Quotes to ponder….

Who Knew….

WHO KNEW THAT???

Our Liberty Library is full of wonderful and interesting books for adults and children about PEOPLES’

LIVES. We call these books biographies and autobiographies. Our pastor before Pastor Grant was

Dr. Danny Forshee and he absolutely loved to read biographies and often used them as examples in his

sermons. He always encouraged our congregation to read biographies, especially about missionaries and

church figures. You may know about Billy Graham, but do you know the story of his time in seminary and

what happened with his best friend? You may know Fanny Crosby’s hymns, but do you know what

happened to her shortly after birth that changed her life? You may know C.S. Lewis’ books about Narnia,

but do you know how he lived in his 20s?

Come on into the library and look for books about John Wesley, Albert Einstein, DL Moody, Ben Franklin,

Franklin Graham, Lottie Moon and many others.

“Conversation with your children is something that will never be wasted!”

Dr. Charles Stanley

Billy Graham’s advice

to his grandson Will

before he died, “There

are two things you need

to do: Pray more and

know the Bible better. I

wish I had spent more

time praying and read-

ing. I wish I knew the

Bible as well as your

Grandmother did.” –

Daddy Bill

“We say to our

Children,

‘Act like

Grown-ups,’

But Jesus said to

The grown-ups,

‘Be like

Children.’

~Billy Graham

“Sunday clears away the rust of the whole week!” - Joseph Addison

Encourage….

Prayer Tips for children….

Five Finger Prayers

Use your fingers to help remember important people to pray for.

Thumb: People closest to you. Pray for family and close friends.

Pointer Finger: People who point the way. Pray for teachers, pastors, coaches.

Middle Finger: People in authority. Pray for the President, Vice President,

Congress, Governor, firefighters and policemen.

Ring Finger: Pray for people who are weak, sick, homeless, hurting or in need.

Pinky Finger: Yourself. Pray for your own needs.

Popsicle Prayers

Use popsicle sticks or craft sticks to write the names of

people (Trevor) or to write a situation like (Help Daddy

find a new job). Put the sticks in a small glass jar and take

them out each day when the family gets together to pray.

This will especially teach the younger children how to

faithfully pray each day.

. .

. .

. .

. .

From birth through the senior years, all people love to hear that they are special. Use

these encouraging words to cheer on those you know and love.

I like how you did that!

Boy, you are a hard worker.

You are so kind to others.

Thanks for helping me!

You’re a good listener.

I am glad God made you just

the way you are.

New Children’s Books & DVDs

FOUR PRACTICAL THINGS YOU CAN DO TO KEEP YOUR CHILD READING THIS SUMMER!

1. Read to your child daily for at least 15 minutes. This will improve their reading ability, listening

comprehension and attitude toward reading. Include the whole family…dad, grandma, teenagers, etc.

Do they like adventure ? Try reading The Green Ember series by S.D. Smith or Treasure Island by

Robert Lewis Stevenson. Do they like fantasy? Read the Narnia series by C.S. Lewis. Do they like

family adventures? Read the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder or The Boxcar Children by

Gertrude Chandler Warner. Ask your parents what books they loved when they were young. You’ll

get some good ideas from them.

2. Put books and magazines in buckets or baskets in the bathroom for reading fun. Reader’s Digest,

nursery tales, poetry, Seek and Find books, children’s Dictionary and Bible Story books are just a

few ideas.

3. Read a cookbook together. Pick out a recipe to make for family dinner. Kids LOVE to look through

cookbooks and choose recipes. Try campbellskitchen.com or kraftfoods.com for new ideas. Be sure

to turn TV and phones off during family meal time.

4. Choose one night a week to be designated as Family Fun Night. Play a game together. Choose games

for your kids’ ages. Hi Ho Cherry-O, Chutes and Ladders or Go Fish and Old Maid for youngest;
