresa) Sister Felicia has done just that.

Please join us in celebrating a Mass of Thanksgiving and Farewell for Sr. Felicia on Sunday, June 4th at 12:30pm followed by a luncheon in Healy Hall. Please come and show your gratitude and send her off with well wishes.

From Sr. Felicia:

“Your presence is important to me, please no personal gifts. If you want to give me something please make a donation For the Sisters in Tanzania, who work with the lepers. You can send the donation to the Parish office in care of Sr. Felicia For the Sisters in Tanzania, who work with the lepers. This would please me."

Volunteer Opportunity: Ladies' Guild needs helpers for Sr . Felicia's Celebration reception on June 4th. Please sign up in advance if you are able to help.

Christian Meditation As taught by Father John Main O.S.B.

Thursday June 1st, at 7pm

“Be still and know that I am God”. In prep-aration for the Feast of Pentecost you are warmly invited to participate in the ancient tradition and practice of silent Christian med-itation which brings us to that place of inner silence where “we are simply being with God who is in us in the Holy Spirit whom Jesus has given us” (John Main). We will be meet-ing in Church at 7pm on Thursday, June 1st. Christian meditation is a prayer of faith. “It is more important to experience its power in our lives than to try to understand or explain it”, so let us deepen our spiritual life by join-ing together to meditate as we await the beau-tiful Feast of Pentecost and the coming of the Holy Spirit. The format for our meetings is very simple and will consist of gathering together, fol-lowed by a poem, a reading and a prayer. We will listen to a recording of John Main for about 10 minutes then a couple of minutes of gentle music, before meditating together for 20 minutes. We will conclude with some more gentle music and candlelight prayers. This invitation is extended with much love to all who have come to previous meditations and also to anyone who has never meditated before. All are welcome – no experience required.

Registration for 2017-2018 Session: Registration for all students is currently underway; forms are available on line at www.saintchris.com or at the Msgr. Allen Center. Please return these as soon as possible in order to secure a spot for your child for next year’s session. Please call if you have any questions.

Support Group for Caregivers Thursday June 1, 2017

Santa Teresa Parish 794 Calero Ave San Jose 7:00 pm-8:30pm (conference room) follow pathway left of Parish Office

Who's taking CARE of the Caregiver? Are You or someone you know a Caregiver who is... . . . Helping a family member struggling with the Ups & Downs of life? . . . Feeling lonely, frustrated, discouraged, unappreci-ated, maybe a little angry? . . . OR, even guilty for feeling unable to speak up for what you really want, need or deserve? Because you are not the one sick? . . . And feeling invisible and don't know how to be-come visible or validated? Holy Family Parish and Santa Teresa Parish have started a support group for Caregivers who are experi-encing and going thru overwhelming challenges, con-flicting emotions, questions and doubts of "Am I enough and who's taking care of me?” "Should I speak up, really?" If you are interested or know of someone who may be interested, please join us or Contact Gina Masero at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Attention 8th Grade Students and Parents!!

Once again this year the St Christopher’s Over 50’s Club will be offering two $500 scholarships - one to a graduating 8th grade boy and the other to a graduating 8th grade girl who plan to attend a Catholic or Chris-tian High School. Soon your teachers will offer you the opportunity to apply for these scholarships. The application consists of writing a response to three questions and turning the paper in to the designated personnel at the school. A committee comprised of Over 50’s members will read and score each applica-tion and select the recipients. The committee will not have knowledge of the applicants as all papers will be numbered so that the identification of the applicant is kept secret. We encourage you to take the time and apply.

I ask everyone with political responsibility to re-member two things: human dignity and the com-mon good. Pope Francis@Pontifex, May 1, 2014

Our commitment to the Catholic social mission must be rooted in and strengthened by our spiritual lives. In our relationship with God we experience the conversion of heart that is necessary to truly love one another as God has loved us. U,S. Bishops, “Sharing Catholic Social Teach-ing: Challenges and Directions”

…recognition of the transcendent value of every man and woman favors conversion of heart, which then leads to a commitment to resist violence, ter-rorism and war, and to promote justice and peace. Benedict XVI, address at the UN, 18 April 2008

In the complex global world of today, we are chal-lenged to live with the same sense of unity with one another, the same commitment to the common good, the same solidarity with those who suffer or are in need. In the midst of ethnic and political strife, we are invited to put into practice the “call to solidarity,” In the midst of income and asset ine-qualities, we are called to share what we have. In the midst of war, we are called tto work for peace. In the midst of injustice, we are called to discern the paths to justice for all.

The Christian vision challenges any rugged indi-vidualism that fails to consider how our actions af-fect others, any greed that creates an economic sys-tem that locks people into poverty while others are excessively wealthy, any set of ethical values that excludes others from their human and economic rights, and any violence that fails to respect the dig-nity of other people..

June 5 is World Environment Day. We share a common concern for our planet. We share a com-mon space. We share a finite set of resources. We share a responsibility to care for and respect what we have been given. We are called to share our gifts and use them responsibly.
