FROM THE PASTOR’S STUDY

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Philippians 2:1-2 Several weeks ago we completed a survey here in our congregation. Thank you to everyone who took part in the survey. It will be an incredibly valuable source of information for our planning as a congregation. Coming up on May 7th we will have a chance to look at the results of the survey as a congregation. We will have a time between services that day to see the responses and the data gathered from it and to ask any questions that arise. I hope you will be able to join us that day for an interesting discussion. I have had a chance now to take some preliminary looks at the survey results along with Pastor Kurt Jacobson who will be guiding us in this process. And one thing that came through quite clearly in this first glance is that as a congregation we do have a great deal of common purpose and a good spirit that we share together. In indicators of vitality as a congregation we scored very high, and this was a result of a sense of satisfaction with the congregation and a willingness to work together. All in all, I felt that the results of the survey were very encouraging for us as a congregation. And as I saw the results I thought of this passage above from Philippians. These words from Paul’s letter to the Philippians talk about being united with one another as Christians. The words used here are “being like minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.” Now does that mean that the people in the church are agree on every single teaching and issue? No, it doesn’t? But it does mean that the church has a shared spirit for carrying out its mission and calling of Jesus and sharing his love with the world. And I can see that shared spirit at work among us here at First Lutheran. Now as we look to the future, it shows that we have a lot to build on together, and that we

are in a good place to plan and grow into our future together. I hope you will be able to join us on

May 7th, and continue the conversation on where God is calling us in our future together.

Blessings to you,

Pastor Tim

Need for Additional Handbells

We would like to go ahead with the purchase of the 5th Octave of Handbells. The total cost of the project is $9,388.19. Memorial funds amounting to $4,388.19 that have already been given will be used. We are then asking the congregation for special gift donations toward this project of $5,000. These gifts can be given in honor or in memory of a loved one if you wish. Thank you very much!

Judy & Lee Jacobson would like to

thank all of our First Lutheran

family who sent cards or called

congratulating us on our 50th

Wedding Anniversary. We

celebrate the loving power of Jesus

Christ in an all adult church here

in Arizona; but First Lutheran

will always be our church home.

We look forward to worshiping

with all of you this summer.

Wednesday Evening Lenten Services were well-attended this spring….Lenten suppers were held at 5:15 PM, followed by a 6:00 PM Service held in the Fellowship Hall. Pictured below is the Men’s Chorus singing at the last Lenten service.

Palm Sunday was reasonably warm … allowing for the Possession of Palms around the outside of the church before the 8:00 AM Worship Service.

Helpers Needed to Serve the Meal

at Benjamin’s House Homeless Shelter in Rice Lake. The Benjamin’s House is the only homeless shelter in our area/county. Every evening community groups come in and serve the evening meal. First Lutheran has been signing up to serve one meal per month. These will be on the 4th Tuesday of the month. Meals are served at 6:00pm and do not need to be fancy. There are usually about 20 residents. Please think about helping with a meal. If you have not done it before, we can give you all the info and possibly pair you with someone who has already served. There is a sign-up in the Fellowship Hall. We need volunteers for May. Please sign up today!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Geneva Gadow whose memorial service was Saturday, April 1, 2017. May the peace and comfort of the Lord be with you during this time of loss.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Max P. Bents whose funeral service was Tuesday, April 4, 2017. May the peace and comfort of the Lord be with you during this time of loss.

SYNOD ASSEMBLY

Our Northwest Synod of Wisconsin gathered on Saturday, April 29th for the Annual Synod Assembly. The Assembly took place at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.
