Our Mission
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS
I am thrilled to report that BHWC Centennial celebration banners are flying high along Santa Monica Blvd. near Linden Drive and adjacent to the recently rededicated electric fountain.
In addition, I hope you will visit the Beverly Hills Library to view Raleigh Robinson’s beautiful display commemorating our centennial. Soon there will be displays at Two Rodeo, installed by members Lynn Marks and Elizabeth Mason, and beginning May 16th at The Wallis. We are also planning a BHWC evening at The Wallis on May 20th -- you will be hearing more about that in an upcoming e-blast.
Every member can be involved in the commemoration of our centennial by participating in our Tribute Book. Please, please -- we need your help in making this project the huge success we want it to be! Participation by members of the community in this, our community organization, is vital to the perpetuation of BHWC as it continues to prosper and grow into its second hundred years.

Maureen Pratt’s new book, Don't Panic!: How to Keep Going When the Going Gets Tough, is for anyone who wants solace and solid pointers on how to keep calm in a world that seems to be increasingly full of crises.
Maureen Pratt is an award-winning playwright, journalist and author, as well as a sought-after speaker and patient advocate. Her syndicated column, "Living Well," has appeared in publications in the United States and abroad. Maureen and her work have been featured on the Hallmark Channel's program, "New Morning."
A graduate of Georgetown University, Maureen speaks French and Spanish. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Theater Arts from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Division of Theater, Film, and Television, and is a member of the Author's Guild, Catholic Press Association, and past member of the Georgetown University Alumni Interviewing Committee.
DON’T PANIC!
Join BHWC President and Art Historian, Mumsey Nemiroff, for a fascinating look at the art and style of prominent French painter, Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun (16 April 1755 – 30 March 1842). Know as Madame Le Brun, her artistic style is generally considered part of the aftermath of Rococo, while she often adopts a neoclassical style. While serving as the portrait painter to Marie Antoinette, Vigée Le Brun works purely in Rococo in both her color and style choices. Vigée Le Brun left a legacy of 660 portraits and 200 landscapes. In addition to private collections, her works may be found at major museums, such as the Hermitage Museum, London's National Gallery, and museums in continental Europe and the United States.

Our speaker is 50s Pin-Up Girl and Actress, Kathleen Hughes.
Hughes was discovered in a Little Theater production in 1948. She
signed seven-year contract with 20th Century Fox, and made fourteen
films for the studio. She appeared in five motion pictures for Universal
Studios, including the cult film It Came From Outer Space. Released
on May 27, 1953, the sci-fi feature was adapted from the writing
of Ray Bradbury. It was Universal's first entry into the 3D film medium.
This sexy brunette-turned-blonde actress of 50s screamers and
crimers lost out on a starlet role in A Ticket to Tomahawk (1950) to
none other than Marilyn Monroe.
Hughes was married to Stanley Rubin, the producer of Bracken's
World.
It’s that time of the year again! Join fellow BHWC
Members for a captivating presentation as we look at the past year
and share our exciting plans about the upcoming 2016 - 2017
Programming, Fundraising, and Centennial Celebrations. An official
“Thank You” to the outgoing Board and an introduction and
“Welcome” of the incoming Board.
Join Board Members Marcella Ruble and Tricia Grey for a Members’ Night Out! With
lite bites and drinks served throughout this very special evening, and a musical
performance by singing sensation, Lee Horwin!
Leonora (Lee) Horwin was a singing sensation on the New York Cabaret circuit of the
seventies. She appeared on the Johnny Carson Show after being discovered while
singing in a L.A. jazz club. Lee also starred and appeared on national television
specials throughout the United States, Canada and Germany.
She left show business to begin a nearly twenty year career in the healing arts.
Today Lee is an active philanthropist, lecturer, writer, editor and event producer and
director including an SRO production of the Vagina Monologues starring the
Los Angeles Derby Dolls.
And she still sings. Lee Horwin recently performed in New York alongside seasoned
Broadway performers for a benefit entitled No One Is Alone and served as assistant
director for the 25th anniversary celebration of the Broadway musical, Grand Hotel.
