Eggs they were giving them away, at 15 cents a dozen. But there were 'mishaps, too. Mall train robberies, shootings, wars same old stuff. Roy R. Sloper 'was digging through Rome old trunks that were stashed away In the attic last week and came up with a J904 copy of the Evening Roseburg Review, printed In Koseburg, Ore., 'way back on April 1, 1004. ' ' Sloper's copy was an exact re- production of the front page, ^printed on heavy satin. His sis- or, the former Miss Leona O. Sloper, who died only recently, had the newspaper printed on cloth, as it contained the an- nouncement of her wedding. Sloper, who now lives at 2667 W. Carson St., got a kick out of the way in which news items with today's concise style, now used by modern newspapers. For example, Sloper pointed out a story which was head- lined "Train Held Up. An Ex- press Messenger Killed In Cali- fornia. In the Sacramento Canyon. The Safe was Dyna- mited and the Robbers Then Escaped With Their Booty." That was the headline. Here's the story: "Redding, April 1. The south- bound overland train 15, fron Portland, was held up last night at the water tank at Copely, in the Sacrcmento (sic) canyon, north of here. The number of the robbers Is not definitely known. After stopping the train their demand to be admitted to tho express car was refused Thereupon, Express Messenger O'Nelll was shot dead. The highwaymen then dynamited the hl« safe, incidentally blowing out the side of the car. After securing the contents, amount of which is not yet known, thoy fcfAit off the front portien of the train, ran it to Keswick, left II there and took to the hills. No ilcflnite trace has been found of the fleeing desperadoes." Another gossipy Item said: Miss Nlha E.- Robinson, a fo HEALTH TYPES There are two kinds of healt -montal and physical. ROY R. SLOPEK ... Egg* 15 cent

Early Newspape Pays of Old G

Oh, for those good ole days, in Those times of yesteryear

when potatoes were *i cents a pound; and butter, it sold for 25 cents a pound.

' ' Sloper's copy was an exact re

production of the front page, ^printed on heavy satin. His sis- or, the former Miss Leona O.

Sloper, who died only recently, had the newspaper printed on cloth, as it contained the an nouncement of her wedding.

Sloper, who now lives at 2667 W. Carson St., got a kick out of the way in which news items

with today's concise style, now used by modern newspapers.

For example, Sloper pointed out a story which was head lined "Train Held Up. An Ex press Messenger Killed In Cali fornia. In the Sacramento Canyon. The Safe was Dyna mited and the Robbers Then Escaped With Their Booty." That was the headline. Here's

the story: "Redding, April 1. The south

bound overland train 15, fron Portland, was held up last night at the water tank at Copely, in the Sacrcmento (sic) canyon, north of here. The number of the robbers Is not definitely known. After stopping the train their demand to be admitted to tho express car was refused Thereupon, Express Messenger O'Nelll was shot dead. The highwaymen then dynamited the hl« safe, incidentally blowing out the side of the car. After securing the contents, amount of which is not yet known, thoy

fcfAit off the front portien of the train, ran it to Keswick, left II

there and took to the hills. No ilcflnite trace has been found of the fleeing desperadoes."

Another gossipy Item said: Miss Nlha E.- Robinson, a fo
