What is Summer Library Club?Kanawha County Public Library’s Summer Library Club is a reading and adventure program meant to keep everyone reading all summer long. It isn’t just about reading, though. It’s about being a part of something bigger, learning new things, meeting new friends, and maybe even earning a few prizes too. The theme for Summer Library Club this year is “Every Hero Has a Story!”

Cool, so how do I sign up?If you’re reading this, then you are already on your way. The best place to start is to talk to a library staff member at your local branch library. They can help you get registered online, help explain the game sheet, and get you on the right track. All you need is a library card.

On the next two pages, you will find a picture of two super kids. Behind those super kids is a city that is surrounded by a stormy cloud. There must be some trouble brewing in the city, because there are spotlights on the rooftops of the buildings. The lights are shining the word, “hero,” into the sky!

It looks like they’re calling all heroes and heroines to action. They’re calling for you!

If you look even more closely, you will see that the picture is broken into 60 blocks. Every time you read for a total of 20 minutes or attend a library event or class, you can color in one block of the picture. You can use crayons, colored pencils, or whatever else you would like to use that will work on the paper. It’s pretty easy, and it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Once you have colored 15 blocks in the picture, bring your game sheet to your local branch library to pick up a prize.

For each 15 blocks you color, you get another prize. That means you will get a prize when you have colored 30 blocks, and you will get another prize when you have colored 45 blocks.

Once you have colored in all 60 blocks to finish your picture, you will get to choose a book to keep, and you’ll also get a KCPL drawstring backpack to keep, too.

Everyone who completes their picture by coloring in all 60 blocks will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize: a Kindle Fire!

Remember, you have until the library closes on August 1 to complete your game sheet and bring it to your local branch library to collect your prizes and register for the grand prize drawing.
