INTRODUCTION

Geophysical surveys utilizing the magnetic and VLF-electromagnetic

methods, have been completed on three claim groups in Madoc and Huntingdon

Townships, Ontario which are controlled by Harrington Sound Resources Inc. The

groups are designated as the Jarvis Lake block, Banker Lake block and the

Southern block. The surveys were performed by Derry, Michener, Booth de Wahl

(DMBW) contract field technicians under the direct supervision of the author. The

surveys were conducted during the period January 31 to February 11, 1989.

The Madoc area contains numerous old fluorite and barite workings and

prospects which are associated with northwest trending fault structures. The

magnetic and VLF-electromagnetic surveys were completed in an attempt to

further define the known structures, where they are overburden covered along

strike, as well as detect possible knew structures having potential for fluorite

and/or barite mineralization. This report describes the logistics, parameters and

results of the geophysical surveys. The technical data statement is contained in

Appendix 1.

PROPERTY LOCATION. DESCRIPTION AND ACCESS

The Madoc area land holdings consist of three blocks of contiguous mining

claims in Madoc and Huntingdon townships in southeastern Ontario, about 125 km

east-northeast of Toronto (see Figure 1). The group consists of 20 unpatented

mining claims totalling about 380 hectares, as shown in Figure 2 and detailed in

Table 1.

Access to each portion of the group is excellent. Many of the claims are

crosscut by a highway or county road, while the remainder are within a short

walking distance.

The survey grid locations relative to the claims are shown on maps 89-33-

13, 14, and 15.

title and property description.

SURVEY PARAMETERS AND PRESENTATION

Magnetic Survey

A Scintrex MP-2 proton total field magnetometer was used for the survey.

Diurnal correction control was obtained by looping through pre-established base

stations at intervals that did not exceed one and one-half hours. Instrument

specifications are contained in Appendix 2. Readings were taken along grid lines

spaced 100 m apart at 12.5 m station intervals. In all, 39.2 line kilometres of data

were recorded in this way specifically; 24.3 km on the Jarvis Lake block, 5.1 km

on the Banker Lake block and 9.8 km on the Southern block.

The magnetic values recorded in the field were corrected for diurnal

variations using the appropriate time and diurnal change information. Preliminary

field maps were produced from the information.

Office compilation consisted of entry of the field values into a computer

system for editing and machine plotting and contouring. A regional datum value

of 57,000 nanotesla (nT) was subtracted from all readings. Posted value and

contour maps, at a scale of 1:5,000, were generated with appropriate title and

legend with a contour interval of 250 nT (see maps 89-33-01, 02, 05, 06, 09 and

10).

VLF-Electromagnetic Survey

The VLF electromagnetic survey utilized a Crone Radem VLF instrument

to measure the dip of the secondary field component produced by the primary

field from the VLF transmitter stations at Cutler, Maine (24.0 KHz) and

Annapolis, Maryland (21.4 KHz). Instrument specifications are contained in

Appendix 2. Readings were taken along grid lines spaced 100 m apart at 12.5 m

station intervals. In all, 39.2 line kilometres of dual VLF station data were

recorded on the three grid blocks.

The results were plotted in the field, for preliminary evaluation, in profile

form. Subsequently, office compilation consisted of entry of the data values on

the field maps into a computer system for machine plotting. The conductors

detected by the survey are indicated by positive to negative dip angles proceeding

in an easterly direction as shown on maps 89-33-03, 04, 07, 08, 11, and 12.

RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS

The area of the grids is cut by powerlines and fences which affect both

the magnetic and electromagnetic responses. In these zones magnetic and

electromagnetic readings were meaningless and are not included on the maps.

The southeast part of the Banker Lake grid is bounded by a fence made of bedrails

and a powerline runs along the north edge of the grid. On the Jarvis Lake grid, a

powerline and road runs through line 1,300 and 1,400 north. Similarly, a road and

powerline run through the center of the Southern grid and readings are affected

here. In the following discussion on the results of each grid no further mention of

theses cultural effects will be made as they are marked on the interpretive

compilation maps.

Banker Lake Grid (Map 89-33-13)

This small grid contains a major conductive response mainly detected by

the Annapolis, Maryland VLF station and striking north-south just west of the

baseline. It is peripheral to a magnetic complex to the east and may mark a

contact zone related to the underlying mafic volcanics. Lower amplitude and

more subtle conductive effects trend north northeast either side of the major

conductor. This direction matches more closely the direction of the fluorite

hosting fault complexes in the area and such conductors require geological

investigation. Two other isolated conductors were detected by the Cutler, Maine

VLF survey with no confirmation on the Annapolis readings. These and other

isolated and weak conductive effects may be related to local cultural effects such

as buildings and/or buried metal trash.

Jarvis Lake Grid (Map 89-33-14)

The major conductive feature on this grid is the high amplitude

conductive response trending north-south along the western portion of the grid. It

marks the approximate location of the contact between granite to the west and

limestone to the east. Some magnetic response probably related to the granite is

seen at the north and west side of the conductor. One other local but high

amplitude response occurs on the eastern side of the grid on line 700 north at 480

east. The best response was obtained by the Cutler, Maine station readings. In

this area there is a complex magnetic response which is probably related to the

mafic volcanics which are present here.

Numerous, weaker and intermittent conductors occur throughout the grid.

Those conductors that parallel the regional fluorite hosting north-northeast

striking fault direction warrant further first priority investigation.

Southern Grid (Map 89-33-15)

The only obvious conductive feature on this grid occurs at the extreme

northwest corner of the grid. Only weak questionable anomalies occur elsewhere.

No obvious response is present that could be attributed to the fault structure that

strikes north-northwest through the center of the property.

The only magnetic feature is a magnetic gradient increasing to the

southeast off the property which is detected in the extreme southeast corners of

the grid. This anomaly may reflect mafic volcanics covered by a thin veneer of

limestone or overburden.

RECOMMENDATIONS

There are numerous conductive responses on the Banker Lake and Jarvis

Lake grids that may reflect underlying north-northeast fault structures that could

host fluorite. Prospecting and mapping of these conductors on a first priority

basis is recommended. Investigation of the other conductors is also recommended

as a lower priority.
