ACADEMICS FOR MONTH OF MAY:

Exams for Islamiat, Value Education, Computer Science and General Awareness for Grades 5- 9 were held from

19th till 23rd.

Saturday, 30th May, Final Exams for Grades 5-9 started.

CULTURAL & OTHER EVENTS IN MAY:

Field trip

Children of KG went to the Polar Ice-Cream factory on the 30th of

April and the 4th of May in two different slots as a part of their

‘Health and Hygiene’ campaign program. They visited the factory at

Tejgaon by School bus. Upon reaching, the children were taken to

the conference room and treated with ice-creams. Before the

factory visit, children had to wear caps, masks, and cover their

shoes with plastic covers to maintain the high standard of the

factory. During the factory visit, the children briefed about the

process, production and hygiene. It was a successful trip and

children enjoyed themselves immensely.

World Labour Day

On the 4th of May, a Special Assembly for Grades 1- 5 was held in the auditorium to celebrate “World Labour Day”.

Mothers’ Day 2015 in Pre Primary

Mothers’ Day was

celebrated by the preprimary section of DPS STS School with great enthusiasm on Sunday, the 10th of May. The ground floor of the school, corridors, the classrooms and the soft boards around the play area were decorated with children’s

craft, colouring work and Mothers’ day quotes. The school premise looked very colourful and festive. Mothers were given a notice beforehand so that even the working mothers could participate. A lot of mothers of the four graders brought home made food items to share with the other children and their mothers. The Playgroup, Nursery, Pre KG and KG classes invited the mothers for an hour and half duration during both the shifts. Both indoor and outdoor activities were kept in the planner and Playgroup gathered in the play area for the Pillow passing game for the mothers.

The children presented the Mothers’ Day song with warm gestures. Then the mothers took a trip down their memory lane and shared some stories from their childhood which were indeed very touchy and emotional for all of us. Some of the mothers even sang for their children! Last but not least, just before going home, the children handed over the special Mothers’ Day card to their mothers!

All in all, the day was a success from the beginning till the end. Not only the mothers, the children and teachers enjoyed the day with their hearts’ content.

Rabindra Nazrul Jayanti

A special assembly was held on 11th May (Primary) and 12th May (Secondary) to celebrate the birthday of the Two Eminent figures of Bengali Literature Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam. The students of Grades 1 to 7 performed a variety of famous songs and dance of these two laureates. All students and teachers were delighted by the wonderful performances.

British Council Reading Test

On the 13th, British Council Reading Test was held for Grades 3- 12. Students had previously borrowed books from the library and read them and were tested based on the books that they read. It was conducted during the English periods of each grade.

On 16.5.15 the KG children gathered in the main hall to learn about different professions. It was arranged to acquaint

them with varied professionals and their jobs. 4 Guest speakers were invited and they spoke about their professions.

The dentist explained about oral health and gave a power point presentation.

There were two homemakers who talked about their household responsibilities and their importance in the lives of their

children. One of the teachers dressed up as a magician and showed a few tricks to all the children of KG to explain a

magician’s job. The topic gave the children a valuable insight about their goals in life.

Shyama

On the 16th, a Dance Drama was performed by students of Grades 5-9 depicting the story of Shyama, taken from Tagore’s famous poem Porishodh. “Shyama” is essentially a romantic tragedy, though there are two love stories intertwined: That of Shyama and Bajra Sen, who at first are both in search of their initial partners. Then there is the unexpressed, unrequited love that Uttiyo has for Shyama which leads Uttiyo to sacrifice himself for her happiness. Both romantic situations are likely to be painfully familiar to many. The entire story was depicted beautifully by the students and everyone in the audience enjoyed it thoroughly.

Annual Bangla Quiz Competition Bangla Department finished their Annual Bangla Quiz competition 2015 successfully .It was held on 25th May for Grades-6 & 7 and 26th May for Grades- 8 &9 .Students enthusiastically enjoyed the Quiz program. Questions were given based on Bangla Language, History and also Literature. Visual Questions were also shown requiring students to identify. A variety of question patterns presented made the quiz even more intriguing and interesting. The results are given below:

SOCIALLY USEFUL PRODUCTIVE WORK

Clean Up Campaign!

From the 1st till the 31st of May, Students of Grades 5 -7 did some Socially Useful Productive Works(SUPW) like Cleaning

And Dusting programs. They cleaned their class rooms as well as the School’s Library. They also helped arrange the

library books age wise. To create awareness, they prepared some leaflets which they distributed among their peers and

pasted on display boards outside the classrooms as a part of cleanliness campaign.

Rally for Climate

In the National Round of the Junior Climate Champions organized by Daily

Star and HSBC, Aitijhyya Pal of Grade 7 was a participant in the speech

competition from DPS STS School. She was awarded as 2nd Runner up in

the Bangla Academy.

PRE PRIMARY ANNUAL EXHIBITIONS

On Saturday the 30th of May, “Annual Exhibitions” for Pre Primary were held. All the Pre Primary parents attended and

highly praised the Function & the rich and diverse curriculum of Pre Primary.

SPORTS IN MONTH OF MAY

World School Chess Championship 2015

World School Chess Championship 2015 was held in Pattaya, Thailand from the 6th of May to the 15th of May 2015. 700

students from 36 countries around the world took part in the tournament. Rameen Ahmed, of Grade 4D from DPS STS

School represented Bangladesh in this tournament.

and China and also played an

played with participants from

India, Korea, Hong Kong and

many European countries. He has

had an excellent experience in knowing different kinds of people and cultures and also has received an International

Rating from FIDE (World Chess Federation). This is great achievement for DPS STS School and Bangladesh as a whole.

Inter House Cricket Tournament

Inter House Cricket Tournament was held from the 11th to the 14th and then on 16th and 17th. Students

from all different houses participated. Strategies and Tactics were discussed while students displayed their

talents in the game of cricket. It was a fun filled and energy packed event altogether.

DPS STS v/s ISD Friendly Cricket Match 2015

On the 15th, a Friendly Cricket Match between DPS STS and ISD was held. ISD won the match by scoring 138 runs for 7

wickets and DPS STS got all out at 121 runs.

ST. Joseph School Basketball Tournament 2015

DPS STS School Students participated in the St. Joseph Higher Secondary School Noushir Hasan Inter- School Basketball

Tournament on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd . The games were held at ST. Joseph Higher Secondary School. DPS STS School

students played tremendously well while advancing to the Semi Finals on the 3rd May. DPS STS School was awarded rank

of 2nd Runner up.

Orientation Programme for New PG Parents

On the 9th, DPS STS School arranged an Orientation Programme for the parents of the new students of Playgroup for

the session 2015-2016. It was conducted by Vice Principal and the Pre Primary Head was also present to participate in the

discussions and answer parents’ queries.

A very detailed power point presentation was prepared for the parents, containing the curriculum of Playgroup,

thorough explanation of the teaching /learning methods used, pictures of many theme based activities done

throughout the year, and most importantly , some constructive tips to handle separation anxiety better both for the

parent and the child.

After a light snack, parents were given a tour around the school before collecting their children from the two

classrooms of playgroup. It was indeed a great effort and we hope that the hard work, relevant information and

energy invested in this programme will prove to be fruitful in the next session!

On Saturday, 10th May, Vice Principal Ma’am had a general meeting with Pre-Primary teachers to discuss about

the curriculum & measures to make it more creative and enriching.

On Tuesday, 12th May, there was a meeting on Diary21 (online educational tool and school management system)

by Champs21.com. Mr. Faisal Kader COO of STS Group Ltd. & Mr. Russell, CEO of Champs21.com were present

at the occasion.

On Tuesday, 19th May, Mr. Richard Tangye, CEO of STS Educational Group Ltd. had a meeting with Principal &

Vice Principal, Mr. Stickle (Manager-Admin), Mr. Mazharul Islam (Maintenance Engineer) and Mr. Golam

Mostafa (Deputy Manager- Accounts).

On Thursday and Saturday, 21st and 23rd May, Mr. Richard Tangye had meetings with Principal & Vice Principal at

DPS STS School Dhaka.

On Saturday, 23rd May, Principal & Vice Principal had a meeting with Mr. Bob Kundanmal Chairman of STS Group

Ltd. at the Royal Park Residence in Banani, Dhaka.

On Tuesday, 26th May, Vice Principal Ma’am had a meeting with exam invigilators in the Main Hall regarding

conduct of final exams in a smooth and efficient manner.

Other Information in May On Sunday, 3rd May, School was closed on the occasion of “Budhha Purnima.

ACADEMICS

Final Exams ended on 10th June, 2015.

The 13th was the last school day for Pre Primary students.

14th was Script Showing Day for Grades 3-9.

On the 13th and 15th, Grades 7, 8 & 9 Promotion meetings were held in the Main Hall. Principal and Vice Principal

attended the meeting.

The 15th was Report Card Distribution Day for the students of Grades 1 & 2.

The 17th was Report Card Distribution Day for the students of Play Group to KG and Grades 3 to 9.

From the 23rd till the 4th, School will be open for Grades 10, 11 & 12 (Academic Year 2015-16).

CULTURAL & OTHER EVENTS

On the 13th, Pre Primary Annual Cultural Programme was held in the Auditorium.

SPORTS

Dr. R Khan Memorial International Rapid Rating Chess Tournament 2015 On the 12th, Dr. R Khan Memorial International Rapid Rating Chess Tournament 2015 was held at the Bangladesh

Chess Federation, National Sports Council (NSC), Dhaka. The students of Grades 2 to 6 boys participated in the

tournament where they learned about the variant styles of Chess ranging from Rapid to Normal and also brushed up

on their experience as Chess players.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Programme (Bronze level)

“Journey to the Swiss Alps”

10 students of the School participated for The Duke of Edinburgh Programme (Bronze) trip to Les Elfes Verbier,

Switzerland from the 13th of June till the 20th of June. The students were accompanied by 1 teacher.Students

departed Dhaka on the 13th of June and arrived at Geneva airport. They checked into the campus in Verbier in the

evening and attended introductory sessions. Members were completely occupied by the following activities and

sessions the next 7 days: These included orienteering, map reading, risk management, equipment handling and

care, ruck sack packing, tent pitching, stove preparing and lighting fire, cooking, training expedition, route planning,

hiking, ice skating, ropes course, chocolate factory tour, shopping and dining out.

It was a very informative and adventurous trip and all students enjoyed immensely. The trip ended on the 20th of

June.

MEETINGS / WORKSHOPS IN JUNE

On the 7th, Mr. Saiful Islam Pervez (CEO) & Mr. Faisal Kader (COO) of STS Group Ltd. came to the School for a

meeting with Principal & Vice Principal.

GRADUATION CEREMONY OF DPS STS SCHOOL

The Graduation Ceremony 2015 for DPS STS School, Dhaka was held on the 12th at the ISD School Auditorium in

Basundhara Dhaka. Mr. Moyeen (Director), Mr. Harsh Wal (Principal), Mrs. Madhu Wal (Vice Principal), CEO of ISD

School Mr. Craig Salmon & Respective teachers with Admin Staff & Parents were present at the programme. The

Programme commenced at 7pm with a Welcoming Speech and a Prayer. Engulfed in an ambience of soothing tunes, the

Graduating Class of 2015 advanced forward individually to receive their Gifts and take photos with the Principal and Vice

Principal of DPS STS School, Mr. Harsh Wal and Mrs. Madhu Wal. As the programme continued, Vice Principal Ma’am

Mrs. Madhu Wal delivered an encouraging farewell speech to the Graduating Class. This was followed by the

Valedictorian’s Speech about his own experiences and acknowledgements as a student of DPS STS School. As the

Valedictorian’s speech left the guests enchanted, a special video was then shown reminiscing the special moments of

the Graduating Class in DPS STS School leaving many in a state of nostalgia.

The Ceremony was concluded joyously when Principal Sir and Vice Principal Ma’am declared the Graduation and asked

students to throw their hats off commemorating a completed graduation.

Spelling Bee Season 4 On the 15th Daily Star officially

launched its 4Th Season of

Spelling Bee under its new

slogan, “School of Excellence”.

The Press Meet was arranged at

the Daily Star Center in Dhaka

and the VIP Guests were Mr.

Shahid Shiraz (Director of

Channel I), Mr. Aziz Khan

(Chairman of Summit Power Group) and Mr. Russell Ahmed ( CEO of Champs 21)and Mr. Mahfuz Anam (Chief Editor

and Publisher of Daily Star).

The programme started with a brief retrospective on Season 3 followed by an inspiring speech by Mr. Mahfuz Anam. Mr.

Anam reflected on the importance of Language in enabling Children to be Global Citizens. After the Mr. Shahid Shiraz

gave an enlightening speech about the role of Media in delivering education which was followed by another speech by

Mr. Aziz Khan who expressed his gratitude for involving Summit Power in the Spelling Bee Season 4 Campaign. Finally,

Mr. Russell Ahmed concluded the launching ceremony by delivering a short speech on the format and online login

procedure.

On the 15th, Mr. Moyeen (Director of STS Group Ltd.) came to the School for a meeting with Principal & Vice Principal

and Mr. Mostafiz (IT Manager) & Mr. Abdul Alim (Sr. Executive-IT) attended a meeting with Mr. Ehsanul Hoque (Head of

Sales-AAMRA Networks Ltd.), Head of IT of ISD, Mr. Prashant Vashisht (AHD) at the STS Head office regarding DPS STS

School Domain transfer issues.

TERM ENDING LUNCHEON AT UTTARA CLUB

On the 17th, Year ending Lunch was held at Uttara Club Ltd. Mr. Moyeen

(Director-STS Group Ltd), Mr. Parvez (CEO-STS Group Ltd), Mr. Faisal (COO-

STS Group Ltd) and Mr. Giash Uddin (CFO- STS Group Ltd) were present at

the occasion along with Principal, Vice Principal and teachers. Vice

Principal Ma’am gave an inspiring speech as she reflected on the

achievements of the past school year. With great food and laughter, all

teachers bid farewell to a successful term ending as they headed on for the Summer Vacations.

TEACHERS’ TRAINING WORKSHOP SESSION 2015-2016

From the 18th June to 22nd, Teachers’ Training Workshop Session 2015-2016 was held at DPS STS School Dhaka. Highly

qualified and distinguished guest trainers such as Mr. William Westgate, Dr. Zeenat Khader, Ms. Maria Kashif, Dr

Mahbub, Principal Sir Mr. Harsh Wal and Vice Principal Ma’am Mrs. Madhu Wal gave a lot of vital information while

looking into Effective Methods of Teaching, Lesson Planning, Structuring, Differentiation and other teaching

methodologies. A lot of vital other components were also discussed thoroughly through power point presentations and

interactive workshop participation among the teachers. Teachers were also required to give their opinions and such

methods were elaborated further through group discussion and participation. The workshops proved to be a great

success and left all the teachers enlightened and more confident in teaching. It was helpful as it reminded us about the

various techniques in teaching which may not have been applied previously.
