Scope and Purpose

The MC-20 fastener attaching machine is one of the most versatile machines produced by Micron. The easy to use control panel with the accompanying foot pedal allows users to quickly set up and make installations. Powerful enough to install large curtain grommets into various materials, while having superb accuracy thanks to the laser light installed. This machine can drastically increase the production of any workroom or production line that it is placed in.

This manual is intended to be used during the initial setup of the MC-20, making the first installations and to help troubleshoot problems you may face over the life of the machine. Topics like constructing the table, changing dies and safety will be covered in an easily digestible format for non-technical operators. Maintenance, repairs and replacing components will be covered in a more technical manner but in great detail.

Setup Process Overview

During the initial setup of the MC-20, the machine’s table will have to be assembled. Then the machine will have to be mounted and bolted onto the table. Once the MC-20 and its’ table are properly assembled, the dies will need to be installed. The approach to installing the dies will vary slightly depending on the size and style of the fastener. You will need to have a compressor ready to connect to the MC-20 with the hose that is provided. Next plug the electrical cable into both the outlet and the machine. Ensure that the machine has been switched on and the emergency stop button has not been depressed. Once these steps are followed, the MC-20 will be ready for production.

1. Assemble the table and bolt the MC-20 to it.2. Install the dies.3. Connect the air hose, electrical cable and foot pedal.4. Ensure the machine is on and the emergency stop button has not been depressed.5. Begin installing fasteners.

MC-20User Manual / Air Pressure Setting

24/37

Air Pressure Power and Setting

Powerful: The Micron MC-20 Single Cylinder is also a very powerful machine. The MC -20 has two ways to adjust its piston pressure. The air intake pressure control valve will adjust the piston pressure from 0-150 PSI (0-10 bar). Stroke up/down keys on the digital display will adjust the piston stroke from 0-150. The MC-20 is capable of applying up to 450 kg of pressure per square centimeter.

Powerful: The Micron MC-20 Double Cylinder has the extra power for the most demanding fastener attachment jobs. The MC -20 has two ways to adjust its piston pressure. The air intake pressure control valve will adjust the piston pressure from 0-150 PSI (0-10 bar). Stroke up/down keys on the digital panel will adjust the pistonstroke from 0-150. The MC-20 is capable of applying up to 950 kg of pressure persquare centimeter.

PISTON PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT: MC-20 Double Pneumatic Machine has two pistons while single one has one piston. Piston pressure determines the amount of the force applied by the dies while attaching the grommets or other fasteners on to the material. It is important to determine the proper amount of piston pressure required for the job at hand. Too much pressure will damage the grommets, and not enough pressure will fail to cut a hole in to the material and/or will fail to set the grommet at the same time.

STROKE SETTING: Adjusting the stroke setting is very easy on the MC-20. The

stroke setting is displayed by the bottom digits on the digital display screen of the MC-20. The stroke setting is adjusted by the stroke up and stroke down keys to theright hand side of the digits showing the stroke setting in the digital display. Thestroke up key is used to increase the stroke setting. The stroke down key is used todecrease the stroke setting.

Page 25: MC-20 Fastening Attaching Machine - Grommet · plug the electrical cable into both the outlet and the machine. Ensure that the machine has been switched on and the emergency stop

MC-20User Manual / Air Pressure Setting

25/37

TWO WAYS TO SET PISTON PRESSURE: The machine has two ways to set the piston pressure. They are stroke setting and air pressure setting.

AIR PRESSURE SETTING: In the back of the MC-20 on the right hand side you will find the air pressure gage. The red numbers from 2 through 10 indicate the “BAR” reading. The blue numbers from 0 through 150 indicate the “PSI” reading.

The lager blue knob on top of the air pressure gage is used to adjust the air pressure. It is very important to follow these simple directions to prevent damage to the air pressure knob while adjusting the air pressure of the MC-20.

1. Lift the knob up

2. Turn the knob clockwise to increase the air pressure

3. Turn the knob counterclockwise to lower the air pressure

4. When desired air pressure is achieved, press the knob down to lock thepressure setting

CAUTION: IF YOU DO NOT LIFT THE KNOB UP BEFORE YOU TURN IT TO SET THE AIR PRESSURE, YOU MAY DAMAGE THE KNOB AND CAUSE AN AIR LEAK. IF YOU DO NOT PRESS THE KNOB DOWN AFTER SETTING THE DESIRED AIR PRESSURE, YOU WILL FAIL TO LOCK THE SETTING IN PLACE.

FINDING THE PROPER PISTON PRESSURE SETTINGS: IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO EXPERIMENT ON SMALL PIECES OF TEST MATERIAL TO FIND THE PROPER PISTON PRESSURE SETTINGS BEFORE STARTING ON A NEW JOB.
