MS BuSineSS in finance:Finance students will gain extensive training and skills in financial decision making in the areas of cor-porate financial management, investment banking and international finance. In order to succeed in this program, students should be inclined towards learning mathematics, statistics and accounting.

MS BuSineSS in GloBal MarketinG ManaGeMent:This specialization offers an opportunity to concentrate in marketing management as well as in Interna-tional Business. This program is well suited for those who wish to pursue career in global market place. In order to succeed, students should be inclined towards improving interpersonal communication, pre-sentation skills, creativity & empathy, analytics.

MS in inforMation SySteMS (*SteM ProGraM):This specialization prepares students for positions in information technology management. While the management oriented students can focus on planning, organizing, managing, designing, configuring and implementing of information systems, technically oriented students can focuses on the design and development of information systems to solve real-world problems. In order to be successful, you have to be inclined towards appreciating technology.

MS in DeciSion analyticS (*SteM ProGraM):This specialization focusses on quantitative methods & application of quantitative methods to decision making process. Students can further choose an application domain of their interest, depending upon individual student interests and adviser approval, by choosing relevant elective courses. In order to be successful, you have to be inclined towards learning statistics and using statical software packages.

* Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM, previously SMET) is an acronym that refers to the academic dis-ciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. According to the US Department of Commerce, the growth of STEM-related jobs over the last 10 years was three times that of non-STEM fields. At present, the OPT for international students who finish either an undergraduate or graduate program from a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) certified educational institution in the US is either 12 months for non-STEM related programs or 29 months for STEM related programs.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is moving forward with proposals to expand the work authorization period for international students on F1 visas once they graduate, known technically as OPT (Optional Practical Training), and make it the same as for H-1B visa workers: a total of six years.

ON CAMPUS JOBS:Students may apply up to work for 20 hours per week on campus while studying. This is optional to students and subject to availability of positions for work on campus.during the first semester in VCU, International students are generally encouraged to focus on studies and not take up on-campus job as transition into new education system could be challenging. however, students may opt to work on campus during the second semester. The very top students with excellent academic record and superior communication skills are usually invited to apply for a limited number of Graduate Assitanceship positions. others may have to consider non-academic positions.

OPT (OPTIONAL PRACTICAL TRAINING):Students who have completed a degree in the US and who have been lawfully enrolled on a full-time basis for at least one academic year are eligible to apply for oPT, an internship opportunity for international students.while Finance & Global Marketing Management students may do oPT for up-to 12 months, the Information Systems and decision Analytics (which is a STeM program) students may do oPT for up-to 29 months. while VCU career center provides information on oPT, finding oPT opportunities is students’ responsibility.

Housing & Accomodation It is compulsory for students to stay in hostels on VCU campus. VCU offers excellent on campus student housing (hostel) facilities. Students can choose either a single room or a double sharing room. each hostel unit comprises either two or four rooms (single or sharing), a living room with furniture and fully equipped kitchenette. Though TV is not provided in the units, students may purchase their own TV on arrival.

Students will live in new and exciting living and learning community with international and domestic students. These on-campus apartments include 24-hour security, free wi-fi, air conditioning, and the opportunity to interact with students with a wide range of cultural backgrounds.

There are several cafeterias, including one buffet-style cafeteria, as well as many restaurants and convenience stores on campus. Most of them accept RamBucks. nearby, students can access the gym, library, and sports activities and museums for free. Grocery stores, bookstores and a variety of other business on and near campus bring convenience to student life at VCU.

Students from India have access to nearby grocery stores where they can buy groceries and vegetables needed for Indian cuisines and have their homely food.

LibraryThe newly renovated Cabell library provides VCU’s students, faculty, and staff with space to study, collaborate, discover, create, and conduct research. Students can take advantage of traditional library services (borrow books, use computers, etc.) as well as make use of innovative resources such as a 3-d printing lab, various classes and workshops, and designated spaces for both quiet study, and engaged collaboration.

Gym & Recreational SportsStudents will have access to two gym facilities - the Cary Street Gym, just a few blocks away on the Academic Campus and the larrick Student Center, about a mile away on the downtown VCU health System Campus. The Cary Street Gym offers numerous features, including an indoor heated pool, hot tub, rock climbing wall, basketball courts (as well as volleyball, table tennis, racquetball, and badminton courts), indoor running track, group exercise classes, and an 18,000 square foot fitness center full of cardio and free weight equipment.

VCU offers two on-campus recreation facil-ities. The  Cary Street Gym  was named one of 2012’s national Intramural and Recreational Sports Association’s outstanding sports facilities. It includes an 18,000-square-foot fitness center, two indoor pools, a 38-foot rock-climbing wall and much more.The  MCV Campus Recreation and Aquatic Center provides space for basketball, volleyball, racquetball and other sports. A 25-meter, six-lane pool is available for lap swimming, water basketball and volleyball. VCU fields teams in 17 nCAA sports as proud members of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

VCU Dining Services offers block plans that allow a specific number of meals to be used over an entire semester. These unlimited-serving meals are served in the Shafer Court dining Center and the Jonah l. larrick Student Center.dining dollars allow students the opportu-nity to purchase tax-free meals at any VCU retail restaurant, including einstein Bros. Bagels, IhoP, Chili’s and Starbucks Coffee.Because of VCU’s convenient location, the university is surrounded by a wide array of places to eat. Students don’t have to go far to find exquisite fine dining, quaint cafes or casual eateries. 

Health & WellnessStudying in a foreign country is exciting but can also be a stressful experience. VCU Counselling Services provides a variety of services related to emotional and mental well-being, and teaches learn-ing skills to facilitate VCU students’ academic and personal goals.

University Student Health Services is conveniently located on both the Monroe Park and VCU Medical Center campuses. University Student health Services provides quality outpatient medical care and public health services, which includes health education programming that empowers students to become full participants in their health care. The wellness Resource Center offers VCU students an array of services and resources for a healthier lifestyle.

Safety on CampusThanks to the VCU Police department and the University’s extensive emergency information systems emergency information systems, the VCU community is accustomed to feeling safe, informed, and pre-pared. VCU Police patrolling campus and the surrounding areas on bikes, in cars and on foot provide 24-hour protection. You can access them immediately by using one of the 350 easily identifiable yellow emergency telephones located throughout campus. emergency phones also connect students VCU’s Ram-Safe, which provides escorts if you are heading home from a late-night class or meeting. In addition to regular patrols, VCU Police also offers services such as bike and laptop registration, alert text and email messaging, residential hall security, campus cameras and more.

Insurance RequirementsBefore going to VCU, all Christ University students must subscribe to a health insurance plan with min-imum $250,000 in medical benefits to cover medical emergencies during second year in VCU.Both Christ University and VCU will facilitate the process.
