David Lee Roth on KLTZ Radio? Get OUTTA here! Country music fans have been introduced to Van Halen’s 1984 hit JUMP on KLTZ as it aired yesterday afternoon. Now, who would have thought David Lee Roth would ever go blue grass? It was new to me, but not new to some who who listen to a lot of country radio or watch late night television. Strummin’ with the Devil: The Southern Side of Van Halen is a tribute album released on June 6, 2006 featuring David Lee Roth and the seriously talented John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band (banjo, mandolin, fiddle and a variety of guitars) performing covers of Van Halen songs of the Roth era. We had to check it out on youtube this morning, and he appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jay Leno that very evening the album was released. Just google David Lee Roth Jump country and it should pop right up on the top. Pending on who you are you’ll probably either love it or hate it. I loved it. Strummin’ with the Devil’s soundtrack features numerous Van Halen golden oldies, all written by the original band (Michael Anthony, David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen and Alex Van Halen). The 14 featured tracks include: Jump; Jamie’s Cryin’; I’ll Wait; Runnin’ with the Devil; Dance the Night Away; Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Love; Hot for Teacher; Feel Your Love Tonight; Panama; Unchained; Ice Cream Man; And the Cradle Will Rock; Could This Be Magic?; and Eruption. Hmmmm... might have to get this album ordered.

The annual Top 10 Track & Field Meet is tonight on Scotty Field (field events were to get underway at 3:00). As far as weather is concerned, temperatures are looking to top out at just under 60 degrees at the start with a breeze of around 10 mph. There also happens to be a 60% chance of precipitation as it decreases to under 50% as the meet goes on with the wind picking up slightly. But don’t let that hinder you of going up and watching the finest track & field athletes eastern Montana has to offer; hopefully the weather cooperates and all events go smooth.

Paddlefish season begins May 15 on the Yellowstone River below the mouth of the Bighorn River and Missouri River downstream of Fort Peck Dam. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks biologists continue to monitor these unique populations and take a conservative approach to managing these long-lived fishes. “Opening day this year falls on a catch and release only day so anglers need to be aware that if they intend to fish on opening day, Intake Fishing Access Site is their only option that day”, said Mike Backes, Region 7 Fisheries Manager. All paddlefish anglers should obtain a copy of the Montana 2014 paddlefish regulations, which contain specific rules for each of the different seasons and river stretches. There have been no changes in any of the regulations from last year’s rules. Some of the regulation highlights for the Yellowstone River and Missouri River below the dam are:• Thepaddlefish seasonon theYellowstoneRiver andMissouriRiverdownstreamofFortPeckDambeginsMay15.Ayellowpaddlefishtagisrequiredforthisstretchofriverandmustbeproperlyplacedonthefirstpaddlefishcaughtonaharvestday.

Following the paddlefish harvest closure, catch-and-release snagging will continue only at Intake Fishing Access site for 10 consecutive days following the closure date or through June 30, whichever comes first. Anglers can access the Glendive Chamber of Commerce website at http://www.glendivechamber.com. Or call the FWP Region 7 office in Miles City at 406-234-0900 to find the current number of harvested paddlefish at Intake Fishing Access Site. “Because river conditions and fishing pressure from anglers can change quickly, anglers are advised to check on paddlefish harvest status before they leave home,” Backes said. “Anglers also should not be surprised by ice damage that is still visibly present at Fishing Access Sites. For more on the paddlefish seasons, see the FWP website at fwp.mt.gov under “Fishing” and “Regulations” and “Eastern District” then click on “Paddlefish Regulations” for a pdf file. Or pick up a copy of the 2014 paddlefish pamphlet with all the current regulations at FWP offices or any other license provider.

I am writing to urge the voters of Valley County to vote for DAVE GORTON. We in Valley County are lucky to have a man of Dave Gorton’s knowledge, training, experience; to seek the office of the Justice of the Peace. The justice of the Peace is an integral part of our judicial system and as with all judicial offices, we should seek to elect and appoint those with the best qualifications, background, and ethics. There can be no doubt that of the candidates running for Justice of the Peace, Dave Gorton is by far the most qualified. Dave’s qualifications are that he is a Licensed Attorney and has bee practicing law for some 38 years. He is presently serving as a member of the Montana Supreme Court Commissions on Courts of Limited Jurisdiction, those being, City Courts, Municipal Courts, and Justice of the Peace Courts. He has helped develop curriculum for their semi-annual week-long training sessions and has made presentations at the same. His stated purpose for running for Justice of the Peace was that he wishes to restore a level of professionalism to the Justice Court, and I believe that we in Valley County should be honored to have a man of his stature and qualifications willing to accept the duties of this most important office. I urge you to vote for Dave Gorton for Justice of the Peace. Sincerely, James D. Rector

of the legend’s career. In addition to his tenure with Buddy and playing on the GRAMMY winning record Slippin’ In, Holt’s seven solo records have established him not only as a six-string powerhouse but also as a penetrating and soulful storyteller. Holt calls it “tapping a frequency — getting to a place where the sounds that my band and I make are warm, human and undisguised by technology.” Through the countless hours and miles on the road, criss-crossing the country, Scott has developed a reputation as one of the most exciting live acts in the world. The official motto for the band, as found on their merchandise, website and

liner notes to their CD’s is: “LOUD IS GOOD.” Scott explains his philosophy this way: “When I talk about loud being good, I’m not necessarily saying that you should turn everything up — it’s not necessarily high volume. It’s about a ‘spiritual loudness’ being proudly who you are and embracing music as an important and spiritual necessity of life.” “If you listen,” Holt continues, “you can always hear the blues in the foundation of my playing, but the greatest bluesmen, like Buddy and Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, were always changing, experimenting and evolving. I’ve tried to maintain that philosophy and attitude towards my

own music, just create the music and let people call it what they want.” Tickets for the 9th Annual Bonnie City Blues & Brews, just forty bucks a “P.O.P.”, are available at the Glasgow Area Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture Office, KLTZ/KLAN and The Cottonwood Inn.
