Phelps St. Youngstown, OH 44503 RE: Black Community Education Summit Dear Mayor Williams: Thank you for agreeing to Co-Convene this historic Black Community Education Summit. Your leadership on this particular issue is paramount to the success of the new State Plan for Youngstown City Schools and its impact on the Black African Descendant Student. This Summit is designed for the “collective” Black community to take the lead role in helping Black students achieve socially and academically. The Co-Conveners listed on the attached page have committed to the December 4, 2010 Summit. The Summit will be held at Youngstown State University in the Ohio Room at Kilcawley Center. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the p rogram will start promptly at 9 a.m. Only Co-Conveners will be permitted to participate; all will be notified in advance that this is a “no complaining, no lamenting, no grandstanding, ego-less” positive-actionable Summit. An outline of the Strategies of Solutions actionable agenda is being prepared and will be ready for the Summit. Enclosed is a copy of the new State Plan for Youngstown City Schools, and a copy of Youngstown City Schools 2010 Report Card. A copy of the new State Teachers’ Contract will be forwarded as soon as it has been ratified by the Academic Distress Commission and the State Attorney General.
