I often speak to friends who teach in ourschools and some of them say that one of theproblems that confronts the community is thelarge number of very young girls who are havingbabies, and who find themselves as parents whenthey are fourteen, fifteen and sixteen years ofage.

Now ask yourself, what does a fourteen-yearold girl know about raising a son or a daughter? The young mother is having difficulty raisingherself. She does not possess the parenting skillsor the resources, in most cases, to feed andclothe a child.

In many cases, the children of these youngparents end up as wards of the state, either in fos-ter homes or in prisons.

In fact, if you were to take a serious look atour prison populations, you would find manyyoung men whose parents are not more than 15years older than they are.

Proper parenting requires wisdom. A younggirl who is 15 years old has yet to reach a stagewhere she is able to seriously ponder issues orsocial policies.

She is still, in many ways, a child herself. Yet,

we continue to accept an environment where ourbabies are having babies.

One of the ugly realities of these young girlshaving babies is that the fathers of the children,in many cases, are older men, who simply takenadvantage of young and impressionable girls. The situation is unacceptable and we are a com-munity must do something about it.

We must begin to sexually educate our chil-dren. We must begin to tell them that sex is nota sport like basketball ball or baseball. We musttell them what the result of sex will be.

We must also begin to place pressure on thoseolder men who are fathering children by theseyounger women. Those who are caught shouldbe charged with rape and sent to prison for thesocietal damage that they are doing.

Some teachers tell me that when they requestto see the parents of some of the children whoare giving them disciplinary problems, theysometimes believe that they are speaking withan older brother or an older sister.

They say that the parent does not understandthe severity of the situation and is sometimeshostile.

The situation that we currently face is unac-ceptable and dangerous and we cannot allow itto continue. We cannot allow children to condi-tion to have children. It is not healthy nor is itwise.

Minister of the Week Student of the Week

While a student at Texas A & M University,Larry Taylor excelled at athletes. A member ofthe track team, he excelled in the events thathe competed in. Yet Larry knew that he mainmission in university was to study and thattrack and field was secondary.

“While I was a student I tried to prepare my-self for a future life in community service,”law Larry, who began his professional careeras a banker before deciding to become alawyer. “I purpose law because I wanted tohelp people. I wanted to help those who soci-ety sometimes takes advantage of,” said Tay-lor, a partner inthe JohnnyCochran Lawfirm and a can-didate for theTexas House ofRepresentativein District 110.

I want to be apublic servantwho alwaysplaces the resi-dents of my dis-trict first,” saidTaylor. “I plan to conduct monthly communityforums in churches and recreation centers tolet residents know what is going on in Austin.Voters will see me more than just at electiontime. I intend to become a permanent part ofthe fabric of the district.”

Taylor says that he plans to establish youthacademies in the District that will allow youngpeople, beginning at age eight, to be trained inthe area of science, technology, engineeringand math. “We have to prepare our young peo-ple for the future. We cannot sit around andallow the jobs of the future to pass them by.We must act now so that they are prepared tocompete.”

For four years, Taylor worked as a senioraide to Congresswoman Eddie Bernice John-son, serving as her director of outreach. Healso worked as an Assistant District Attorneyfor Dallas District Attorney Craig Watkins.

“I was able to organize efforts to assist citi-zens in the District with obtaining state andfederal resources,” he said. “Additionally, Ivolunteered to direct youth sports teams. Iworked with underserved people in all com-munities, Black, Hispanic and white,” he said.

A graduate of the Thurgood Marshall LawSchool at Texas Southern University, Larrywas a member of the school’s board of regentswhile a student. He also was appointed towork in the Texas Legislature while at TexasSouthern.

He has been embraced by members of theclergy, senior citizens, community leaders andregular citizens. “Larry is a tremendous indi-vidual,” said Anthony Brown, a life-long Dis-trict resident. “I am going to vote for himbecause he will be a great servant of the peo-ple. He will get things done and he will workvery hard on our behalf.”

Welcome to the 1stweekend of May, baby!As promised, I'll besharing awesome vaca-tion destinations with

you each week this month. Before westart, congrats to the Cowboys ongrabbing the best defensive player inthe NFL Draft. Jerry Jones hood-winked the St. Louis Rams to moveup from 14th to 6th and grab MorrisClaiborne of LSU! Big ups to ourWorld Champion Dallas Maverickswho are giving OKC and Kevin Du-rant everything they can handle.

We may not win it again this year, but Dirk and the boys are playing likemen! Now lets trip!

This week, we'll visit Negril, Ja-maica(5/4), Cancun/Cozumel inweek two(5/11), Europe in weekthree(5/18) and climax vacation get-aways with the best Internationalcruises out of Texas in weekfour(5/25)!

Sean Kingstons Reggae/Pop clas-sic "Take Me There" best describes avisit to Jamaica. The lyrics reflectingon "The beach, the breeze, the Westindies, I call it paradise", can accu-rately describe what's waiting for youin Negril, Jamaica! How do you getto Negril? Dallas/Fort Worth or DFWInternational Airport has multiple

flights each day to Jamaica. Web-sites such as Groupon.com and Liv-ingsocial. com and various airlineswebsites have deals and can be usedto set up the whole thing, includinground trip transfers from Mo'Bay toNegril! Negril lies about a 90 minutedrive west of Montego Bay, on Ja-maica's West Coast.

It's known as the "capitol of ca-sual" and is basically 3 parts. 7 MileBeach, which runs for miles along aneternity of white sand beach, whichseparates the crystal clear, normallypeaceful and safe blue-green watersof the Caribbean Sea and the beachfront hotels, bars and clubs, 100-300feet from waves.

The hottest new spots on the"beach side" are "Sea Splash," underthe ownership of Chicago business-man Jim Hurt, who visited Negril for30 years before he bought the "SeaSplash Resort".

His staff is top of the line and in acity known for great service like Ne-gril, that means they really pamperthe guests. The 2nd new spot is Sandyhaven, formerly "For Real Resort"and like "Sea Splash" it's been totallyupdated, meaning flat screen TV'sand all the usual amenities.

Whatever type of accommodationyou desire, from luxury to midlevelto budget, you can find it in Negril.

Large chains like Sandals, Beachesand the RIUs are there as well, buttake this from a man who's been to

Jamaica 8 times. There's nothing like a stay on 7

Mile beach! The big chain hotels arelocated a bit further from the "action"in what's called The "Bloody Bay"

area...If you are looking for nightlife, spots like Alfred's Ocean Palace,Bourbon Beach, Sea Star, Mi Yard,The Jungle and Bill and Ted's alwayshave live music, and a party going on.The downtown area's called "TheRoundabout."

It's less than a 5 minute, 5 dollarcab ride and contains grocery stores, doctor, pharmacy, the Digicel store(

You'll want to get a phone/about 30bucks for your week in paradise)andeven a Burger King(Never atethere,lol).

Keep going and you'll end up inthe West End Cliffs where propertiesover look the Caribbean from cliffs.Famous tourist spots like Rick's Cafe, home of the "World Famous CliffDivers of Negril,"

great restaurants like LTU, andbar/restaurants like "Canoe," "Con-nie's Country Western Pub/10 Feet ofTexas" and a bit of a milder pace areall located in the cliffs.

Check out www.tripadvisor.com,www.Negril.com and www.negril-info.com to get to know this wonder-ful resort town of about 3,000 yearround residents a bit better.

Happy Birthday to you and Celebsthis week:Willie Mays 81, BiancaJagger 67, Jackie Jackson 61, GeorgeClooney 51 and Rapper, Master P. is42,

Dallas, TX- The late great Dr. Martin LutherKing Jr. once remarked “Life’s most persistent andurgent question is, what are you doing for others?”The South Dallas Community continues to growin a multitude of ways butthere has been one constant“Rite Care Pharmacy.” RiteCare Pharmacy stands readyto serve and grow while fac-ing the challenges, of Medi-cine, economics, and acommunity in need.

Enter Shawn Zee and RiteCare Pharmacy, a companythat recognize there is a needfor fair priced medicine and toneed to provide good cus-tomer service.

On a chance day, I stoppedby the corporate office andvisited with Zee, Owner andCEO, of Rite Care --a com-pany with six stores in Dal-las, three in Shreveport andothers in Michigan.

As a minority business owner, Zee states that hehas a bird’s eye view of understanding and address-ing the many needs of adverse and challenged setof circumstances in the community they serve.Though the premise of the accompanying article istrue that other cultures as business owners in BlackCommunities can be very cold and dis-courteous,Rite Care has a history of proving that mindsetwrong. Owner, Zee lives and breathes that everyopportunity to serve his customers is a chance toexceed the expectations of his customers. For one,Rite Car has free deliveryand offers, pre-mix skinpotions and prescriptionson everything fromfreshly mixed medica-tions (boutique Medi-cine) to traditional OTCand regular scripts.

Zee is passionateabout charitable causeslike HIV/AIDS aware-ness, scholarships, theMLK parade as well asthe National Psoriasisprogram and any oppor-tunity to serve his theSouthern Dallas Com-munity. Rite Care alsooffers confidential coun-seling to all customers nomatter what the situation, and where others chargefor their delivery servicesRite Care does not. Note that “RITE CARE ISTHE ONLY FULL SERVICE PHARMACYWITH FREE DELIVERY” with a Vow to neverturn away a Customer in need, for lack of Payment.

Zee spoke of his dedication to the South Dallasstore as he reflected about working a whole yearin a hands on fashion to nurture the South DallasMLK location, and affectionately refers to it as“His Baby!”

Rite Care’s dedication to its customers extendsto his trusted community liaison man, RobertRosenthal.

Robert has worked diligently to build in-roadsto the African American Community and theircauses. He believes in the job he is doing in thecommunity and you rest assured that, they at RiteCare are working to serve.

Upon exiting the store a valued customer,Sharon Simpson remarked that without the serv-

ices of Zee and Rite Care she doesn’t know whatshe would do? as she repeatedly is faced with thesituation of choosing between Medicine and Food.

In today’s economy she needs the delayed co-pay Rite Care offers and appreciates the customerservice that is extended with every visit to the store.

A great writer once pinned “The Sunset does notgive us the gift of beauty, We bring the beauty tothe sunset.”

Zee says, “I’m bringing the gift of happy smilesto others” and with that Rite Care is bringing just

that “happy smiles to our community. In closing, be reminded that there are three

things to the Rite Care Boutique approach to med-icine 1) Customer Services like no other majorpharmacy. 2) Customer service like no others givesand 3) Free delivery and delayed co-pays.

These are the attributes, that not only keeps theircustomer base loyal but what makes them uniquelyRite Care Pharmacy a Rite Choice for the Commu-nity.

The Regional Track and Field Champi-onship lived up to the hype and did not disap-point! Mansfield Timberview sprinterreached legendary status in Waco this pastweekend. Aldrich Bailey ran the 400 meterdash in a time of 45.19 and broke the recordset by Jeremy Wariner in 2002. Aldrich is thedefending 5A state champion in the 400 meterdash and he proved he is the truth! Baileyalso runs on the 4 x100 meter relay. MansfieldTimberview ran the event in 40.67. Tim-berview also ran the 4 x400 meter relay in atime of 3:12.71. This team will be fun towatch in the state meet.I think the student-athletes from our Metro-

plex proved that this is one of the top trackand field states in the nation. Congratulationto all the student-athletes that advanced to thestate championship. This is the great state ofTexas, and this state is big and there are thou-sands of track and field athletes and only ahand full get a chance to compete for a statechampionship!Abraham Hall of South Grand Prairie won

the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.45 and alsowon the 200 meter dash in a very impressive20.81. Lancaster girls and boys continue tokeep up the tradition of winning that comes

with being a track athlete at Lancasterhigh School. The Lancaster girls havewon 16 straight regional titles. The Lan-caster boys have won 6 straight. TheTigers won the 4 x100 meter relay, 4 x200 meter relay and the 4 x 400 meterrelay. The Lancaster boys won the 4 x100, and the 4 x 200 meter relay. EboniCoby won the 100 meter dash The Desoto Eagles boys and girl came

home with team championships. The Eagleboys team won the 4 x100 meter relay, 4 x200 and the 4 x 400 meter relay. The boy’ssprint relay ran the event in a time of 40.95.The lady eagle won the 4x400 meter relay.Ridge Jones and Tramine Acy finished 1st and2nd in the 100 meter dash. Tia Gamble wonthe 300 meter hurdles, Shaporria Mont-gomery (a freshman) placed 2nd in the 400meter dash. And Will Stovall advanced in the800 meter run.The object is always to run to win, but in

this competition the ability to advance is justas important as winning. The Metroplex willbe well represented at the state championship;this will be one that legends are made of!

Congratulation to all the winners May GodBless You and Help Us Change the World!!!
