Principal’s Message:
It has been great to see the enjoyment the children are getting out of
the bike track. It has been especially satisfying to see something that
started as a student idea, two years ago, become a reality. From there,
the students wrote a letter to the board and the process begun. A big
thank to everybody that has played a part in getting the bike track
completed. We do ask that students bring their own helmets to school
so they don’t have to share helmets with others. If children are going to
use the bike track after school and in weekends they need to be
supervised by somebody of the age of 16. It has been noticed in the
community that primary aged children have been riding around the
village after school without helmets. We ask that parents reinforced
wearing helmets at home too.Buses A couple of the buses are
approaching near capacity. Because of this there will be some changes
to buses runs next term. You will be notified if this affects you. It also
means if you want your children to go on a different bus then you need
to check with the bus drivers first as it may not be possible. Clubs A big
thank you to Helen Boyd and Melissa Farnell for running a club this year.
The children certainly both clubs. Melissa has been running the jewellery
club for the past 11 years. Collecting children Please if you collect your
child early from school can you come to the office to inform us. This
allows us to tick them off the bus lines at the end of the day.
Regards
Richard Kidd

Builder required
We would really like to build a tree hut in our new outdoor garden but would need a
registered builder to do so. If you know of anyone who has the time we would like to hear
from you.
If you are interested in your child playing touch. Contact Richard as we may be able to organise some
school teams.
Science- Room 1 and 4 Story written by Ben S
Today we did a science experiment, it was fun. First, we got a
cup. Afterwards we put the vinegar inside of it. I discovered
vinegar and baking soda can make a chemical reaction and can
make a balloon fill with air. Meanwhile we did another science
experiment. It was the same thing just with a glove. Besides
the glove it was the same. After a while we put 16 tea spoons
of baking soda in it and it didn’t make a difference.
Congratulations to Georgia who won the Southern
Zone speech finals for Year 5/6. Rebecca also cam e
third in the Year 7/8 finals. Georgia represented our
school at the Ashburton speech finals last week.

We have been in the process of re-branding our school values to incorporate the parent and student
feedback regarding student behaviours that are highly valued within our community. This allows our
values to be observable and measurable; a requirement for the success of PB4L school wide.
Honesty Enjoyment Achievement Respect Try our best
We are
trustworthy.
We are
confident and
positive.
We are
responsible,
independent
and creative.
We are polite,
kind and caring.
We are resilient,
and we
challenge
ourselves.
Our next step is to unpack what each value looks like in all settings outside the classroom at Mayfield
School and to develop a set of behaviour expectations for each location. The PB4L team are in the process
of creating the first draft of this behaviour plan and Room One are providing us with feedback.
We will be sharing the first draft of the school behaviour plan with you in the upcoming weeks so that you
too have the opportunity to provide us with any feedback.

Our Mission: The Mayfield School community will
work together to improve social and academic
outcomes, enabling our students to strive to their
full potential in a positive, supportive environment.
The PB4L school wide aims to provide a positive
school climate and to create a supportive environment
for personal, social, and academic growth for students
and staff. In other words, the school-wide plan is
essentially an instrument to enable the goals of the
school to be achieved, especially the goals of student
achievement.
