be able to work in and for STC, Pollachi. It is a see-to-believe autonomous Institution dedicated to the cause of providing students in a rural setting, with very valuable learning experiences to set them rightly and firmly on their life and career paths. STC offers several general higher education programmes both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including some tuned towards professional careers. Also STC has got the coveted “A” grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council of the Government of India.

So, what are the expected outcomes of my work in and for STC? These can be classified according to the relevant objectives pertaining to different stakeholders, viz., students, faculty and staff members, the academic and administrative leadership team, parents of students, alumni, networked institutions and organizations, and the community-at-large of this fine Institution. The perspectives and worldview of rural students require expansion, their skills in dealing with themselves and others need to be horned, and various important components of their professional character including communication effectiveness, initiative, confidence, general knowledge, intellectual outlook, sense of duty, responsibility and accountability, must be developed and strengthened. Students would do better if they learn to practice and value formal and informal peer learning, an uncommon mode of learning in most of our Institutions, including some of the finest in the country.

Faculty benefit from regular professional development programmes, and get inspired by creative intellectual pursuits – towards programme and curricula development, design and implementation of novel teaching learning processes, capacity building in academic research and working on research projects, fine tuning of networking and consulting skills – that are meant to enhance the quality and excellence of their work.

The academic and administrative leadership of the Institution is very strong and progressive. The vision to grow the status of the Institution to that of a University requires efforts on all fronts, viz., academic,

His academic interests and expertise include Systems Thinking, Decision Analysis, Data Analysis, Project Management, Knowledge Management, Technology Management, Creativity and Innovation, Institutional Planning and Development, Institutional Leadership and Management.

Some of his students have won “Best Paper” commendations from the Editorial Boards of reputed International Journals, and awards in International and National Conferences. Dr LSG loves teaching, meditation, philosophy, music, and dreaming. He is committed to the cause of education that will enable students to discover their calling and the source of inner peace, fulfillment and joy through their work and struggles.

It is quite an inspiring, professionally and personally fulfilling experience to

financial, technological, organizational, and relationship networks. These efforts require specific support and diligent guidance, particularly to consolidate the adaptability of the Institution to a dynamic educational environment.

Many parents of the current students do not have formal educational experiences, but are full of aspirations concerning their children. Creating, strengthening and sustaining strong bonds between the parents and the Institution, through the leadership as well as the teachers and staff, is a major unavoidable challenge. Outreach programmes for parents are now a sine qua non. Additionally, STC’s noble intentions and calibrated interventions could be a useful input to bridge the prevailing generation gaps between uneducated (formally only) parents and their children undergoing higher education.

STC’s alumni are quite a proud lot consisting of several thousand individuals pursuing lucrative and exciting careers ranging from the corporate world through government to the harsh ground realities of rural development work. Very novel, valuable programmes and events should be launched to enable the mutually beneficial relationships that exist between the alumni and their alma mater to grow from strength to strength.

In order to stamp STC’s work and contributions among all the networked Institutions and organizations, and even the community at large, and to make STC the benchmark Institution on this count, several innovative initiatives are required. The task of transforming STC into a center for vision, knowledge and action to exemplify constructive and consistent efforts for realizing the Millennium Development Goals locally call for progressive, prudent, persistent and passionate approaches.

All of these necessitate massive, integrated, collective efforts that will be marked by the spirit of synergy. Well, I feel blessed to be one small, but not insignificant part, of the whole, and am itching to pitch in. Glory be unto you, STC!

Welcome to STC

Dr. V. VenkateswaranPrincipal

The horizons of higher education is expanding ever. Higher Education, especially in the context of knowledge economy is more relevant in preparing the human resource potentials of the nation for greater contribution towards national development. On the one hand opportunities for higher education and avenues of employment are growing for the professionally qualified youth. On the other hand the challenges are also big and tough enough to frustrate the youth in the path of progress. The gap between the expectations of the employers of industry and the skill set of the graduates and post graduates who pass out from the portals of higher education is widening. The higher education institutions play a critical role in bridging this gap by efficient design and delivery of the curricular programmes, creating state-of-the art infrastructure and learning resources and involving qualified and talented faculty providing support-services which facilitate the process of teaching – learning that promote career opportunities of the students. STC, as reflected in its mission statement, is wedded to quality and efficient service to student community in pursuit of knowledge, values and growth. The learning resources including library books, computer lab, internet connectivity etc., available in the campus are excellent and more than enough. The learning environment is empathetic, affable and enabling whereby the students have the opportunity to get their hidden potentials manifested into mature capabilities. Projects, Industry visits, seminars and guest lectures by eminent academic and business leaders make the real-time learning experience exhilarating. Well equipped separate hostels for men and women make the campus life convenient and students friendly. At STC students are trained by an exclusive wing called Centre for Training and Placement to make a systematic effort in honing the skills of students and in preparing them to face interviews for placement. Above all, the culture of rural background and the technology of modern world are mixed judiciously at STC to create conducive academic atmosphere, nice ambiance for effective, pleasant and better learning and for transforming students into better citizens.”
