I recently went on a vacation with my family While the vacation was great the days
leading up to the trip were far less enjoyable There is so much to do before you leave on a trip There are a variety of things at work that must be done Your home has to be secured and prepared for your extended absence And many other things get added to your to do list as the day of departure draws near All this got me thinking What should we be doing right now as we prepare for Jesusrsquo arrival and our own departure I donrsquot know when Christ will return but I believe that it will be soon And the fact remains one way or the other we are all one day closer to our departure from this earth So here are the three things I think we should all be doing We should all be listening and looking for Christrsquos arrival 1 Thessalonians 416 says he will arrive with a loud command Other places in scripture like Hebrews926-28 say that he will appear and we will be able to see him So it only makes sense that we would all be both listening and looking for Christ Luke 1240 proclaims that the date and hour is unknown but if we are watching and listening daily we wonrsquot be surprised Next we should all continue to labor until he returns In 2 Timothy 4 we see the Apostle Paul encourage Timothy to ldquopreach the wordrdquo and ldquobe preparedrdquo among other things Paul told Timothy to do these things ldquoin view of his appearingrdquo (NIV84) In other words the swift return of Christ should move us to labor in the fields that are ripe for the harvest Speaking of the ripe harvest it was Christ himself who says ldquoGo I am sending you outrdquo in Luke 103 When Christ returns we should not be found idol but rather doing the work of God
Finally we should long for his return Every Christian I know wants Jesus to return but few want him to return today Some would rather Christ wait because they are ashamed to face him for one reason or another Others just love their lives here on earth so much that even the prospect of heaven itself they would rather stay here Whatever the reasons few really long for the return of Christ Paul said this in 2 Timothy 48 (NET) mdash8Finally the crown of righteousness is reserved for me The Lord the righteous Judge will award it to me in that day and not to me only but also to all who have set their affection on his appearing Some translations say ldquolonged for his appearingrdquo others ldquoloved his appearingrdquo and still others ldquoeagerly awaitingrdquo his appearing The point is simply this as we prepare for our departure we should long for it at the same time In the same way you long for that vacation more and more as it draws near Even though there are extra things to do in preparation you still long for the day you get to pull out of the drive way and head off for your adventure
I donrsquot know when Jesus will return or when we will leave this world but I do believe the day is coming While you wait listen look labor and long for the return of Christ Jesus may God richly bless you until His one and only son returns Pastor Peter Biblical Studies Press The NET Bible First Edition Bible English NET Bible The NET Bible 2 Ti 48 Biblical Studies Press 2006

April 30 2013 Happy Feet
We were playing with our baby girl the other night when the movie Happy Feet came on It was the part where the little pen-guin had been captured and could not escape the stone glass windows It made me want to cry to see the look of defeat as he stood there with no hope Then it came unexpectedly A little girl began to tap on the window As she tapped it was enough to spark a flame in the heart of the little penguin and he began to dance I have to admit when Im going through a trial my first reaction is not to dance I tend to sulk and cry and I want the storm to pass already I read this verse this morning Ask and it will be given to you seek and you will find knock and it will be opened to you As I thought about it something occurred to me that made me smile Its our human tendency to try and do things on our own and in our time But the first part of this verse assures us that once we ask that it will be given to us God has already got it under control before we ever start seeking or knocking What a blessing God continues to have us trust him as we walk down the unknown path but as we take each step in seeking Him and while we knock on the door to see if it will open we have the confidence in knowing that what we have asked God has already done Ive learned from experience that God holds true to His promises He has blessed the socks off of us that sometimes we dont have enough room to store all the blessings I am learning once again how important it is to praise Him through the storm How we need to remember all that He has done and not doubt in His perfect timing My spirit has been renewed my faith has grown and I continue to learn how to praise God even through the most difficult of times This morning after finishing a wonderful book called The Red Sea Rules I turned up the music and danced as I praised an awesome living God It was the spark I needed to re-ignite the flame I sang praises to Him smelled the flowers outside that he put there for my enjoyment listened to the birds sing and rocked my little miracle to sleep Wow How He has blessed me So whether you are on the upper side or the underside of the storm whether you are on the east bank or the west bank of the Red Sea God will make a way And as He does dont forget to praise Him - Robert Morgan And dont forget to DANCE

Fighting for her heart 04082013
I am in my bedroom when the screaming starts It is raining again big drops that drum against the tin roof drowning out everything but her crying She had been running to put our new baby goat in her pen hurrying to shield her from the rain when she slipped ldquoMama Mamardquo she screams sobbing I look out the window at my little girl not so little anymore sitting in the mud Tears mix with the rain and run down her face Blood seeps from a scrape on her knee She is calling me ldquoAre you ok honey Come inside and let me look at your knee Can you walkrdquo I console through the window trying to gauge if I really need to join her in the rain and mud ldquoI can walkrdquo she sniffles and slowly gets to her feet favoring her injured leg I open my medical ldquotackle boxrdquo and sift through the contents looking for large band-aids and ointment She joins me on the floor stretching out her leg and wincing at the pain I know I should wear gloves but something inside me struggles with the idea of need-ing to protect myself from my own child And I wonder how it makes her feel my cautiousness with her blood I decide against them this time again and choose instead to be careful and hope my husband doesnt see He is very adamant about gloves The scrape is not large and in two minutes we are done I hug her and tell her I am sorry she got hurt and she limps off to play again with bandages covering her knee This moment for me is a miracle For so long this child-turned-daughter has run away from me in her pain An injury hurt feelings even a small correction would send her into a tailspin a downward spiral that nothing could save her from Her ldquofight or flightrdquo response was automatic and frequent She was a runner Her first months with us were full of it The language barrier was as formidable as the Berlin Wall with our family trapped on opposite sides Even as understanding came she continued to run or hide to pull inside herself at the slightest sign of anything uncomfortable Karimojong people show little emotion on average and children seem especially stoic when compared to my often boisterous whiny and loud kids She was typical for her culture and a-typical for mine As time passed and emotions began to surface she was powerless to know what to do with them How could she She had never been taught how to express anger joy or loneliness appropriately before And so she ran Sometimes physically sometimes men-tally but always there was flight always the pulling away and dealing with it alone She set herself apart And so we followed consoled hugged and loved her We taught her how to deal with her emotions We modeled how to respond appropriately in different situations Sometimes we worried and often we were frustrated but we kept pursuing her And we prayed desperately for a breakthrough We fought for her heart And today for the first time she turned to me My daughter my strong stubborn beautiful daughter found me to be a safe place and did not run away It was a miracle As I watch her hobble away I think to myself where would I be if He had not fought for my heart Would I still be caught in my own tailspin of emotions Overwhelmed and lied to by my feelings Full of the desire to run from the One who loved me more than anything I think so Folks we cant give up the fight for our childrens hearts ever This is our biggest job as parents They desperately need us to keep pursuing them to keep believing that they are worth fighting for We need to fight for them the way He fought for us and never give up until He has their hearts It will happen if we are faithful Miracles are possible She is proof of that
ldquoAnd let us not grow weary of doing good for in due season we will reap if we do not give uprdquo
